Hey all, I'm looking to put an additional set of lights on my Uly... I've seen several pics with them on there, but am in the dark as to which ones are the most effective in brightness, easy to install, and don't break the bank. Also, do I need a separate light bar to mount them on??? I'm a newbie, so bear with me. Thanks in advance | ||

The possibilites are endless,it depends on wether you're a practicle sort of bloke really. Do a search or just wait a while and people are bound to show you what they've done,you can buy a small pair of budget car spot/driving lights and these are bound to be an improvement over the originals. As for where to mount them,just make or have made/buy a bracket to hang them from the lower tripple (yoke in the UK),hang them from the indicator stalks,move the indicators (sorry,winkers) and bolt them there,etc,etc. Good luck,here's what I did:      | ||

I've seen a small oval set of PIAA's mounted by two long machine screws through the stiff inner portion of the blinker stalks, (winkies). Blinkers were still functional and the mount looked good except the screws were left too long and were aluminum in color (gray or black painted would have been less obstrussive). The set up was somewhere here on BWB, I just don't recall the thread but I kept the idea in mind for this winter and Joules. ~jammer | ||

PIAA's are outrageously high priced if you ask me. I would NOT use the thin aluminum angle stock from Lowe's or Home Depot to build a utility light bracket. It is NOT structural aluminum. Some people have had their utility light bars crack or break off. If you do it yourself, I'd use 6061-T6 ALUMINUM angle or flat stock from here: http://www.onlinemetals.com/merchant.cfm?id=62&ste p=2&top_cat=60 Or you could use non-structural aluminum stock, i guess, just make sure its of the thicker type. . I just used a piece of aluminum flat stock, 3/8" thick. Cut it to length to fit the PIAA 510's and drilled holes for the light mounts and fork mount. Added some rubber to isolate the vibration and viola... a perfect light bar! And it cost me nothing as I had the aluminum laying around the garage.    | ||

Thanks for all the input so far... i think I'll make a bracket out of the suggested aluminum and put the Piaa's on it. Does anyone know where to get the best deal on PIAA 510's? | ||

I had the PIAA 510's on a Ulytility bar.  Overall i was happy with them, but i felt the bar was too weak, as it cracked and bent in a minor lowside, but somehow it withstood all my wheelies.  Total for the bar and lights was a reasonable at about $250 | ||

I haven't tried them yet myself, but I want to eventually get a set of Lightforce auxiliary lights. The housings are made out of some kind of high impact plastic and the lenses are of polycarbonate. They are supposed to be very lightweight, durable, and have impressive light output. They might not be street legal, as I think they come in 75W and 100W varieties, plus a HID version that is freakin' huge. The 75W style is small enough to look good on a bike. You can get plastic filter lenses to snap on to the front which will give you a yellow, blue, wide angle, spot, or a combination pattern, and they offer an infrared pass-only filter in case you want to illuminate for night vision without visible light. I want one of those. I've heard you can blind laser speed detectors with a strong IR source, so the filter would give you that without a cop seeing a blinding light. I think I've seen Lightforce lamps mounted on R1150GS's. | ||

I been looking at the new twin light on the HD FAT BOB, If I take off the stock headlights and powdercoat the HD chrome black About $350 , Any thoughts, Looks like an easy fit for more light. | ||

I don't have a current pic but I put set of 004xt Piaas on a ulytility bracket. they are less than 2.5 inch diameter but they throw a tremendous amount of light. List is about $180 but you can get them on ebay below $120 | ||

The HD mount is one bolt, as the lights are larger diameter maybe some small mods. My bike is going for service next wk. So I plan on taking my tape to measure some dia. for mounting. My purposes is for daylight vis. as I've been told that with the stock lighting I'm not very noticeable in the shadows | ||

I wish I saw this thread a few hours earlier. I just ordered a set of lights like Mikef5000 has. If I had known or even suspected that Walmart would have them I would have just gone there. Doh! I'm gonna try something a bit bizarre and try mounting them on to the handguards. Hopefully vibration won't be an issue. | ||

Howdy, I got them from a bike gear catalog over here in the UK called 'M&P' a few years ago. I'm sure you can find similar stuff wherever you are,'Hippo Hands' are a popular version,try Googling for them. Good luck,they certainly help your hands but may effect the handling at speed. | ||

I am going to start looking into this myself. I would like to put some driving lights on mine and even some fog lights. I ride my bike every day no matter what I have to drive early in the morning and in fog a lot too. | ||

Rocky Mountain ATV has a nice and cheap set of Tusk bark busters, and matching plastic wind deflectors. I got a set to put on my KLR-250 and was very happy with them. | ||

+1 I've used the Tusk Guards on 4 bikes (including the Uly) now and have been very happy.
