Court, DaveS did the fly, buy, ride thing from his dealership. The whole "DaveS Ride your Uly to the UP" deal.
I did it, I *did* get my bike earlier, then met up in East Troy for the tour, then ride... Others picked their bike up at the right time/place.
I think that was a good compromise. Maybe the factory could just do a weekly tour for local shops to bring new customers through? |

Basically the major problem I see is the fact that the dealers are independantly owned and thus the financial bean counters refuse to carry parts in-stock. My dealer is somewhat positive on providing service and sales for Buells but they still don't stock parts.
If you can fix that problem then things would be much better for owners and potential buyers.
Maybe Buell could provide the dealers with parts on a consignment basis to alleviate the financial burden on the dealers until they actually sell the part? I know that presents a whole new set of problems for the Buell Company but I think it would certainly help grow the market.

That's been done for years and it's one of the best Buell publications there is. Problem is getting folks, in some dealerships, to read the thing.

Court are the tech bulletins available to us, the non dealer people? I would like to see bulletins specific to my bike. You work for Buell, you are one lucky individual. I would love a job in the bike industry as would many others here. |

Guys thanks for all the information again.. But back in april I trading in my 06 ulysses with 800 miles for a new 06 V-rod streetrod. Well to make a long store short. I had the v-rod about 2 weeks and totaled it in a curve. I got lucky an didn't get hurt just mess up my helmet an jacket some. Now at the harley davidson shop that I traded with still has my 06 ulysses that I did some work to. Like Drummer exhaust, Race ECM, 07 air box, K&N filter, put in different front fork spring. They haven't sold it yet. See I order a new 08 ulysses with the Harley Davidson shop. Well here is the kicker they call me yesterday and price me my 06 ulysses around 4000.00 cheaper than a new one and cheaper than what they gave me for it when I trader it in.. WHAT HOW YOU DO!!!!HELP |

The tech bulletins are not, but many slip past and are collected somewhere here on Badweb.
I am not an employee of Buell or HD and have no authority to speak, make representations or act on their behalf.
I'm not even sure who "they" are.
I started to say I don't "work" for Buell. . . but that may not be entirely accurate.
The good news is . . I've been quitting for the last 12 years.

I call bullcrap on the parts issue. There are thousands of shiny parts available at any HD dealership in stock and ready for immediate installation.
Most of those are installed at the time of purchase, and financed with the bike. The rest are mostly impulse buys during a visit to the dealer. It is important to have those items there at the time to make the sale.
If your fan dies, or your wheel bearings go bad, well, you arent going to change your mind if you want them or not, you need them. Dealers arent stupid, if they were, they wouldnt stay in business very long. |

That all depends on why you traded in your '06 in the first place.
Were there issues with the bike for you that have been resolved with the '08s, or were you just wanting a change ?
If you traded your '06 in with 800 miles, I would recommend getting your old bike back ....
....in case you change your mind again.  |

I'm glad that you are ok. I'm curious about how you totaled the vrod. Did it have anything to do with the difference in how it handled from the Uly? |

I traded because I thought the V-rod would be more fun at the dragstrip and would still have fun on the street, but was I wrong. The v-rod streetrod was just too heavy and too long it didn't handle the curves good at all. About the wreck the ulysses is a great handling bike and that was what I was in use too. With the v-rod I was on a little old road that I new really well. I was going in an out of the curves pretty good just trying to get the feel of the bike. I was heading for one of the last curves at the bridge. I was setting up for the curve I swung out and then in, about a half way in the curve I was leaning in pretty hard and the bike just didn't seem like it want to go any more. The last thing I remember was hitting the front and back brake at the same time to slow down a little bit, but the bike just seemed to set up and off the bank she went. I didn't think the bike was totaled but when I started walking down the little bank there was all of broken up concrete pipes that someone had thrown out and the bike landed on them. Busted up the motor case and frame pretty good.. |

Speedcrazy, I did the opposite of you. I bought the V-Rod first and although it was a great straight line bike, I couldn't get cornering down. I read a few posts on what it takes but it was counter intuitive.
I traded for an 06 Uly last June. I live about 25 minutes from deals gap and lots of other great rides. Get your Uly back! |
