I'm going to chime in here and say that I'd like a shorter windscreen.

Hey, anything to get the topic off of a ukelele. And, no, I didn't follow the ukelele link, so I don't really know what's going on.

Back to the windscreen...I'd like to pick up an extra stock windscreen, and re-tap the mounting holes so that the screen sits about an inch lower; this is to place the wind at my neck, instead of having it collapse around my helmet, which causes a bit of an acoustic racket(1)(2).

I might also consider a ZG tall screen, as the airstream may totally clear the top of my helmet (again, see footnote 1).

WHAT? Noisy? What? Earplugs, you say? Yup, got em. They even came in useful today at work. The fire alarms went off at work this morning...before wandering to the not-so-nearest exit, I stuffed my earplugs in, and was able to stroll past those mind jarring sirens with little consequence...nice.

(1) Being 5'6", the Uly offers a great deal of wind protection. The Buell Tall Windscreen, while looking like a logical choice, rattled my brain so much, I had to remove it at the very next interstate exit.

(2) Strangely enough, the '06 seat is more quiet than the '07 seat...I bet this is the first time somebody has commented on how "quiet the seat is", aye? The '06 seat moves me upwards so that the airstream impinges on my neck, and not my helmet, or shoulders...awsome for ventilation, but bad for riding through a shower of auto glass. But, alas, I don't have the confidence to ride 2-up in the dirt with the stock '06 seat, so what can ya do?

I've got a quiet seat too. It just doesn't smell that pleasant.

Seriously, if you are looking to clean up the airflow, consider the Laminar Lip. You could mount fairly low as to not actually raise the overall height of the windshield, but just redirect some air.

I found out the B.A.W. works well on a warm day. I have tested many cool days. It was 80F today. The air flow comes from under the lower edge, up front of fuel tank slope. It feels like a defroster in a car on High fan. The flow is consistent from about 40 mph up. It is cool fresh air and is not too much air to be uncomfortable for wearing contact lenses.

With the '06 low seat, the top edge of the windshield is right at the height of the top of my helmet opening. There is no buffeting at all. The only air movement felt at all is that described above.

The shield is as wide as the bars. It covers the mirrors and has cut outs for the hand guards as it wraps back to match the contour of the instrument cluster. It blocks all of the wind from my arms and shoulders. I have worn my perforated summer gloves at 40F and my hands stayed perfectly warm where I normally would have warn my winter gloves.

The 3/16 clear plexiglass is mounted by placing the fly screen over the windshield, slightly slotting the six holes in the flyscreen for the 3/16 screws. Where the two top rubber mount holes are, the windshield and instrument panel are drilled and two 1/4 bolts are used. There are two aluminum brackets screwed to the windshield and anchored to the top screws of the handguard brackets.

Once I decide where the bars will reside, I have plans to construct two upper rod type brackets from the cross bar up about 8" or so with washers and rubber grommets through the windshield. I had it up to 105 mph and all is still intact, it does flex back however, oh, and it does take more throttle to push it fast.

I will get back soon with more pictures with rider in place and ride impressions.

What in the hell is "Tint Paint"? Where can I find some here in the USA? That's what I want to do to my Uly. I like the size of the stock screen, I just want to make it look a little sexier.

You can also just apply window tint to the inside of a clear windshield. It can be had in many colors now.

The VHT night shades is what you want. I used it on some tail-lights about 12 years ago and it lasted the 7 years and 120,000 miles I owned the car without every wearing or washing off. It still looked good when I traded it in. Works great on any plastic or lexan and the more coats you use, the darker it gets. Be careful though because the first few coats will really be transparent and you will make it run if try to over-apply.

is there an official zero gravity website, i hate buying from third parties even if the price is the same, manufacturer ftw.

I think I am gonna go with the ZG. seems like a nice enough shield. hopefully it will do what i want for half the price of the other shields i was looking at, thanks again for all the feedback.

Do you tint in the inside or outside of the shield with the tint spray?

Cheers,

I had my stock shield autographed at homecoming last year. I have the cee bailey +2.5. and I like it. If I were 2" taller, my helmet would be in quiet air.
Guess I have gotten used to riding standards or naked bikes with small shields, even in the upper 20's. Dang, I am chatty tonight.

Well I disclosed the actual big ass windshield to those attending MBIV.

Some were scared, some were astonished, many were curious. Test ridden by another BadWebber, who along with others said that it was cold while riding late in the evening.

It does work as prescribed, it takes some getting used to, but never the less most of its functions are better than I had hoped for. Tools have been at the ready to cut or trim it for the sake of adjusting its mammoth size, but it is working out great as it is. There is 0 buffeting and very little traffic wind effect, even from trucks. The only thing that has made it shake is a head wind at an angle. It also smoothed out the mirrors.

Only two thing are suffering because of it. On the Dragon it is distracting to pick and lock on your visual cues for tight switch backs as the BAS swings back and forth. Also there will be little or no trail riding behind the BAW as it does not allow a rider to stand up.

Overall it works great, but it turned my corvette bike into an SUV. Would I trade sport for this comfort......you bet I would on a cold day, rainy day, and or for a long bug bustin' trip! It is coming off for sporting around for the summer though.

The best comment I heard (of many) "Look at that fu*#ing thing! It's fu*#ing huge!" (but then everybody wants to hear that at least once in their lives)
