The XT is built on the same chassis as the X. It's got the bigger frame/tank for instance.

"More importantly, the XB12XT is built off the XB12SS chassis...."

Um...technically, that is an accurate statement. Have we forgotten there are really only 2 XB chassis? 52" and 54"? The rest is all farkles and ergos when you really get down to it....

Look at the taillight bridge on an SS or STT, then on an X or XT. Look at how they attach to the side rails. Same rails, different bolt holes (castings are all there) are used for the different bridges. Trust me, I've got an STT and an XT right next to each other on the floor and have been considering putting the XT bridge, seat, taillight and peg mounts on the STT to have a "smaller bagger" Buell.... Both are 4.4 gallon frames. Wiring harness is X specific (power outlets).

HOWEVER.

The XT has its own specific springs, spring rates, and valving setups in the suspension.

The X is the most comfortable motorcycle I've ever ridden.

What is the turning radius of the XT -vs- the X -vs- the SS?
What are the front forks, front fenders like on the XT -vs- the X -vs- the SS?
What wheels does the XT most resemble, the X or the SS?
What tires on those wheels?

My point is the XT is more built off the SS platform, (frame similarities not withstanding) making its chassis (the sum of its parts) most like the SS more than the X. IMHO the ride, sans bags and a passenger, is more like the SS than the X.

But we are sweating details here. Sorry.

Yeah - there are a few others as good for me too.

BMW megamoto, Rune, Softail Custom. Tiger with optional tall seat all get 10/10

I think it would clear things up to note that the 06 and 07 frames for the SS and X are identical. In 08 the X got a new front end to allow a better turning radius and stiffer forks. The XT uses the 06/07 frame, which is shared by the SS.

My 09 prediction is the SS and XT will move to the 08 X frame.

Is it the frame that changed or is it just new triple trees that increase the 08 Uly's rake and turning radius?

If Buell actually changed the frame itself for just one specific model I'll be pleasantly surprised. : )

No frame change but both the triple clamps and lower fork legs were changed to decrease the Uly's turning radius. No change in rake or trail either.

My Ulysses is orange, therefore it sees more adventure than yours. From Moab to snow capped mountains.

Of course the TT that joined me gets around too.
