Got the hots for a Ulysses. Couple of questions: does the low fuel indication still "count up"? Is there a power port in the rear of the XB12XT like there appears to be on the XB12X? Or was that only the 2007 X? Except for the hard bags are there things about either version that you wish the other had or didn't have? Also, how's the fan noise? |

I have an XT with 1700 miles running with synthetic oil (no comments please), and the fan rarely comes on when riding. And the few times it has come on when riding, I barely notice it after the first few minutes, so I really don't get all the stink about fan noise on this board. But it always does come on after you shut down the engine after any ride more than 5 minutes. Kind of sounds like the wife's hair dryer... (Message edited by Djm on July 19, 2008) |

I got an 08 XT,the thing is awesome! handles like a dream. Use mine for the road 90percent, but it DOES like 2 tracks. Fan Noise? What fan noise? You'll Love it. |

Yes, the reserve indicator works the same as every other XB platform bike. Yes, there is a power point under the seat. The 'upper body' of the pair are practically identical. The major difference is the suspension and wheels - the X has more travel, a higher stance, and stronger wheels. The XT is a road bike through and through. My fan runs pretty consistently, still. I'm only at about 1800 miles and the engine is still breaking in, IMO. I have not switched to synthetic yet, I'm planning that at the 5K service. I imagine, just like with my XB9R, that the engine will cool off more as it finishes breaking in and I switch to synth. Regardless, the fan is no louder than any other XB. It really seems to bother some people, but honestly I could care less. I'd rather listen to the fan than cook my oil. |

this fan issue always comes up and i just don't get it. i personally like the fan. it does its job and gives me an opportunity to turn others on to the other fine points of buell manufacturing when they come over to ask what that noise is. after explaining what it is most people say thats a good idea i wish mine had that. |

Me: "WHAT!" Them: "The noise, what is that?" Me: "WHAT!" Them: "THE NOISE, THE NOISE, WHAT IS THE NOISE?" Me: "OHHHH ... IT'S MY FAN!" Them: "WHAT?" . |

Ugh, speaking of fans...I love my Uly X but my girlfriend and I got stuck in "parade duty" upon our arrival to the Rush concert at Nissan Pavilion way outside Washington, DC, in VA - 40 minutes of stopping and creeping in 95-degree, humid weather to the parking lots. The fan was blowing searing air up at us so much so that she had to get off and walk. She eventually got back on, but took off her armored jacket (something we NEVER do when riding, even in traffic). I then did something I rarely do, and roared up a yellow-lined center lane and cut back into the lineup about a half-mile up. The dude in the minivan and his young daughter behind us honked at us over the next 10 minutes, trying to get me to notice them flipping us off. Sorry dude - I didn't want my bike (or my girl) to overheat - I was ready to throw down if needed. No skip-spark, but there was some major pinging during one hard acceleration - I hated to hear that from the poor engine. Anyway, we made it, and the parking lot attendant pointed us through a shortcut to the special bike parking area RIGHT at the front gate (spot the Uly). The Uly attacted far more attention than any of the choppers, Hogs, and baggers. Nice - and we were also among the first out of the lot after the show, finally able to cool ourselves off with 75 mph wind on I-66 east.

The fan can get a bit annoying at times, but it does run less and less as the miles add up. I try not to let it bother me, but if there was a quieter aftermarket fan out there, I would buy it. Hooper...is the pinging you had a common problem or a one time thing? Sorry, I am not trying to steal the tread; I posted this question in the troubleshooting section, but wanted to see if you can give me any insight. This has been a frequent problem for me. |

Yo Tocramed...the pinging I experienced yesterday was basically the first time it had ever happened. It was so freaking hot out, and I had been idling and creeping along for so long, that when I finally got a chance to gun it for about 75 yards, the engine made a sound like there were ball bearings beating around in the cylinder and I didn't have the usual Uly power - it was serious. Luckily, I'd read about it on this site so I knew what it was. On other VERY hot days, I've heard very slight pinging upon hard acceleration, but with no performance degradation and nothing that rivaled yesterday. The heat yesterday was serious - I've read threads on the 1125r page (LOVE the look of that bike) about the fuel boiling out of the tank and escaping through a tube. That didn't happen, but the frame was searing and the air coming up from the engine was astonishingly hot...my girl had to jump off and walk for a bit. Me? I accepted it as a way to lose water weight (I'm ATGATT). I must have chugged two pints of water once we stopped at the show. Also, in your profile you said you have rear axle sliders - I'd humbly recommend that you get the front sliders too, if you haven't already. My Uly did all kinds of crash acrobatics after it "tripped" over a 6-point buck. The rear axles were untouched because I had the luggage on. The left front fork was scraped a bit (nothing serious, but it doesn't look good) - that would have been prevented with the slider (which I hadn't yet purchased). I picked up some DarkHorseMoto sliders since then. (Message edited by hooper on July 20, 2008) (Message edited by hooper on July 20, 2008) |

Thanks Hooper. I do plan on getting the front sliders soon. One of those things that is on my list. My rears are from DarkHorseMoto, fronts will be too. |
