WTF, where are people measuring inseam from?

Well I would have thought your mother already told you this, but if you really want to know....

The pic below is me with the '06 low seat.

The pic below is me with the '07 seat

M2nc: Maybe I'm dense or blind or both, but I can't really see a difference in the pics between '06 low and '07 seats. Are they supposed to be different?

L_je / Ft_bstrd: LOL, just saw your post...What's "Buelltoberfest"? I have a general idea of what it'd be, but I googled it and got no hits. Is it an actual "rally", or more about BadWeB folks that get together and ride?

IIRC, there are differences in the contours that are hard to see in a photograph. Overall height is about the same. I don't know about the 06 low, but the 07 seat is VERY comfy.

Ponti,

The C3 folks made it up. You can read about it on the first page of the Storm Fronts section.

Ponti - with the 07 seat M2nc can get more of the ball of his foot on the ground. I second Hugh about the 07 seat being more comfortable than the 06 low, especially for a passenger.

Here's the link for Buelltoberfest.

Thanks to all for the info! With any luck, I'll have my Uly before October for sure. Gotta sell the wife on the idea...

I'd love to head down to GA and meet up with everybody. Got to get a Buell first...Don't want to embarrass myself trying to keep up in the twisties on the Sportster!

To sell your wife, take her to the dealer ON the sportster then take her for a test ride on the Uly. Trust me on this one. After coming off a Sportster for 40 miles with a friend (we're a lot closer now!) I got on that Uly and it was heaven! I had so much room that I had to hold the grab bars when Carlos hit the brakes or I would slide into him.

We had a Honda Nighthawk and M2 before the Uly came home. Once the Uly was here, I told Carlos he could go ahead and sell the Honda. The Uly is a great bike and I've been able to ride as much as 100 miles without having to stop and get off the bike. That is double what I could have done on either of the other bikes or even on the 06 low seat.

Best of luck and we'd love to see you in October!

Quote "I may get banned but you should at least try a Ducati Multistrada if you can. There was a recent demo day and I did a 20 ride on it. Flat foot and fun. Somewhat short in the handlebar reach. Upright sitting position."

As a Multistrada owner I'd say you might feel differently after owning the bike. I have 4000 miles on mine and am not happy with the bike. Pretty poorly designed and a general PITA to own. The Ulysses came out a month after I bought my Ducati, I wish I'd waited a month before I bought my bike. I've ridden two Ulysses and been lurking here for a while. I'd be happy to trade my bike for a Ulysses

Nobody is going to be run out of town on a rail over suggesting that somebody test ride a couple of different bikes before making a $10K+ commitment.

The seat height of the MTS is only about 1/2" lower than the Uly '07 seat. But, for a short person, the Duc feels much smaller.

I wrote up my thoughts on the two bikes over at multistrada.net, and here is the link
http://www.multistrada.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9 266
the link may not work, as the MTSnet requires that you register, even if you just want to lurk! let me know if the link doesn't function, and I'll simply paste my [lengthy] comments into this threat.

Goose, after riding the two, would dare say that the MTS is a bit more of a "chick bike" compared to the Uly?

J,
Remember that the Uly seat height is with a 180# rider and full of fuel, oil, etc. I have lowered my Uly 1.5" and still do not have the reach to the ground that I had on the MTS. As I said above, I could flatfoot the MTS and don't come close with my Uly. That's with a 32" inseam as measured by the length of jeans I buy, no cuff.

J, Regarding your link, I went ahead and registered. Otherwise the "page is not available". I AM interested in your thoughts and evaluation. I have ridden a 1000S and 620 MTS. Not for any long distance but enough that I liked it as a stark contrast to my Uly.

so is the 07 seat you are talking about the normal 07 seat or is there also a 07 low seat? Also will it fit on my 06? Anyone know the price of the 07 seat?

J,

Good writeup. Very fair as far as I could tell with my limited MTS experience. What do you do, write engineering specs or something? :-) I agree especially with your note about suspension adjustability. The Uly wins big there. I'm rather heavy and would probably need to have the MTS forks reworked before any serious riding. Maybe could tune the shock with what they offer.

There is only one 07 seat. It is lower than a a standard 06 seat, but higher than a low 06 seat. The 07 seat is narrower at the front than the 06, which makes it easier to reach the ground. The 07 seat will fit on an 06 bike. I've got one on mine.

The 07 seat is only about $110.

The 06 seat base has two different part numbers on it. I infer that those are the standard and low seat part numbers for 06. The 07 seat base has four part numbers, the two 06 part numbers and two others. I infer that the other two are 07 standard and low seat part numbers. I haven't checked with my dealer to see whether there is a 07 low seat in the parts list. Have you Jlnance?

Gotj - Don't forget there are orange and black seats. I don't know anything about the part numbers, I've always ordered my stuff Appleton and I just call and ask for it.

If you go to http://buell.com/en_us/bikes/ulysses/xb12x/specs.a sp it lists the low profile seat as "N/A", so I really don't think there is an "07 low seat." You can still buy the 06 low seat, and it may be listed in the parts book.

Jlnance, I DID forget and stand corrected. I haven't seen the base of a low saddle but I have some friends that have it so will check the part numbers the next time we ride together. Could it be that there is another base just for the low seat and that's why they needed the spacer blocks to protect the ECM?

Gotj asked "What do you do, write engineering specs or something?"

Unfortunately, yes, but only on occasion. Writing specs is one of the most mindnumbing activities I can think of, but not nearly as bad as reviewing specs!

When I measured seat height on the MTS and Uly, I was on my knees, with a tape measure, and using my left hand to hold the bike up off of the side stand. The seat heights are within a 1/2" of each other, and each bike weighs in at 500#...but throw a leg over each, and you'll find they are worlds apart.

I'll have to duplicate the pics that M2NC posted. For absurdity, I'll even toss in a pic of what my feet look like with the '06 stock seat. With the '06 stock seat, when I sat on the bike, my head was almost 6" higher than when I was merely standing on my own two feet! HA!

These pictures show the difference of the seats and why the reach is different when on the bike.

Closest is the 07, then the 06 Low, then the 06 standard

06 Low

07 Standard
