Maximum,

Thanks for the photos and trip report. I was wondering if anyone is going to have an opportunity to ask about a few of the nagging bike problems like bearings and electrical issues.

Ride safe,

Mark

The bearing issue was covered in one of the tech seminars. I was not there, but Crusty said that they said there has been a problem with the seals on the bearings, and they have been working on a solution. The new and improved bearings are to be the standard here shortly, and will supersede the old part number. Crusty or someone that attended that seminar might want to elaborate on this subject.

Although I'm sure I already know the answer, I'll ask anyway... Were there any hints or innuendo about what may be coming for '09?

Comment on the bearing was that many of the failed bearings examined had damaged seals and experienced water incursion. I think this failure may have been the most common but not necessarily the root cause of all failures. There was a comment related to the potential of the bearing seal being damaged when working with the wheel such as during tire changes.

There was mention of an improved bearing being imminent or probably by the end of the month at the outside.

So my read is that some of the bearing problems will be helped with this new bearing and that it will be out pretty soon. I know how things work in big companies and so I am thinking more of a month at the earliest but I hope I am wrong.

But this was pretty good news IMO.

Anything about the voltage regulator or the #77 connector?

I'd be more interested on what, if anything, we might expect from charging systems grenading.

For those that don't know it yet, Maximum's son had a mishap on the pre-race parade lap at Road America.
Rumor/speculation at Road America was that he suffered some type of shoulder injury. Bike may have flipped when he hit the sand zone when he missed a turn.
I'll let Maximum give the whole story.

Hopefully his son has just some minor injuries that will heal quickly.

I hope Sean is OK! If he got to tour the RA hospital we will have stories to swap!

Our best to Sean. I read somewhere about someone having his Blast on their truck for the ride home. Please keep us posted on how he's doing.

His kid was back at the hotel later that day sporting a sling on his right arm, looking a little down (understandable!), but otherwise unscathed. Really glad to see him mobile.

...that Blast, on the other hand. >.< It was a little wadded up. Beautiful bike, too.

Just got word from Fskinner that the Blast is back home in CO, and will be delivered to its own garage shortly. From what I heard at the event, Sean was flying home and seemed to check out OK overall aside from the busted wing. Hope I heard correctly : )

I'd like to hear about the whole thing from Maximum. I saw the bike ( bad twisted condition ) and immediately knew who owned it and got a sick feeling in my gut. Our fears were quickly eased when we heard he had gotten up and walked after the crash. Hopefully he quickly heals and his mother doesn't put a kabosh on his love of motorcycles.
My son rode his bike to last and this year's Buell homecomings and in between (last Sept 15) he broke his leg (femur)in a Harley Sportster crash. Shiite happens and then we get on with life. I'm sure it will be the same with MiniMax.

unfortunately it not if it's when. my daughter was rear ended and my son went down when he hit the brake in a puddle on the road a couple years ago. you just got to hope that they walk away from it, learn from it and get back on the horse.

and the helmets off to f_skinner for being there again to help a brother out. definitely good people. hope to see you at mbVI frank.

That's why we wear the gear. Eventually, we'll all meet the asphalt.

It's happened to me a few times. Maybe I'm all finished with crashing now. : )

Why, Chad...are you done with riding? lol. I know two things - I'm an agressive rider, and gravity always works. Other than that...I wear my gear and hope for the best : )

I just hope he heals well and learns from his mistake. The bike is just stuff. It's the
people that matter.
