I noticed that Andy of Appleton is having a 20% off sale on December 1st for parts and accessories. What is worth stocking up on? I'm thinking about ordering the following: 1. Drive Belt 2. Clutch Cable 3. Shifter Lever 4. Rear Brake Pedal 5. Lyndale Front Brake Pads I also thought about the 1125R front brake setup (about $450 after discount for everything), but I really don't need that...it would just be fun to have. Anything else a Buell junkie should have?  | ||

Rat great, a couple of extra Buells! That's a great list Maximum. I would add a set of wheel bearings to the list. They are about 35 bucks for each end. I keep a set of almost used up tires just in case someone drops buy and needs something to get down the road or I get a nail locally or similar. | ||

Good list. A set of high-quality rear wheel bearings would be a good addition (see earlier threads). | ||

I actually carry both pedals and both levers with me. Haven't needed them yet but just in case they are there. | ||

Like anything on the list -- until you need one, and no one has one in stock. Amen to that! After our last episode, I ordered the parts you have listed, plus foot pegs, brake lever, shift linkage. My thought was what are small, reasonably priced parts that I could keep on hand that would keep Carlos from riding or making it back home from an adventure. No sure having a spare belt is worth the investment. I changed my belt at 20,000 miles. I keep the old one as a spare. | ||

Ah come on guys - It's not like we're driving around on GS's... I've known some GS riders to carry around spare parts and oil for their final drive (gotta use those huge side boxes for something!..). Buell's are incredibly simple, and I'm not sure that there are any more belt failures than respective to a chain or shaft-drive machine. I'm new to Buell's, however old to motorbike maintenance. I'd like to see the KTM crowd carry around water pumps and tools/fluid required!...  You really want spares - then carry around a decent toolkit, some tyre plugs, and some zip ties + duct tape. The rest is the way of zen... ----- Actually, as soon as I posted that I realised you were talking about some sale goods to stock up on... oops. Oil, fliters, 1xset of brake pads, and lots of carbon silly things that just bolt on and look good... Anything consumable (Message edited by bigkuri on December 02, 2007) | ||

Just make a list of the parts most liable to break and stop your bike, call your local dealer and ask whether they stock them. My purchasing dealer 10 miles away stocked NOTHING but oil filters, spark plugs and a couple bolts, that meant a week or more if my bike was down. It's a lot easier to go to my garage and pull a belt or cable or air filter or whatever from a shelf when I need to than drive 50 miles to the nearest Buell-oriented dealer! I'd suggest also stocking up on some of the tools to make working on your XB even easier: fork spring compressor, seal driver, GOOD set of quality hex wrenches and ratchet drives, build one of those fancy cradles for a moto jack, etc. Even though I have a free service contract for 6 more months I won't let the dealer touch my Uly, I actually enjoy working on my bike and it's done right. | ||

Every repair I've had done at the dealer was done on time and right the first time. Wish you lived closer. I'd introduce you to a great dealer. | ||

FB, what's the story on your need for a spare rear tire? Sounds a lot like my recent ordeal which lead to this thread: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/320852.html BTW, I ended up ordering refills for my Stop-n-Go kit and a "Safety Seal" ATV tire repair kit plus spares for that. Guess I need to pick up some Slime the next time I see some too... | ||

An extra latch for the H-B luggage is a must. You can baby them all you want. Nonetheless, failure is eminent. Why H-B made the latches with a plastic of minimal tensile strength is beyond me. |
