Ran into two guys on brand new '08 Ulys at the corner gas station today, one black, one orange. Of course the orange one was in the lead... The one guy had his wire form break in the first couple of days apparently, they replaced it with this:
A little hard to see, but it looks pretty strong compared to our troublesome originals, I'm getting one asap. Enthusiastic pair, riding to AK this summer! Told'm about BadWeB, maybe they'll join in soon.
Sorry for the crappy pix... |

What is it connected to? |

It bolts down to the front isolator bracket, like the original wire form. Can't tell you what the material is, painted/anodized metal or even plastic, but it definitely looked up to the task. Since replacing the cable under warranty is rather expensive due to a silly little part breaking, hopefully this really is a factory replacement. Gee, maybe they'll do a recall... |

there was a post about the new part #N00.1AAA. I went to the Hardley stealership and they looked it up on the computer and it was not there. They kept telling me that it must be an aftermarket part because if Buell or Hrdley made it then it would be on their computer and Hardley does not make mistakes. I wanted to order one so anyone know if there is a place I can get one. Thanks |

I've got one on order. I also saw one on a new XT that my local dealer just got in. It looks like it should do the trick. |

I ordered the 2008 bracket too. I went Saturday and they say about 1.5 weeks. Wow, that's slow. 12.99+tax N0012.1AAA I ate a couple hotdogs, soda and chips too. hehe |

I got my new wire form replacement. It looks pretty stout. It's made of steel, and looks like it's Powdercoated. If I ever figure out how to shrink the photo to fit this site, I'll post a picture |

Calif. Buell/H-D has the new style wire form in stock! I 'bout fell over when the parts guy said yea, we got 2. The 1125R on the floor, looks much better in person. But, it's still not the bike for me. |

We've got a couple of the wireforms on order. Since they're a running replacement on the assembly line, they're a little tough to get at the moment (the timeframes noted above sound about right) but they are listed as "available" and not "backordered". |

Mine broke this weekend at MBV. The bike has around 800 miles on it. Does anyone have the part number for the clutch cable? It's a 200 mile round trip to the closest dealer. I might be cheeper if I just pay for the part and fix it myself. Anyone know of a dealer that stocks cables, the new bracket and a service manual? |

Chris, the part number for the new clutch cable wireform is N0012.1AAA. It's about $13 or $14. My local shop used a very sturdy HD brake line clamp since they didn't have the new part. |

Here's what they used on mine. Unknown what part number, if any. It was free, however.

Chris, You probably have it by now, but I see you wanted the clutch cable part number, not the wireform part #, which is posted just above your question. (Duh!) The cable is 38726-06B |

I took delivery of my '08 Saturday. I ordered the new cable holder and installed it before I left the dealer. Didn't seem worth the wait to watch it break and toast my clutch cable as the service guy agrees w/ Badweb as he said, "They all break, eventually." As cheap as I am, it was an easy $10 to spend as 1 less hassle to wait for. Also got an '08 service manual...they do exist. At least at Seminole Buell. |

Do these fit earlier years or is the problem only on 08s Mark |

It went right on my '06. The whole job took 15 minutes (I decided to lube the clutch cable, since I had it off). |

I just went out in the garage to verify that my 06' ULY's original wireform is still OK and it is. My warranty is over as of yesterday and my bike has 11,000+ miles on it. When's it going to break? Maybe tomorrow. |

I got my new 2008 version today from dealer. I had to each a couple hotdogs and sodas to get my money back on the part. hehe. While there, there was another couple year old CityX with a broken one. I asked who's it was and it was a new sales person's bike. I showed him my new part and told him his was broken. After I put my new part on in the parking lot, I decided to just fix his with my old wire that was still good. Then I walked back in and gave him his old broken pieces. His just started to bubble the top of the stretchy boot, so it wasn't melted through, so he's okay still. He should still order the newer version. |

Aren't the dealers providing this part as warranty? |

Sure, if you want to take it in and wait for a week. It was cheaper for me to order the cable, bracket and service manual than drive 2 hours each way to the dealer. They refuse to give you any warranty unless they install. |

Just put one on my Uly and another on Sara's Scg. Nice little change over.Peace of mind for me. Simple to do. I had goten the BAS recall done at Annapolis Hardley and they gave me a $10 coupon for next accesorie purchase if I filed out a satisfaction form. completed the form and went to parts counter and ordered the two parts. I got a great discount on the new clutch cable holders as a result of a free recall. |

Sure, if you want to take it in and wait for a week Um..we've done two in the last week. Customers have emailed me, told me what's up, I ordered the brackets and cables under warranty and called them when everything arrived. No reason for a dealer to keep the bike there while the parts are on order; worst case, take it by on your way home so they can see the failure, write down a VIN and a phone number and order the parts. It took less than 8 working days start to finish to get stuff ordered/in for us. Which reminds me, I need to check on the third one on Monday....parts should be in for that one too. |
