I really like the XT in concept. It's the bike I've thought Buell should be making for a few years now.I'm probably going to buy one, but I won't buy a bike that I haven't ridden(a Demo ride once saved me from making a terrible mistake). I was at my local dealership last Saturday, and the salesman (Eboos) told me that they probably wouldn't have one until June. Is anyone else getting one sooner?

I've been waiting to get myself a larger bike more capable of two-up riding/touring for a couple of years now. I'd pretty much settled on going big and laying hands on a Yamaha FJR, but I have to say the XT has piqued my interest.

I'd love to get on one with my girlfriend and see how comfortable it is for the pair of us. If I went with a XT, it would probably replace my Firebolt as the daily rider, too, the tailbag would be too convenient to avoid it. I doubt the same could be said of the FJR, the thing's just too big for my tastes to scoot all over town on.

...I can't say the thought of having small, medium, and large Buells in the garage next to each other doesn't bring a big freaking grin to my face, either. ; )

had to take a ride out to gastonia(charlotte nc) and they had no idea when one was coming in. they did how ever morph a long into one for their demo fleet. had the uly tail sectiona and front fender on it which from what i understand that's all the xt really is. i need a raise and some overtime so i can get me one when they come out. scratch the idea of the 1125.

congrats, i really want to know what it's like. in fact, i'd rather do a test ride on the xt than the 1125 next month. i'm sure you'll be bringing it to mbv and are you trading something in or are you able to keep your other bikes 1313.

I'm curious how the lower bike will handle with the Stradas. I'm not real happy with the rear Strada I put on recently, even though it works well with the front Sync. Not unhappy with it, just not real satisfied.

Turn-in and left-right-left transitions are not as stable as the Syncs, and I don't think I'll get any more mileage from the tire than the 6.5k I was getting from a rear Sync.

Don't know whether it's the Uly's height but I'm switching back to the Syncs.

I'm also curious about the XT's tall shield and how it works, looks different from my Buell Tall.

Hey guy's I do not think the new xb12xt is a good deal it has the old 43mm forks and less turning radias, the new bull xbx has the 47 mm forks, I was going to buy the new xbx but I bought a ll25R and gave the ulysses to my son for lending me the money to buy the 1125R. I have been working on the bike to lower it and I have been in touch with some suspension experts I have fork springs that I got but have not put in but what I am doing it when I do I will collaps the front forks then raise the forks up in the tripple trees to were the wheel comes close to hitting something and doing this with out the ulysses lower fender, just removing the fender will give at the least 3/4" more room to rais the forks up but you have to buy handlebar risors that pivit out of the way, I then will raise the forks up in the clamp and see how close the wheel will get to hitting something, now once I do this and know the measerments I can have a rear shock made to my specs and I have measured with out the lower fender on that a shock fully compressed at 11" brings the tire with in 1/2" before hitting the seat pan. I beleive I can get the ulysses lowerd with out giving up the suspension travel, just buy removing the lower fenders you gain 3/4" that you can lower the bike, so if I had bought the new ulysses I would want 6" of travel front and rear that would lower the bike 1" or more and would be perfect for were I live which is boston Mass bad roads everywere, I also had the D&D exhaust on the bike and gave it more ground clearence so that was another plus, so I think that the 08 ulysses X not T would be the smart choice to go and I would wait till you see one used on ebay and buy that then with the money you save do the suspension and seat mods, I have a guy that told me he can lower the low seat another inch and it will be more comfortable. I had a real hard time deciding between the 08 ulysses or the 1125R, my brain said ulysses with a 88" motor and custom suspension and few other things that brought the price up to 20+ thousand dollars or buy the 1125R that had the power and handling I was looking for, My wallet said 1125R, but some day I am getting a used 08 ulysses and building a monster machine out of it, I think buell should have used the x 47mm triple trees the xbx has with the 1125R forks, that would make the XT bike wourth buying. Given its focus as strictly a street bike, I don't see the 43mm forks or lack of steering lock as being a significant issue. Keep in mind that most sport bikes currently come stock with 43mm (or smaller). And for what it's worth, the BMW 1200GS only has 41mm forks. (BMW will counter that the telelever suspension doesn't require thicker tubes but I'm skeptical.)

I'll be very interested in the 1125 when it ships with sport touring ergos - but my ownership experience with two Firebolts has taught me that I won't be happy unless I'm sitting more upright. Guess I'm not aging well.

Towjam I am turning the 1125R into a sport tourer/ track bike I am making handlebars by one of two ways, but let me tell you this the 1125 is my first true sportbike and I thought it would be uncomfortable but find it very comfortable, now there are a few people who are making kits for the bike and I know a machinest that makes top clamps that have both mounts so you got the R's stock mount and the ulysses top mount so you can switch back and fourth, Al from American sport bike is making a top clamp that gives one inch rise and one inch pull back, and seen www.convertibars.com but will not work with the stock top clamp. Now this is what I am doing if I can get 4-45 degree elbows I can use them to make my own bars which would be just for me and would look like I got fat bars and would give me rise and pull back, my second idea is to get solid aluminum bars cut them in half and adjust them to the right way then drill, and tap them to be like the stock bars, but all this searching is wearing me down and I am thinking that the bike is just fine like it is and doing a couple hundred miles a day is not a problem at all, once I sit right and lean just right I am comfortable. Mike

These are the SAME 43mm MASSIVE fork tube used by many racers. Calling them old is misleading, they are different and better suited to the task they are being used for.

