Yesterday, my wife finally rode on the Uly with me. She has been riding the Triumph Speedmaster, so we don't usually double up on one bike. it was 74 degrees yesterday (6" of snow today!), so we went for a short ride on the Uly and got some dinner. When we dismounted at the restaurant, she miss her step and fell of the bike. It's a long way down. We parked next to the curb and her head hit it, leaving a big scrape on her helmet. It wouldn't have pretty without her helmet. Her hand hurts as she stuck it out to brace the fall, must mostly just hurt her pride. I will really need to adjust the suspension with her on the back. The front was entirely too light, cool wheelies though. I didn't like the way it handled in the curves. I did however stand flatfooted when stopped. We came up with a system. I get off first, then she slides up front and dismounts like getting off a horse. She was used to getting off our other bikes where you can just jump off the back. I'm trying to talk her into us selling the Triumph and getting a XT. Lower, tall windscreen, different suspension. This fall didn't help. ---Bob |

You do sit way up there on the Uly, especially if you're short like me. There is no way I can get on or off the Uly without using the pegs. I hope her hand is okay, glad she had her helmet on. |

Yep, Definitely adjust the preload with a rider on the back. Handling just ain't the same if you don't. |

My wife is a shorty and has to climb on and off the Uly in steps. I always get on the bike before she does, plant my feet (I'm long enough of inseam to allow that with a '07 seat on my '06), then she uses MY left footpeg as the first step up so she can swing her right leg up and over. Puts her right foot onto her peg then moves her left foot back. Even with the topcase on and her short legs she can clear everything just fine once she steps up onto my left peg. Dismounts before me in reverse fashion. Works just fine. Different bikes require different procedures sometimes, just need to work them out. |

My wife does the same.... She waits til, I am on and then uses the rear pegs to lauch herself on there..with a gentle tug on my jacket neck to help her. Getting off..is like jumping off a cliff for her. I just told her to get used to it... Gotta pay for that comfortable pillon seat at some cost. |

Go watch people get on and off a Horse. If you are riding a Uly you have to do the same. There is no stepping down off a Uly especially from the back seat. Hope your wife is okay. |

+1 to Xbimmer method. That is how my 5'-2.5" wife (she insists on the 2.5) gets on/off the Uly (using the driver pegs). I have a 36" inseam, though, so it is pretty easy for me to hold the bike up. I do not trust a kickstand enough to ever use it for holding anything beyond the bike. Easy to say when you are tall enough to get away with out it, however. |

I always have my passengers get on first. They sit on the front seat then slide back as I lift my foot across in front of them. When we dismount, I get off first, she slides forward and gets off as if she were the driver. My wife doesn't do long jumps and high dives. |
