I've got the 06' with the limiting steering lock and yet I'm able to do the MSF BRC U-turn box without any trouble. I only mention this because I taught an Experienced Rider Course today on Offutt AFB and most of the guys in the class brought their crotch rockets and only one of them was able to negotiate the BRC U-turn box which is much tighter than the ERC box. I'd rather have those 08' triple clamps but hate to shiite-can perfectly serviceable parts and really haven't seen a huge need to change them. The ULY rules. Anybody else try their ULY in the BRC u-turn box? You have to lock it out to make it. I telling the guys that the Buell was by far the best bike I've ever owned and I've owned and own quite a few.

I managed to do the 24' box on my 06, but crossed the line every time on the 20'. I think the height of the Uly still intimidates me a bit in tight maneuvers like that, though logically I know it makes no difference...

My Uly ('06) loves to have my ass off the seat, inside bar shoved down towards the ground, and me in an opposite hang-off position (me upright, bike pretty much table-topped under me).

Of course, I battletrax my FLHP too....

Ok, help me understand here...are you saying that you have to do a u-turn within a 20 foot square?

Is that really an issue? I can do that on my RoadKing and when I first got the 08 Uly, I went to a local parking lot to practice, and was doing u turns within a standard 12 foot lane. Hell, I could do a circle 8 within 24 feet. And I'm not bragging because I'm not that great a rider, but is this really an issue?

Actually, it's a figure 8 in a 20' box, and yeah, it's a big deal for many people. But hey, when you're good, you're GOOD, right?

Just for grins, hop on an 06 Uly and try a 12 foot lane. Maybe post the video of how easy it is. We can all use some new riding techniques.

please don't misunderstand my comments, I wasn't bragging, it's just that I didn't know what the standards were. A circle eight in a 20 foot box, now that's two connected u turns each within ten feet. That's tougher, and what I said I could do apparently just gets me past the test on the Uly! I don't think I could do an 8 on the RK, now I have to go try!

A Road King will do the 20' box practically on its own. Idle speed with the steering flopped to the stops, the RK turns in 20' easily. The only challenge is getting the steering to flop from left to right quickly enough. Not all bikes will make the maneuver this easily.

California- the 08's will turn MUCH tighter than the 06's or 07's (or for that matter the 08XT's).

I am an MSF instructor, and have no issue doing the 20' box on the Ulysses. You just have to SLIP the clutch while you counterweight and use a lot of rear brake.

It can be done.

ERC box is a piece of cake.

It just takes practice. I'm able to do left hand circles better than right handers.

I can't hit the steering lock in any riding situation.

The ONLY time I ever hit the steering lock is pushing the bike around.

I'd bet dollars to donuts that not a single magazine writer hit the steering lock actually riding the bike. They assumed that if you hit it pushing it on and off the truck that it must be bad.

I know of a couple of folks that were shopping for a large dual sport back in '06 and did not consider a Uly STRICTLY because of the turn radius issue. I have found that the only time it is an issue is when pushing it out of the garage. The bike is so light that it's no problem for me, even then. Never an issue after letting the clutch out in gear.

The tight steering lock was a concern when I was in the market for the Uly. Then I rode it.

What problem with the steering lock?

What heat issues?

What front end dive issues?

What brake issues?

The steering might concern a noob - I haven't noticed ANY of them.

I hit the steering lock turning into parking spaces. It doesn't bother me though. I don't need it to turn any sharper.

My biggest problem in u-turns is jamming my elbow into my side because the handlebars are so wide. I actually find it a little easier on my GSX-R, though I've never measured to see which one actually turns tighter.

I want some of whatever Danger_dave is taking to make him not notice the (lack of) steering lock and heat issues.

Apparently, I am a 22 year experienced, enduro racing, "noob", because I would love some more steering sweep, even if I would only use it occasionally.

Maybe when I finally learn how to ride all my bikes the Uly will become perfect.
Or maybe I will only ride my Uly in a straight line in wide open lands with temps always below 80F...
