I was attaching some bags to the bike when I noticed some oil on the swing arm. At first I thought the oil cap was loose but it was snug. Then I noticed oil on the inside of the left rear footpeg. There I also found what seems to be an overflow tube. I seen overflow tubes for fuel but not for oil. Is that normal and where does the tube come from? | ||

I do not know if you have the same problem but I had exactly the same things on my bike. Turns out I had overfilled the oil. I found this out when I took it into the Dlr and they found the air filter was now sitting in a pool of oil. It was blowing out the exact location you describe. Have you filled your oil recently? | ||

Have you filled your oil recently No, I'm about to do the 1000 mile service on it. I bought it two weeks ago, checked the oil and seemed to be OK. I don't know if heat would make it expand to that point. I did put a K&N air filter in yesterday and noticed a little bit of fluid there. | ||

Make sure you are checking your oil per the manual. Hot engine, on sidestand, screw dipstick all the way in, if memory is correct. Cold engine, bike upright or not screwing in dipstick would all cause you to overfill without realizing it. I have also heard (not verified) that running at the high level is very close to the point of spitting oil. Running the oil level more in the middle of the range might make sense, then, as long as your bike isn't using oil too much. I have not noticed what you describe on my bike, and am running the level just below the full mark when checked per owners manual procedure. I also don't run high revs a lot, though, and that would probably make it worse. | ||

I use to do mile long wheelies on my old KLR, oil would spew into the airbox, through the cc breather and then down the right side drain of the air box  |
