So, this may be redundant,

But, I'm getting ready to take the plunge and pick up one of these badboys.

Should I pretty much plan on paying MSRP?

I'll need to unload my X1. Are the Dealerships pretty fair when it comes to trade ins?

Sell the X1 privately. You will do much better. As for current Uly prices I don't know...bought mine back in Sept '05 when you were lucky to find a dealer with one.

I got $500 off list on a new 2007 in December. I'd think you should be able to get one for something less than list.

Stone Mountain Buell near Atlanta is a board sponsor and is one of the few really good Buell dealers. Definitely talk to those guys before you buy.

Maybe out the door with some extras thrown in. Definitely not for just the bike. The local dealer here has at least 6 and I think it's closer to 8. I think it is about half and half '06/'07. I think he is still asking MSRP which explains his inventory. Depends on your local TT+L. Ours is very low so throwing that in is usually a no-brainer. It's hard to get a decent trade in on any bike, so you are always better off trying to sell yourself. Problem is you may have to wait a while to sell your bike depending on the market for it.

If you go to Stone Mountain, ask for Philip Morris "Smokescreen" here on BadWeB! He used to be in the parts department, just started on the sales floor in the last week or two.

You will have good support from Stone Mountain. Their GM is excellent and a Buell fan.

I would look for a lightly used one first. Resale is low on Buells, so let another take the hit if you can. Maybe someone who found out the Uly was just too close to the stars for a short inseam.
I was able to find an '06 last Sept with 1050mi for mid $8's at H-D Ocala FL.
It was only 3 months old at the time.
I figure I saved $2k-$3k easy, and could not tell the bike was not brand new, except that the 1k mil service had already been done and paid for by someone else!
If you just cannot find a good used one, or cannot wait, then buy new. Ocala H-D was advertising new ones for around $10k last fall (+ TT&L of course). Another common deal was to charge MSRP, but throw in the Buell luggage ($1200 for all 3 pieces and mounting).

Ok, While I was leaning towards the 07,

I seem to have found a couple of 06's in the mid 9k price range (brand new).

What would I be missing by going with the 06 vs the 07? And which mods should I have them do/ and how much should they cost to get it up to speed with an 07?

I did the 07 seat, fork springs, airbox, and had the ecm flashed with the 07 data. The fork springs created a minor difference, and the parts are not that expensive, but the labor is what gets you. I probably would NOT do the springs again, or at least not till the 10k service. The 07 seat, airbox, and flash I loved and would do again.

I also wanted the 07 sync tires, so the dealer swapped me for the 06's even, they didn't even charge for any labor. This was a great deal!

The biggest changes I know about:
'07 went to Pirelli Scorpion Sync tires (I got one of these as a replacement for my stock '06 Dunlop rear just last week). No big deal, just buy what you want when the Dunlops wear out.
'07 went to a lower seat (about 1.5"). Depends on your inseam here. I like the '06 taller seat. The stock '07 seat was the "low seat" accessory in '06, so you could still buy the lower '07 seat if you wanted.
'07 went to new fork springs. I believe they were progressive (or more progressive) to try and reduce front end dive under heavy braking. I may consider buying the '07 springs down the road if I have extra cash, but just turned up the preload a bit on my '06 and am happy. The Buell has fantastic adjustable suspension, and the best explanation of how to set it up that I have ever seen in a factory owners manual.
'07 went to a new airbox lid that has bigger air holes on the cooler side of the airbox. There is lots of info on this site about mod'ing the '06 to match, or you can buy the '07 for <$40.
That's the big news I know of. For the money I saved on the lightly used '06, I could buy all the '07 stuff and still be $2k on the good side.
You might not save quite as much by buying a still new '06, but you can save a lot.
Watch out for silly dealer fees and make sure you are comparing out the door prices.
Make sure the dealer runs the VIN in your presence to make sure the recalls are done if applicable (kickstand, Bank Angle Sensor relocation). My '06 was built after the kick stand was fixed, and the BAS is a more recent service bulletin from this spring.

This is not true. The '06 low is lower than the '07 and has a gel pad in it. The '07 is in between the two on height, but offers the best reach to the ground because of the shape change it has over the other two. It is also $100 cheaper than the '06 low.

There were also other changes in '07 to the heads or something because they have different part numbers. There are other minor changes as well that we are slowly finding out about. If I had to do it all over again, I would have waited for the '07. This time of year, they will start coming down in price as well.

One other change on the 07's not mentioned- the 07's have a new oil pump with increased scavenging capacity. This might help reduce oil consumption and actually increase horsepower slightly by keeping the crankcase "drier".
