I'm about the throw some new rubber on the Uly, but have been watching the front tire (scorpion syncs) wear down much worse on the left (sitting on the bike left) than the right. Not all the way to the edges, but about an inch left of center. I mean, there is NO tread there where as the opposite side seems like it could keep going for a good while. I'll try to get some pics up when I find my camera. Any thoughts? Josh | ||

Crowned roads. Roads are normally domed or "crowned" to facilitate run off of rain. A tire will naturally wear more to the left of center with domed roads, but you don't normally notice it until the tire is at the end of its life. You also get a little more wear out of left turns than right at intersections. | ||

I heard of a theory on this on the MTF forum. The opposite is true in left side of the road driving countries. Theory is this; to make a left turn in the states it takes more road to do it because you have to cross a lane of road, this means more mileage on the left side of your tire. To make a right turn you have no lane cross tighter turn and less mileage. maybe Danger Dave may be able to let us know if this is true to be opposite side driving country?? road crown I think adds to the issue. | ||

Road crowns are the main factor. Most of us spend (unfortunately) far more time going straight in the right hand lane than we do leaned over in a turn. I have not noticed this problem much since moving from the flatlands (mid-west) into the mountains. | ||

I have not noticed this problem much since moving from the flatlands (mid-west) into the mountains. Most roads in the mountains are cambered to the inside to accomplish the same benefits as the crowned road in the midwest (and on the interstate). | ||

A couple of years ago, a fellow Bueller had the same problem in Florida. After talking with him we figured out the only place he really gets on it for cornering is off ramp jug-handles. Always a left hander! | ||

I still have a Dunlop 616 on the front which I will change over to match my Scorpion in the back. It also has a funky wear pattern. The little squares are worn down on the back side of them(the last part of the square that touches the pavement). I attribute this to hard braking I am guessing. | ||

OK. Now I have seen what you mean in person. Orangulius was at my place today and he mentioned needing a front tire soon, where upon I looked at it and noticed that the wear pattern is exactly what you noted. The left side is nearly to the wear bars and the right has quite a bit of tread left. That seems like a manufacturers problem. Did you get your normal amount of mileage out of it? | ||

Yeah, I'd say. At 6K it's DONE. I've had the rear Sync for a good 4K, my Dad put a nail in the original. Going with Michelin Pilot Road 2's this time around. I didn't care for the way my last road trip (to Deal's Gap) devoured the Syncs... | ||

I have been very pleased with the Syncs. It would take some special tire to get me to change(or some special screw up). | ||

I love the PR2CT's. I have 2,000 miles on them right now. If I get 1000-1500 more miles out of them, they will be my new tire. | ||

FB: Not to hijack (but I am), how would you compare the PR2CT's to your next favorite (the Avon Storms, wasn't it), and do you think you have that many more mile it them? If you get 3500, I might be able to get 7000-8000 miles. | ||

The PR2CT's are as sticky or stickier than the Storms. The most I got was 4,000 miles out of the Storms. I feel that the PR2CT's are better as far as the feel. The profile is very similar to the Storms. I just feel the 2CT's are better. We'll see what kind of mileage I get out of them. I'd say that they are about half way done. | ||

Got cha! I have about 2000 miles on my first set of Distanzia's, and they are better in the dirt...but I am amazed how sticky they are on the road. The only thing that concerns me was that I felt a little front end vibes/shake when I was over 100 mph the other day. I know that I will get less mileage out of the Distanzia's than the Pirelli Sync's I was previously using, but it might be worth it for the dirt and twisty capabilities. But I will be heading to homecoming soon, and I am not sure I want to burn up the Distanzia's on the highway...so I am thinking about trying the Storms or the PR2CT's on the trip. Just thinking out loud. Now back to the thread....I just looked at my old Pirelli Sync front tire with 7,500 miles on it (approximately half life), and I have a little flat spot in the center but the left and right appear to have uniform wear. | ||

By the way...while I've got everyone looking at the front of my bike...see the white speckles on the plastic? It aint coming off! I've tried Bikebrite, Hondabrite, Plexus, Armor All, dish soap, and nothing even remotely took it off. I have no idea what it is (maybe road paint), but I suppose I'll go for paint thinner next. Any suggestions before I do? I love hijacking my own threads... | ||

Some contractors were painting a building beside our office a few years ago, this was over 100' away from our building, but a few days later, several employees noticed something on their cars. Turned out a breeze would come up and blew their paint over our parking lot. Can you scratch them off with your fingernail? | ||

Bross, thanks for the link. There's a lot of good info in there. Also, no I can't scape the white off either. I thought it just may wear off...a couple months ago. That didn't work either. |
