Who makes a good seat?

What's not to like about the '06 stock seat?

Regular height 06? regular height 07?

Either way, I think the best think for you to do would be to get ahold of these guys:

http://www.sargentcycle.com/custserv.htm

and have them redo the stocker with new foam into a custom butt pad.

If you feel like you need a back rest you need to throw it in the corners deeper and come out harder!

What do you think that thing is, a Harley or something???

Your "to do" list doesn't include chrome does it?

I'm sorry, I couldn't help my self!

"What's not to like about the '06 stock seat?"

It makes your ass go numb in 15 minutes, the seams cut into your thighs, it's too wide for any human to straddle it and my passengers found it uncomfortable too. It had no good qualities. I have an '06 orange and black that is up for sale if anyone wants it.

>>"What's not to like about the '06 stock seat?" <<

Nothin'.

I find it one of the most comfortable of the several hundred I've used.

Wife agrees. Height thing I reckon.

I had a 06 seat redone by Sargent. I tried every other seat available for the Uly and none made my rear happy. The Sargent seat is awesome. Turn around was 10 days.

I had a Corbin on my Trophy.

Hated it when I was overweight - loved it when i was fit.

I will second the Sargent seats. I have not had one made for the Uly but I did for a couple of other bikes and they were great.

Jmhinkle,
What are you asking for the seat? I need a pan and the foam as a starting point to a custom seat.

Chrisb,

Slightly off topic -- what exactly did you have done to the '06 seat, and at what cost ?
I have an '06 seat waiting to get 'worked on', and Sargent is where I'll probably go.

"Who makes a good seat"?

Buell makes a great saddle. I have ridden both the 06 and the 07 Uly saddles and find them both to be some of the most comfortable that I have ever encountered. The 07 is better if you are under 6' tall.

They are also dirt cheap at just over $100.

I had the super cell dish and widen service done. You have to "add" that mod to the standard recover service. I had a coupon so it ended up being around $250. Compared to the price of a new stock seat its outrageous! Yet I cant ride any of the stock seats for more than an hour without being in pain and "other" parts numb. The Corbin was ok but it dropped me down too low and the sliding back and forth while riding gets quite annoying after a while.

I looked into the Russel Day Long. The price tag was double that of the Sargent and a 3 month waiting list before you even send the seat to them.

For me it was either sell the bike b/c it was putting me in pain after 45min of riding, or have a custom seat done.

Too Tall

Google ,Rich's custom seats, they are in Seattle Wa.
I have had them do a few seats for me.
Very reasonable price, every thing from adding simple gel pad to complete restructure of your seat.
I am taking two seats to them @ IMS in Seattle at end of month.

Just got my '08 -- I've noticed that when I'm stuck in slow traffic, lots of braking, I wind up slid forward on the seat and my butt goes numb. At speed, no problem. I test rode an '06, and the seat was flatter and a little higher, very comfy, and I'm seriously considering replacing mine with the '06 seat (I'm 6'2).

I've been riding with the '06 LOW seat for about year. The problem with that seat is that it's sloped forward and forces the rider into a single, forward position. This was very conducive to 'monkey butt' in hot weather, especially on longer trips, when I needed to move off the sweet spot for comfort sake.

I sent the seat to Sargent Cycle Products to have the seat "leveled", recovered, and trimmed to match the red paint. I got the seat back today and put about 250 mile on it. WOW... what a difference. I can now sit anywhere on the rider platform in comfort. The 'leveling' of the seat and the black CARBON FX covering eliminated the sliding forward problem and broadened the butt contact area in the back portion of the riders platform.

They're having a special during November, no shipping charges and 15% discount on custom seat work. I've used their products on several other bikes in the past and currently run their seat on my '06 FJR. They make a very good product and their customer service has always been outstanding.

I just got an '07 and ordered an '06 seat when I picked it up. I'm 6'2" and 34" inseam; the 35" seat height works great for me. I think the dealer charged me $110, or so.

I'd have to vote for the '06 stock seat too. I've owned bikes with Corbins, Sargents, and all manner of stock seats, and the '06 Ulysses seat is the best of the bunch. I can ride all day in comfort, or at least until my bad knee starts aching, then I have to stop. My rear end is never my limiting factor.

I sent my seat to this Guy: http://greatdaytoride.com/Home_Page.php
I had read about him in the Rider Magazine.

I have not gotten the seat back yet.

There is no seat that will fit everyone. Thats obvious as 85% of the folks think the stock 06 is the best seat around. Some think it sucks. So asking anyone which seat is best is like asking some one which bike is best or which color. Why not ask questions that have an answer like where did the universe begin.

Keep us posted on the seat mod, I've been thinking of going this route -- he lives in the same town that I do, and I knew him and his wife a little before he started the seat business.

I've liked the Corbin seats I've had, but my only issue with them is that they are typically dished out, which makes it difficult to move my butt off the seat when strafing the twisties.

I got my seat back from Spencer at GreatDaytoRide seats. I like the feel just setting on it and it is a bit lower... Spencer said it would work in after riding a bit and be a little lower and more comfortable.

I wouldn't be able to give it a test until about April living in central Wisconsin... check back with me then and I can provide more info.
