Just put a deposited down on a new left over '06 Uly with only 75 miles on her. They are taking my beloved '05 Firebolt and $3685 OTD (including TTT) for the Uly.

Being that I live about 1/2 hr form the Dragon, I will really miss the Firebolt. I am looking forward to exploring some forest service roads, taking long trips and riding 2 up with the g/f on the back all of which the Uly is better suited for.

I am a heating and cooling service tech and the shop that I am buying the Uly from is one of my bosses HVAC customers. I have had my eye on this exact Uly for the past couple of years. They were ready to move her out and made me an offer that I couldn't refuse.

I'm going to pick her up tomorrow or the next day depending on the weather. Any tips for a new Uly owner including break in tips would be appreciated.

Tips? Add some lead weights to the front wheel to keep it on the ground, add some beefy looking fog lights, and make sure you wear a full face helmet to keep the bugs out of your perma-grin. : )

The Uly is every bit as capable as the Bolt.

Yup the camera bike was a Uly on the third video. Bike off, fan on Whirrreeeeeeeeee.
I could see the Aprila mirrors on {Fattys?) bike in the shadow.

Looks like a fantastic road. Too bad they put it way over on the other side of the country.

Back on topic, once you get the suspension adjusted to your liking and get some seat time to figure it out you won't miss the Firebolt too much.

FTGlad nobody was coming around that corner at 3:25 on that first vid.

No kidding. It was 45-50 degrees and I was running on a used Tomahawk (long story) that didn't want to warm up.

There was another point that I went to torque out of a turn and it simply spun. I ended up very close to losing it.

On that one, I was giving it a little rear break and the tire broke loose.

They weren't bad tires once warm, but they did NOT like cold asphalt and a bike with lots of low end torque.

Damn Fatty that's some great riding! It is supposed to be mostly sunny and in the 50's this weekend. I'm on call for work but I should be able to get some dragon slaying time in.

Ain't me. It's the bike.

When I'm in the groove, it's like buttah!

The Uly is taller and a little heavier than the Bolt, but all the good handling characteristics are the same.

You are gonna love running the Dragon on it.

Be careful of Gravity Cavity coming from the store though. The first time through always surprises me. You will have to work harder to make the left, right, left transition because the rotation is a little slower than the Bolt.

Just rode her home tonight after work. The temp was in the high 20's burrrr.

The Uly is super comfortable which I cannot say about the bolt. It ran a tad rough in the lower rpms until it warmed up or the ECM adjusted for the cold conditions which only took a mile or two.

It ran great after that. No surging or stumble of any kind at all. The motor felt just like my bolt did which is to say great.

I like the updated gear box. It is a big improvement. The clutch doesn't start to engage until the lever is half way out. Is that normal?

The only disappointment so far is the headlights. I ran the high beams all the way home and no one flashed me. I was over riding the light at any speed over 35 mph! I think aiming them up a bit will help but, I see a lighting up grade in the near future.

It is supposed to be a nice weekend here. I hope to get some time on her in the twisties!

Clutch, yup...normal.

Headlights, I would bet that they are not adjusted correctly, probably set too low.

Spend some time tweaking the suspension, and have fun!

I'm going to set the suspension as per the owners manual.

Where is the adjustment for the headlights?

One on each side and one on the fender (the three bolts that hold the housing). You get at the side ones using a #27 torx through the holes in the sides of the fairing and the final one is under the fender. Stock lights are weak - I think the $100 bulbs from American sportbike is a worthy upgrade and takes just a few minutes.

Loosen the bolt in the bottom of the beak. Pull the lights forward. Tighten back up.

Lighting upgrade was my first mod!

The clutch may need adjusting. If you haven't gotten one, I highly recommend the service manual.

(I bet you knew that already. : D)

The only disappointment so far is the headlights.

I just installed PIAA 510's and PIAA extreme white bulbs to replace the stockers.

Nipsey: those must be some serious bulbs for $100! I hope they last a long time.

FB: I have the Firebolt service manual. Going to get a Uly service manual.

Chrisgrant: have any pics of your 510 install?

I'll try aiming the lights higher tonight.

No pics yet. I have all of the wiring done but I'm waiting on a light bar that I ordered. It should be in next week.

There are several posts on this subject with pics. Here are a couple.

Once you re-aim the headlights they arn't to bad. You can also go down to the auto parts store and get you a 100w bulb for the high beam (or both H/L) makes a big difference for < $20.00.
I think most of the early 06's came with the headlights aimed to low.

Bosh, have you run the 100w bulbs? Will the housing handle the heat?

I've had the 100w bulbs in for over 2 years now with no problems. Reflectors still look like new.

Chrisgrant those bulbs are only drawing 55 watts so the heat should be the same as stocker bulbs.

Bosh, are you using bulbs that actually draw 100 Watts? Did you up grade the wiring?
