I only get 29 to 33 mpg. 15% city 85% highway I got 42 mpg once all highway and 60 mph.

Most of our ULYs started life with lower mpg but mileage got better and better as the miles flew by. As the v-twin loosens up the mileage should improve. Another factor is the temperature outside. It's hard to get good mileage out of short jaunts and cold weather doesn't lend itself to cruising. I haven't been on my ULY for a few weeks now because of the snow and frigid temps. I'm sick of this weather. Thank God for Gold's gym or I'd probably be getting fitted for a straight jacket by now.

Also need to factor in that in the winter some states switch to a blend of gas thats oxygenated, that also makes a nice dent the the numbers.

I'm getting 28.5 to 32 on about 20% city, 50% B roads, and 30% highway; so pretty similar. Guessing that as well as the new engine, it the new bike syndrome, and I'm being pretty heavy on the throttle. Usual commute is stop-go B roads, or motorway blasts at 80 to 100 mph (when flowing with the traffic or a clear road that is).

Maybe when the new-bike-itis wears off then I'll hit better mileage... (but at the minute I don't care!).

Are you using good fuel?

I have 2k on my '08 and even though I haven't kept a close eye on my mpg, I do know it's much lower than the '04 XB12S or '06 XB12Ss I had. I'll try to keep better tabs on it this weekend. The DRZ400SM I have with full Yoshimura pipe, jet kit, 3x3 airbox mod, and 38t rear sprocket nets me 65-70 mpg on regular gas every playful ride...I like Buells alot...but damn I love that little suzook!

Out of interest - what's your normal speed that you ride at? Are you in one of those 55mph states?
11k on an 08 - nice.

Got mine in November, only about 1200 mi. on it. Always under 40 mpg, averaging about 30-35. From what I've read it should get better, but it seems like the '08s aren't doing as well as earlier models.

This is kinda odd since my X1 gets 52 pretty consistently and my friend's XB12 gets a little better than that.

Bigkuri, I did lots of secondary road miles 55 mph to 85. Got my first ticket in Lake Placid this fall.Stayed off the gas for awhile and got 54 mpg.

Makes sense - I think that they eat gas at anything above 70mph. UK roads are fast.
Wonder how our Autoban German friends get on?

My '07 is also lucky to squeak 40 mpg if it is solid highway riding at 80 - 85 mph. Best I've ever seen is 48, commuter average is 40 - 41, lowest was 34.
'06 owners seem to do the best as far as gas mileage; '07 and '08 seem pretty similar.

I've got about 4,100 miles on mine. Best tank was 46.5 MPG. Overall average has been 35.5 MPG. The mileage is really suffering in the cold weather (long warm ups) and my commute is really short so that doesn't help. I thought something was wrong so had some dyno runs done to make sure my air/fuel (~14/1) was correct. Here's a chart of my mileage so far. Hope it improves with age. Even with the lower numbers it's a great ride!

Cheers!

Nice graph! You are almost as much of a geek as me!.... : D

Seriously - good data though. Getting down to 21.9mpg is harsh. Can you relate temp to the mpg?

What's a short commute for you? (that sort of thing is all relative).

The 21.9 was an anomaly. 30.7 miles on 1.4 gallons. Not sure why that was so low! Possibly rode that gallon really hard or lots of idling? The 22.2 was also from a short refill. 61.9 miles on 2.8 gallons and lots of short commutes in cold weather (35/40 degrees).

My commute is seriously short, only about 1.5 miles. So after a ~5 minute warm up, if I go straight to work, she's just reaching operating temp. I'll often go for a longer ride just to make sure I get her hot.
