Question: What do you do when American Airlines cancels your business flight at the last minute so that you end up with the day off?

Answer: If you've had an XT on order - and your salesperson calls you at 3:00 pm and says "Wanna' help uncrate it"?, you grab your camera and haul ass to the dealer!

Ain't she a beaut?

Note how wide the crate is - almost twice the width of a crated 1125. You'll see why in the next picture.

Yep. The mounting rack and bags are factory installed. All the dealer has to "install" is the top bag, mirrors and windshield.

<insert joke about bad fitting condom here>

With the condom off.

Sean (my salesperson) rolling her off the pallet.

A little "heads up" note attached to the triple tail.

About this time, the battery in my camera took a dump so I was unable to get any more pics - but at least you get the idea of how the XT is crated for shipment. I'll post some more pics and first ride impressions after I bring her home Friday.

Just like Court predicted 2 months ago . . .

: )

And they didn't believe me. The crate required some innovation.

Those folks at Buell are GOOD . . . and that is one GREAT looking bike.

CONGRATULATIONS!

ah... and the color I wanted. Too... not that I'm unhappy with my orange, but I love that blue color.

As mentioned, it does seem a bit like a baby being born. Enjoy the ride.

Thanks all for the kind words! (And yes Court, you were exactly right when we talked on the phone about the new crates for the XTs. I never doubted you for a minute - although my dealer was skeptical when I first told him about it. Go figure.)

That crate was a piece of work! Here in Manhattan that's what's known as a "mid-size studio" . . . about $2400/month.

Crates, dating back to 1988, play an interesting role in Buell history.

Shall we remind you to tell us sometime? : )

Also...I'm guessing there's a specific reason they don't use the HD metal skids at Buell? Or is the reason the same as the interesting role the crates play? The XT looks like it'd fit perfectly on an FLH pallet....and I always wondered why Buell hadn't adopted the metal pallet.

Damnit man, I have that book on order from Amazon and I am betting that only a fraction of the "Remind me to tell you sometime" ended up in print. You stack six of those crates together and you get a multifamily condo unit ;)

-=sigh=-

None of the dealers around here can even tell me when they're getting one, let alone what color it is.

How do you ride it with all that wood around it?

Took it home last night and grabbed a couple of more pics....

At 5'6", I'm still on my tiptoes but I have no problem mounting/dismounting - even with the bags on (I throw my leg over as opposed to climbing up while it's still on the side stand). It's almost the same exact seat height at my 1200GS (although the 1200GS had the factory low seat option).
