Just some frustrations as a white boy growing up here. Many of them were and are shared with some of my Latin friends.

I guess my point in brief, was that I don't see how forming groups based on race, is really a good thing. Not looking to join the klan either and haven't left Miami because I am pretty sure that I would miss the diversity.

But I get tired of Presidential candidates pandering to groups and The Miami Exile community is one of the largest that they HAVE to pander to and I am close to it so I notice it in the news.

And no I wouldn't go in and start a fight on purpose, there would be no discussion even if I was born in Cuba, it isn't really a free speech zone at Versailles, it is a place for talking points.

Anyway, it's an opinion and much of it is built on my experience growing up here and in part the whole, "how can you live in Miami and not speak Spanish?" attitude that many people carry.

Sometimes I just go off a little because the web is often my only writing outlet right now and I tend to free write to an extent. Can only edit so much on the fly.

I know it isn't an island paradise for the average person over there though, I was never supporting that point of view.

Say hi if we meet again, or at least give me a heads up before you swing

+1 Brother!

After spending 15 years in the US Army we moved to Miami. The wife was offered an employment opportunity that we just could not refuse. I left the Army so we could come here. How bad could it be? We both lived in Spain as kids... That was 10 years ago. What a freaking culture shock. This is the most rude and inconsiderate place I have ever been. I know that idiots are everywhere, but there just seems to be way more here. I'm not saying they are Cuban's or even Latino, but I am saying they are here.

At lease once a month someone I know and have a responsibility to train gets their US citizenship, and I have to ask them "Does that mean you're going to start speaking English now?"

I spent a few years growing up in Spain as a Navy brat. As Very nice people and culture. Beautiful language as well (true Castilian). It is nothing like what I hear every day now.

Miamiuly, Treadmarks,

+1 on your last posts.

I met both of you on the same day at Fuddruckers and both of you were friendly and informative.

I've ridden all over the US and Canada and I can feel the tension/hostility when I get past West Palm on my way back home.

If we ever run into each other we can share some insights over a beer.

Cccpull said "I wasn't name calling, asking you if you're a member of the communist party would give me a better idea of why you have your views, which are limited to your vacations in Cuba and maybe some reading.
If you did not live it, you are not qualified to make such statements.
You can definitely have you opinions on the subject, but not state them as fact."

So you who lived through the revolution that happened 50 years ago is more qualified to say you know the facts. Than someone who goes there every year. That isn't even believable. Think of the changes that have occured in the last 50 years. Look at America and tell me it hasn't changed. Do you think Cuba has stood still because the US government has attempted to do just that. No it hasn't, no country does. You should make a trip to Cuba and see for yourself. Oh yah I almost forgot you aren't permitted to go there are you. Hmmmm who is really free after all? Admit things may not be as they were 50 years ago and quit lapping up all that government bull and thinking it's good for you. Use more than the doctrine they feed you on and do some real thinking.

But back to my original question. Give me one reason the embargo still needs to be kept in place. Don't do the communist trick either. China is the USAs biggest trading partner or the second biggest. You also trade with Vietnam talking about change, and oh I forgot they are "communist too".

Give this some serious thought and look at it objectively and listen to what others are experiencing and what others may know about Cuba 2008. The USA has no valid reason to fear a country like Cuba. What could they possibly do that scares the US so much. They have no power militarily, economically or politically. I just don't see it and if you look hard and honestly at this you will see it is unfounded and totally not required. Your attitude towards Cuba is like your present beliefs, about 50 years behind the times. You are an intelligent person who is limited because of 50 year old attitudes, beliefs, habits and expectations. Give it the benefit of the doubt.

Thunderbox,

Your resume on Cuba is to have visited on vacation.

How many times have you been to Cuba and how long was your stay?

I can only claim to be Cuban, have lived in Cuba, presently have family in Cuba, have Cuban friends and neighbors(both young and old born in Cuba).

You must be
the authority on the subject.

The more you try to make your argument, the more obvious it becomes.

Good luck to you.

MiamiUly,

Yes, that was me. I think you might have given me the card, not sure. I know both Peterson stores, the parts manager in the south store is an old friend.
In fact you were either ordering or picking up parts and I was going to lunch with him when I saw you there.

Remember when this forum was about owning and riding Uly's, and not debating Latin American politics and culture?
Just wondering...

Sorry to have stepped on your toes there. You don't have to be a drug addict to know about drugs, You don't have to be a cancer victem to understand it ain't good, and you don't have to stick your face in bull to know what it smells like either.

I'm out anyway discussion is stalled so it's time to take a rest on my part. I do enjoy it though. There used to be some doozy discussions on site at one time. Specially when it came to he war discussions and 911. Had a hoot.