Court,
Doesn't the XT utilize the 08' triple clamps with the increased steering radius? If not, why not? Works for our resident mod guru Treadmarks.

My impression, and I confess the XT really fascinates me, is that the XB12XT uses the 54o degree turning radius and the 43mm fork tubes.

The 2008 Ulysses rolled out an offset triple clamp which increased lock-to-lock steering from 54o to 74o. Apparently it was considered unnecessary or undesirable on the XT.

The XT has a host of subtle differences getting down to such small stuff as unique graphics on the panel. The wheels are unreinforced as the additional weight/mass was not needed in it's intended role.

The 1.5" (roughly) of suspension travel the XT gives up from the standard Uly still gives it plenty of travel, again for it's intended street role.

The XT is about 6" longer and 4.4" wider as a result of the luggage and the wheelbase is slight shorter. The big draw is the 1.1" lower seat.

It's cool that there were some folks who had to design a special crate for this bike. It is shipped with the luggage installed. The top case and the windscreen are part of the PDI procedures.

I'd be in a quandary. The taller bike is no problem for me and there are times, riding in New York City, I'd prefer to be "up" in the air. As fun as it is to see Uly's splashing through creeks and running down dirt roads . . . I've never really taken my street bikes into that environment and if I were going there I'd likely take a KTM 250.

The XT looks like a really well thought out solution to the street going Buellers problems. I'll be it emerges as one of Buells best sellers.

NO it does not have the 08 forks with more turning radius, I had written above about this and got an answer as that it does not need them, I disagree strongly because I live in a city and going around cars in traffic is a big issue that the 43 mm 07 uly can not do, I would rather buy the 08 ulysses and lower it, buell also could have used the clamps with the 1125R forks. I gave my ulysses to my son for lending me the money to buy the 1125R, but deep down I want a 08 ulysses for many reasons like the new motor design, and the bigger forks, and more turning radius, and this is what I would want to do to it. I will wait to I find a used one cheap way down the road when I can afford a second bike, and would turn the 1125R into a track bike and build the ulysses for my everything bike, and would start by pulling the motor and having the cases bored to accept a 88" motor kit plus heads, cams, slipper clutch, eight piston caliper, and head work, the kit puts out like a 135 HP and 115 TQ, then I would have custom rear shock with six inches of travel and I know that if you take off the rear fender it will give you almost an inch of clearance and I also think that the bike can be lowered in the rear by two inches and would have a custom shock built to my specs, then I would send the forks out to be rebuilt and to have six inches of travel and also can remove the lower fender and that gives extra clearance, so the whole bike can be lowered by two inches and the low seat can be lowered another inch and be made more comfortable from what I have been told that is like dropping 3" in seat height, then I would build a custom exhaust or the D&D which gives more ground clearance and build a skid plate to protect it and the bike. I would end up with a ulysses that would be able to do anything I ask of it in comfort, I would do a custom paint job which I can do my self as all the other work, I just need to buy the parts to do it and figured this would cost around 20 grand to do with the price of a used one now if you could find one on ebay and I did a couple of weeks ago so I would urge anyone to wait and buy a 08 xbx and not the xbxt. I think the new xt is just a way to sell more bikes and make more of a profit by using the 43 mm forks and triple clamps instead of the new 47 mm forks and triple clamps with a reworked forks. I personally do not like the bags, I use my bike for shopping and find it a pain in the ass to put groceries into them and I would get the aluminum boxes that load from the top and would be very easy to go shopping with. I do not own more than two wheels so I would end up with a very nasty bike and would be my S U V. Mike

The 1.5" (roughly) of suspension travel the XT gives up from the standard Uly still gives it plenty of travel, again for it's intended street role

FWIW, the XT also uses triple-rate springs up front (compared to the X's double-rate) so I don't see the 4.9" of travel as being a hindrance on the street. In fact, that's more more travel than number of other "heavy hitters" in the sport touring class - Honda ST1300, VFR, BMW 1200RT, etc.

It would be nice to have the extra steering lock but as I mentioned in an earlier post, I've owned 3 XBs previously and I don't recall that being a problem. But again, my riding is 100% pavement. And to be honest, in MY perfect world, all riding would be indoors. With Hooters girls (all members of MENSA) attending to servicing needs (for both the bike and myself).

I'll buy you a drink if you'll post your first impressions in the next few days.

How can I pass on an offer like that? Those who know me know that if I pass up an offer of a drink, something isn't right. However, my impressions will be forthcoming in the next couple of days. Until then, some pictures will have to suffice.
When I picked it up:

XB12XT

What it looks like currently:

XB12XT day 2

Loving it!

Thanks for taking the time to post 'em.

As of this past Saturday morning, there were only 5 XTs showing up in the dealership system. I'll bet you that drink that you're probably the first customer to take delivery in the US!

Congrats again!
