I'm thinking about buying a new ulysses. I know some dealers that still have some 07 models and at a great price. But would you wait and get the 08 models with the new engine, front shocks, heated grips and increased steering. WHAT DO YOU THINK !!

You are joking right? The 08' is the only choice. No timing and no tps, plus all the other refinements.

I recently bought an '07, and have put just under 5000 miles on it. I needed to buy it when I did, knowing that I might wish that I could have waited for an '08.
I'd say if you don't NEED to buy right now, wait for the '08. All the improvements are relatively minor, but could add up to a significant increase in owner satisfaction.
I'd love to upgrade, but will hold on to what I've got now-- the '07 is still a great bike !

Some dealers still have leftover 06s,you could get it for nothing now.

My experience and opinion almost exactly match Florida_lime's.

You can drive yourself nuts with this stuff. Who knows? Next year there may be an XB1350X or 1125X!

I waited and will buy the '08. I will be happy for a year. Then the 09s will come out with HDTV windshield, ice dispenser AND titanium pushrods - all for $11k FLAT!! A Pretender no more!!! I get depressed just thinking about it. Maybe I should get a V-strom.. they NEVER get better!

"Some dealers still have leftover 06s,you could get it for nothing now."

Every time I hear something like this I cringe a little. Many dealers have '06s, and most are already 'almost' giving them away. People think "Since it is a couple years old now, I can really get it discounted."

Dealers can only go so low on the price before they are losing money. They paid a certain price for the bike originally, and unless there is some kind of factory incentive, how much would you as a dealer,
want to loose to sell the bike ?

Avoid 06 no matter what. I would still vote for 08 over 07

Anyone know when to expect the '08s to start hitting the dealer floors? (I am waiting for an '08) : )

I love my 07, the software makes it possible to do your own service on the tps. I wish the 07 had the steering of the 08 but hey you learn to work around it. I would of waited for the 08 if I would have know they would be out so soon.

Engine changes and steering head changes deem an '08 a far better buy than 06 or 07 in my book, but I'll wait until 09 for the 1125x and throw my 06 in the trash.

If it was me, today having this "problem" I'd wait for the '08. I totally love my '07, but the lean surge is annoying. And heated grips? Yes! Also you'll have the option of getting the faster Blue version.

(oh there is a dilemma: the GF LOVES the blue, but I think I prefer the black still...)

Always enjoy getting the latest refinements in a motorcycle model and surely the '08 changes are significant but if you want the latest model your gonna pay full boat....I have enjoyed buying one or two year old bikes over the years at substantial savings over dealer prices and never look back at not having the latest model....for some odd reason Uly's take a pretty substantial hit in price after they roll off the showroom floor....picked up my '06 this past spring for $7500 w/ 1k miles on the clock and could not be happier with the bike now that I have rolled off a quick 5k....regardless of all the chatter on this board about the '06 issues it is a solid bike thru and thru and if an '06 becomes available at a great price then I would go for it with no hesitation.

The Uly has been since inception one of lifes great motorcycles that is just plain fun to ride and the '08 continues to impress and Buell has listened to the customer. IF money is no issue for you than by all means get the '08 and have a ball, but have no concerns that and '06 or '07 are somehow unworthy or inferior.

I would echo what Firstbatch has to say. When I look down the list of changes, they are all fine improvements and I'm glad that the bike continues to be refined but for me, I don't think it would justify the thousands of dollars of difference there will be between the model years. Some of it depends on the kind of riding you will be doing. For example, slow riding in traffic may make some of the 2008 changes more attractive as the bike is likely to run cooler and better at these speeds.

With the savings you can pay for a lot of add-ons that you will likely want to purchase any way (luggage, tank bags, better mirrors, etc.) and still have enough to pay for TPS resets every 10,000 miles.

Suddenly owning three Buells now, my advise would just to buy 07 now, and then 08 when you find one to buy. You may find though that 07 is all you need.

I would not worry about buying an '07, especially if the dealer is offering incentives. Even compared to the changes on the '08, it is a great bike.

What if the 08 turns out to have the little quirks of the 06? I'd buy the 07 or the 09 after the new engine and fuel management system has a chance to be refined. I've got the 06, but am going to wait to trade up to the Uly 1125!

Yeah; I've only got 23,500 totally trouble free miles on my '06.

Oh yes, avoid it at all costs

Aside from the tires, it should cost you less than $200 to convert an '06 to an '07.

Airbox - $30
ECM Flash - $0
Fork Springs $50
07 Seat - $90

I'd be willing to bet that the price difference on the '06 versus the '07 will be pretty favorable if you can live with the 616s long enough to wear them out. I don't love them, but I sure didn't hate them enough to throw them out...

It's my fourth Buell, I love Buells.

I wrote that the day it left me stranded with a broken belt.

Two weeks after it left me stranded with a broken clutch cable 15k.

The clutch went out at 4k, the fan, I went from good tires on 06 for dirt that wobbled on highway to smooth highway tires that are bad on dirt. I could list the others but suffice to say much of was disappointing for me was addressed on 2007 improvements.

I did 23k on a Firebolt in 12 months no problems, the 2006 Ulysses has not been a lucky charm for me. Will I buy another one, Yes, I think the 08 I may have just got a lemon but definitely was not the bike I wanted to trust in the middle of nowhere.

07' also has an upgraded oil pump, and different TPS assembly.

avoid the 2006 at all cost???

I own an 2006 Ulysses and I wouldn't trade it for either the 07or 08 models because it's been trouble-free for 11,500 miles and I'm comfortable with that! Now I'm not saying that I don't like some of the new improvements in the newer models, I'm just saying that mine has been "rock solid" and it's a keeper!

Any news, (rumors permitted, encouraged even!) about when the 08s will reach the dealers? I am trying to coordinate sale of current bike with purchase the 7+1 (aka 6+2) model. Two dealers tell me (yesterday) they don't know. Buell HQ said the same. I can't wait any longer for facts, I need some theories...

Well, for the past 4 or 5 years at least, the new bikes show up at the dealers sometime between mid-August and early September.

08's are already in prod (except 1125).

We were told at Homecoming that they expect to be shipping before the end of the month which is the same approx schedule as HD. I would guess that unlike HD, all dealers won't however have all models by then.

I'd wait for the 08, especially if they've fixed the low speed surging. With that said, the 06 and 07 are great bikes, too though.
