Folks: I did a search of the list and I was wondering if there are any new tank bags out for the Uly? I talked with the manufacturer that made the one that was designed with the buckles (I forget which one it was)but they no longer offer that model. The one Buell makes is too large for my needs but I was just wondering if anyone has found another alternative. I just need the bag to put my handheld cb and autocom unit in for when I go riding with my fiance' or my annual ten day cross country trips with my two riding friends.I am looking for a belated Christmas present for myself.
Thanks

I just got a Chase Harper bag for mine - it's relatively flat and won't interfere with seeing the instrumentation or GPS. I'll post a picture soemtime this weekend.

Bagster (http://www.bagster.com) has a couple offerings. All of their bags connect to their tank covers, and I think there are 9 different bag options that will work with the XB airbox cover. (http://www.bagster.com/en/moto/catalogue-moto.php?id_moto=3949)

I really like the look of their stuff, but am making do with the OEM tankbag at the moment.

Good luck!

Also, if you find a bag that can use the same kind of 3-point clips that the OEM bag does, I have an extra set of mounting straps you are welcome to.

Personally I thought my Buell Deluxe looked too small when I first got it. But I pack all kinds of stuff in there daily, and I ride with the sidecases 99%. It holds bungees, couple tools, flashlights, spare gloves, hat, wallet, keys, wheel lock, maps, whatever mail I need to mail, rain cover, spare bulbs and small parts, and I'll bet there's stuff in there I've forgotten about!

I even found a pocket I didn't know about the other day!

You might take a second look at it Pso, in its unexpanded condition it doesn't obstruct the instruments, fits great and rides solid, says "Buell" on the sides. On a 10-day trip it could prove very practical.

And I'll bet your fiance could fill it up pretty quickly for even a day ride!

I have the Buell Deluxe. It's a little on the large side, but the more I use it the more I find myself putting stuff in there that usually went in the top case.

Take a look here:

http://www.marseeproducts.com/

On their Homepage you'll see one of their products on a Uly. I just purchased a 20 Liter Teardrop tank bag at a at a very good great price as they are discontinuing that product. Good people to deal with, a very nice product, and make in the USA.

The Cortech "super mini" with strap is very small and fits quite nicely. Good for a bottle of water extra gloves and not much else. A friend uses one on his Lightning and it seemed to be all he wanted. Come to think of it everyone usually bums a spot in the Uly hardcases for their rain suits, sweaters, lunch...I even hauled a battery through "The Dragon" to rescue a broken Buell!NUTS

I read once about a guy who duct taped 3 inch disk magnets to the underside (inside) of the fake gas tank / air cover so he could use a magnetic bag....I was thinking of trying that. anyone else heard of this "fix"?

Try neodynium magnets. They are very very strong magnets. I get them off used Sonic electric tooth brushes when the brushes get old. Use small magnets to hold receipts to the fridge. You can't believe how strong they are. So strong that they are a beatch to peel of the fridge door.

Nutsosane,

Where is your friend anchoring the straps for the Cortech? I'm going to have to take that Chase Harper bag back because I can't seem to find appropriate places to secure the straps...

I haven't seen the bag, but depending on the straps you may be able to melt small holes in them and use the tank cover mounting bolts a la the Buell bags.

I use the neodynium magnet method with medium sized tank bag. WOrks pretty darn good, except for the duct tape coming off every once and a while. I'm thinking of epoxyin' them to the inside of the airbox to eliminate that problem.

Here's a link to purchase them if you're interested:

They're not too expensive, very strong, and the company ships pretty darn quick.

I was thinking about the epoxy until I read about Chad's "face slapper" incident
http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/250394.html?1168364653 I wondered if the epoxy blocked too much of the magnetic field to be effective for Chad. I've had very good success Devcon Plastic Welder on other projects http://www.inventiondb.com/browse.php?cubeid=691 and the stuff seems to be less dense than JB Weld. Wonder what goo Chad chose?

Has anyone experienced what magnets can do to your credit/fuel cards if placed very close to one, such as in/or too near your magnetic tank bag keepers?

Old Mil, He wrapped the front strap around the headstock and the rear portion mounted around the shock body IIRC. The bag has a neoprene base that makes very good contact with the airbox cover, it was very well attatched without the straps! Some might want to install nicer mounting but I feel that's what the "deluxe" tankbag is for. NUTS

I have a Buell Deluxe because I waited for three months for the original Buell Standard that I ordered which hadn't arrived, so on the eve of my trip to ID in July I bought a Tourmaster which is a darn nice tank bag and almost short enough for the XB top cover.

In the hour I spent trying to figure a way to wrap the straps around that massive XB frame w/o interference I gave up. I had things to pack and stow and the next morning I left on the first tank bagless tour in 30 yrs.

The Deluxe may well be too big to some, but the contours fit the XB perfectly. The mounting system is minimal and works. The handlebar switchgear doesn't hit it, you can see the panel, the utility is outstanding. Even if I had made up a custom strap for the Tourmaster the shape would never have worked on the XB as well.

The Tourmaster now replaces my ancient Eclipse for my other bikes with conventional tanks.

The ONLY drawback to the Buell Deluxe is that I can't see enough Barricade Orange anymore...

Sometimes universal isn't worth the trouble when there's an excellent specific option. IMHO of course!
