Does anyone else wear ear plugs when riding longer distances at highway speed???? OR does anyone have any suggestions for helmets with less wind noise at higher speeds. Cheers-pete | ||

I wear them 90% of the time, just forget once in awhile. I had some custom ones made at the bike show this winter and really prefer them to the foam ones, always had trouble getting those ones in. | ||

I wear ear plugs 80% of the time, got them at Walmart, they are custom fit silicone. In the sporting good section, $10.95, you mix the two components together, squish it into your ear, wait about 15 minutes for it to cure, and they are custom fit, very effective, and very comfortable. | ||

Mack's silicone ear plugs, never leave home without them. No ringing in your ears from highway speeds. $4 for 12 plugs, better than custom made, foam or any other type. You can get them at any drug store. | ||

I bought some custom made plugs at a bike show. They are comfortable and effective. I don't wear them as often as I should though. For some reason when I have them in I don't feel as connected to the bike. My hearing is already suffering though, and I really should try to just get used to it and wear them all the time. | ||

I wear them as often as possible. Short 10 miles ar less I don't but probably should. Riding with the plugs is like riding a new bike. You can feek everything but it is so nice and quiet. | ||

I wear custom ear plugs on longer trips, in town usually not. I recently purchased a new Suomy Spec R1 to replace my Suomy Ventura (their 'economy line'). The R1 actually has more wind noise, yet cost 3x as much! Go figure.  I'm pretty anal about my hearing (having already lost some of it due to age and working in my home shop), so hearing protection is #1 on my list these days. I highly recommend spending the money for some custom ear plugs. Check out the audiologists in your area, get a free hearing exam while you're there, you might be surprised at the results. Wayne | ||

Always! Now, anyway. I'm the guy that has to take his hearing aids out to put ear plugs in. Or I can just mute the hearing aids for shorter periods of time. And my Shure E2c ear buds with triple flanged, silicone, tips like these is the thing for long rides with radio or music from a MP3 player/FM tuner. Jack | ||

All the time, no exceptions. I keep extras under the seat in case I lose one. The foam ones work just fine and are dirt-f'in-cheap. ...if I'm going to lose my hearing, it will be from load concerts and cranking the radio, not stupid wind noise from the bike.  | ||

I use the Shure E3's with (the yellow foamy ends) all the time (for the reasons stated above) except for the occasional short trip when I want to hear how cool I sound!  I have been thinking about getting some custom fit in-ear monitors, but they just haven't made it to the top of my farkle list yet.  | ||

Save yourself MUCHO bucks and buy earplugs from a safety supply company. They are used in factories by the hundreds everyday. I bought a box of 200 Howard Leight MAX earplugs, in individually wrapped pairs, in a cardboard box that serves as a dispenser for about $25. That box will last me YEARS! As you can guess....YES, I ride with earplugs. If you don't, then you'll suffer permanent hearing damage in very short order. The ears are one part of the human body that cannot heal themselves. Another vote for Hearos Walgreens, other drug stores have them commonly in stock - with a plastic container that holds 2 pair in your pocket. ALWAYS wear them. Doesn't matter about bike noise, there's a lot of wind noise and pressures. | ||

Strangely enough, in our Kollective State of KA which has become the benchmark of concern for the well-being of the masses, earplugs are illegal to protect the hearing of those said masses unless they are "custom fitted".  That being said, we use'm anyway on the highway since all you hear is wind noise which is pretty boring. I learned a long time ago that plugs can reduce fatigue at the end of multi-hundred-mile days, I don't know why but they work. Anything rated for shooting sports is fine for riding, my wife likes her push-in types and I like my foam rollups. Anything is better than nothing to protect the hearing. | ||
