So after about 5 broken latches I removed the weatherstripping and haven't had a problem - until now. I opened a side case and noticed one of the "decklehalters" - those little wires on the sides that keep the bag from opening more than 90 degrees was broken. A couple days later, with the bag open and empty, the other one let go and the lid just fell open to 180 degrees (with no other apparent damage)

I'm looking to replace the parts with OEM stuff but until then I thought I would just put in a length of parachute cord.
Anyone have any idea how to remove the fittings? If there is a recessed nut or allen fitting, I can't find it. Is it like a rivet/grommet that was pressed into place? Appreciate any input

I have no input but the same problem. One in each bag, so far. A broken latch on the elastic thingy inside too. I'm currently waiting on a warranty claim for these. It will be four weeks waiting soon. It was submitted on the 8th of last month. I just got home from the dealership to check on it. How long should I wait before contacting Buell customer service?

I think 4 weeks is plenty to wait. And although Buell CS has always been helpful - it's really a Hepco-Becker issue.

I'm impatient. I bit the bullet and bought and replaced my own fan rather than wait weeks for a warranty repair. Same goes for these bags. I just got done removing one "decklehalter". I don't know the correct term, but the retaining hardware is like a rivet. On the internal end the shaft is split into 4 pieces and each segment is bent out at 90 degrees, forming kind of a starburst pattern. I was able to feed a narrow slot headed screwdriver into the honeycomb and gently unbend the pieces enough where I could coax the hardware out without damage to the case. It's definitely not designed to be reusable. I will replace the original hardware with a small bolt, washers and lock washers - I think there is just enough room to maneuver. 'Cause if it happened once (well, twice actually) it will probably happen again

Replace that thing with a metal lid hinge. About $2.50 each at Home Depot. http://www.hardwaresource.com/Store_ViewProducts.a sp?Cat=1125

Beauty! Actually, I was thinking more along the lines of a metal fishing leader.

I used picture hanging wire on mine. I broke the plastic OEM thingies too... The wire works great.

When mine finally breaks I'm going to Gobi's or the aluminum HB sides, top loaders.
