Picked up my 06 uly in north wilksboro nc on Wednesday. Rode it home to gastonia and to work in Charlotte yesterday.

I've been riding my hd's since 2000 but decided to purchase a uly to use as a commuter bike. I ride 60 mi round trip to work daily.

I bought it from a guy that dumped it a couple of times and his wife through the biothch down and made him sell it. I paid 7K. It has 3700 miles on it.

I noticed a couple of things so far.

1. the fan runs alot, even when it's cool out.

2. The seat is very high. I can barely touch tippy toe with one leg while sitting on it. I see a new lower seat in my future.

3. It has plenty of ponies. It runs great particularly at highway speeds. Handles great.

4. I purchased the hepco bags and the bigger windscreen from Chicago HD. I need more wind protection for the cool temps.

5. It idles a bit rough. The tach needle bobbles a little around 1K at idle. The fan speed also seems to vary at idle.

It's a great bike, i'm very happy with it and i look forward to riding many miles.

It's quiet a different experience from the sporty and Road King.

I've been reading the board but would be happy with any suggestions on the seat or with any technical issues I should be aware of.

I look forward to participating in future discussions.

The '06 low seat is a good choice to get your reach. Some like the '08 style because it narrows at the front and the front is stepped lower. See if your dealer will let you try a different one. It is easy to lower the fork tubes in the triple clamps too.

See if the Bank Angle Sensor recall was done. It will be located behind the seat rear latch if it was. There was also a recall on the side stand bolts. These things can be researched in the Knowledge Vault.

Anything else that people will list for you has been hit or miss and I wouldn't let any of it worry you as just about everything is an inexpensive easy fix with the help you can get here.

Welcome to the BadWeb!!

The best way to stop the fan from running is a right side scoop. Use the Knowledge Vault search function for more info and discussion on this topic.

Congratulations on your choice of commuter bike. It's a good one.
The fans speed fluctuation at idle may be due to it not getting enough zots. I would suggest that you clean, inspect and shim your battery cable connections with a washer. The bolts that hold them onto the battery are a tiny bit long and sometimes don't allow the connection to be tightened properly. Also, the rough idle is likely a result of it needing a throttle position sensor reset. It's a dealership job but not too expensive.
Enjoy the ride!

TPS reset is really easy with ECMspy and a cable from jmhinkle (not sure if he makes them still) or someone else (about $40) Need a computer(laptop) with USB port. And to download the USB drivers. Install the drivers first, before hooking the cable to the laptop. Now you can do TPS reset anytime you want with no extra dealer cost or waiting.

Congratulations Pherris. You bought a great bike. As far as the rough idle goes, it may be as simple as adjusting the idle speed. Maybe turn it up a little? Maybe a TPS reset? Either way, pretty simple fix.

Search for Treadmarks square idle mod. First thing I am changing once it heats up again.

Pherris - welcome to Buells and BadWeB. Come on over to Carolina Corner Carvers and introduce yourself. We have several Uly owners within C3.

Here is a seat comparison we did with the 06 stock, 06 low and 07 stock seats. This may help with your reach and seat decision.

I'm pretty sure that would blow your fuse, and then you'd have to look at the red 'check engine' light instead.

the 07 and 08 seats are cheaper then the 06 lower seat, and they're about the same to sit on, in my opinion.

Pherris; Congratulations on getting one of the best motorcycles ever built! I hope you got one of the sexier ORANGE versions.
I suggest you go to a local dealer and sit on an '07 or '08 and see if you like how the seat feels. I've got an '06 with the Low seat, and I'm reasonably happy with it. A lot of people prefer the '07 seat to the '06 low seat, but there are some who feel the opposite.
Be glad that your fan runs a lot. Buell engineers discovered that the biggest cause of oil breakdown was oil that was pooled in the Cylinder heads would "cook" after the engine was shut down. The fan cools the heads quicker which means your oil lasts longer and works better.

It is orange. And, i doubt i'll be in the mud with it. I was never the dirt bike type. I like the long tours. My wife and I tour every summer. She usually rides the sporty but I think i'll ride the uly and let her ride the RK.

It's interesting how I came about to buy the Buell. I read an atricle in Enthusist. A mag by HD. The writer is an employee. He outlined all the bikes he had ridden between strugis and the national hog rally in Knox TN. He raved about the uly. He road the uly from Milwaukee to Knox. I started reading some of the blogs. Ended up buying one having never ridden one. I'm facinated with it and can't wait til the next ride. Even my friends and coworkers are scratching their heads.

Congrats on the ULY.....Everything is normal on your bike, jiggling turn signals at idle, fan runs even in the 40's, doesn"t like to run under 3k rpm, don't sweat the small stuff, just ride it... over 36K miles on my 06...still smilin'
