Years ago I had a Capo, but sold it fearing the worst for Aprilia. Currently I have an 04 BMW RT, It's a great bike, but it's no Capo. I miss the adv tour style, handling, etc. Has anyone come over from a bmw rt, and if so, any regrets?

One of the things you'll probabaly miss on the RT is the weather protection.

The Uly will be easier to service and cheaper to own.

I personally have never ridden any bike as good as the Uly for lond distance riding. It has real long legs and eats miles like not other. However as I mentioned before it does not have the best wind protection, but there are options for windshields out there.

Edit: I did not come over from an RT. I am still a Concours rider, and you can bet when the temps start dropping I'll be on the Connie.

True, the wind protection would not be the same. But as long as I can keep enough wind off me, I have a Heated suit. My Capo wan't too bad until it was in the lower 30's.

I used to own an 1150GS and a 1200RT. The ULY runs up the miles far better than either of those two, riding comfort is best I've sat on. On cold days you need thermal wear on hot days you don't, on rainy days you need rain gear. On the Uly you can get comfortable with gear changes just like the GS. On the RT hot days cook you. For truely comfortable touring its hard to beat a F150 Lariat. The Uly fits nicely in the back for driving across the plains. You will miss the touring range that all BMWs offer, 7 gallon tank on the RT and better than 50mpg at 75mph. 4.4 gallons is not nearly enought when traveling the fron range of rockies and Utah/Nevada. F150 gets about 20mpg w/35.7 gallons on board. Putting Uly in back is sort of a compromise position for me. Make your own compromises, but it is hard to fault the basic decision to buy the ULY and go from that point.

I've owned a couple of BMW RTs, a GT, and a K1200R. The Uly is the best motorcycle I've ever owned. While you do give up weather/wind protection compared to the RT and GT the situation is much improved with a Parabellum windshield.

...and the Uly is a million times more fun to ride than any BMW. Plus service and parts and cheap, and dealers are plentiful.

Come on in, the water's fine.

Just like my wife did before we were married, my Uly spoke to me in a seductive, intriguing voice that made me jump in head first. If it speaks to you like that, run like hell. It is the evil side tricking you into a relationship from hell. The only good thing is we haven't spoken in over a month (bike and wife). Seems that Buell wanted a new axle installed with the new swingarm, but chose not to ship it. That was two weeks ago. The dealer wouldn't even return my calls this week. I'm starting to think about mounting a motor and wheels to my luggage so I can ride it instead. At least I realize the 2nd most stupid thing I have ever done in my life was selling my KLR. I'll let you figure out the first.

I'm sorry to hear about your troubles. I'm just short of 30,000 extremely enjoyable miles on mine. It's one of the most reliable bikes I've ever owned; and as the miles pile up, it gets closer to being THE most reliable bike I've ever owned.
It also feels better than anything else that I've ridden.
While I had a few reservations about the Uly when I first Demo'd one, the bike has proven to be quite possibly the best bike I've ever owned in 38 years of riding.

I've owned 4 oilhead RT's. For a total of over 180,000 miles and two of the 11,000 mi Iron Butt Rallys. I now have a ST-1300A and the Uly. The Uly is a lot more fun to ride than the ST but when it comes to a 1000 mi/day I'll take the ST,

Unfortunately, in today's world, phone calls don't quite get things done like certified letters do. That way you document everything. I'd send one to your dealer, cc: to Buell Customer Service and I'd imagine that would get things moving nicely.

I've actually got a good dealer (not my local) so I'm not interested in harassing them. The slow part is on the Buell side while my dealers is waiting for parts and instructions from them since it was out of the ordinary warranty work. They are generally pretty busy and very pro Buell so not returning my call was the least of my worries. I just want the bike to be right for once in it's life.

JMH, I had to have a rear axle replaced when the wheel bearing disintegrated. At the time (early August) the axles were on back order. My bike sat at the dealer the entire month of August waiting for an axle.

Not looking to start a war, but when I posted on the board that I had been waiting 3 weeks for an axle and that the dealer told me they ordered but hadn't received the part, someone responded: "If your dealer has been waiting 3 weeks on ANY part from Buell, someone is feeding you a line of pure unadulterated bullshit." It was no BS. After waiting over 2 hours on the phone to speak with Buell CS, I was kindly informed that the axles were in fact listed as being on back order. The dealer had been telling me the truth all along. Imagine that, Buell was actually the problem, not the dealer. It sounds like in your case that Buell may still be having a problem with supply.

Thanks for the heads-up on the axles. It's been in for a month and a half now so I guess I shouldn't expect it anytime soon.
