Need some help with changing front brake pads on my 06 Ully. My buddy knows his way around bikes but never on the Buell brake set up. Thanks | ||

From the SM REMOVE 1. Loosen pin hanger under pin hanger plug (do not remove) Note: my '06 only had the pin hanger.. never had the plug 2. Rotate wheel so the caliper is centered between rotor mounting fastners 3. Remove Lower caliper mounting faster 4. Loosen (do not remove) upper caliper 5. Remove Pin hanger 6. Rotate caliper counterclockwise to allow access to outer pad 7. Remove Outer pad from right 8. Remove inner pad by pulling rearward and rotating pad 90 regress and pulling through wheel opening INSTALL 1. Remove front master cylindar reservoir cover 2. Carefully Push piston back in Note: good idea to clean them prior to pushing them back in, but you should probably take the caliper off to do so. 3. Install new inner pad 4. Install new outer pad 5. Install pin under ping hanger plug. make sure it engages both pads and spring clip 6. Rotate caliper clockwise to align mounting holes 7. Install lower caliper fastners 8. Apply Loctite 272 and tighten both calipers fasteners 35-37 ft-lbs 9. Note: good idea to clean them prior to pushing them back in, but you should probably take the caliper off to do so. My only comment is that it is MANDATORY that you clean them- use an old T-shirt or similar and polish the pistons until all the old brake dust is gone and the pistons are shiny. THEN push them back into the caliper. Otherwise, you will have problems like the brakes coming on by themselves and locking up. DAMHIK. | ||

I just did this on my Firebolt the other day. Previously, I'd always had the front wheel off when I changed them, and have to admit a healthy dose of skepticism about getting the pads off and on without being able to remove the caliper completely - but it worked, quickly and smoothly. |
