Having a blast on some single track today in the Capital Forest outside of Olympia - going up a fairly steep hill, I dumped it - my clutch lever snapped (fortunately I'm able to two finger shift still) and my left front blinker got crushed - and I rolled off the bike - so soaked and muddy but all and all it was more funny than anything.

Not a huge deal but I'm wondering where to get the blinker (the clutch lever I found on american sports bike's website).

I keep forgetting how high up the uly is - it's not like riding a small dirt bike that's for sure.

Good news is the blinkers are really cheap. Any good Buell dealer will have them; they're almost if not totally the same on all XB's it appears.

Yeah it's extra work because it's big and has way more power than needed, but aren't these bikes a hoot on real trails?! It just blows guys away on small dual purpose bikes when I roll up over the top on single track nasty hills. They can't believe I'm in there!

If you don't have a Buell dealer close by, call Dave S (sponsors section under Appleton HD/Buell.) He will have you a new set in a couple of days.

Did you get an OEM clutch lever from American Sport Bike? I'm thinking you probably have an aftermarket one now (CRG?)

Yes, from American Sport Bike. I'm a newbie dirt rider - just rode a few times on a friends 250 Yami in the past.

I just need to remember to keep moving and be careful of the get-y-up with all that power. It's a blast in the dirt!

I am on my third clutch lever and second turn signal. Quick and easy to fix!

Single track at Capital forest!!

Wow, some of those trails are pretty rough on a big bike like a Uly. I've dirt biked there for more than 30 years.

Been wanting to ride mine to the top of Capital Peak on the dirt roads.

Great place for a banzai downhill blast on mountain bikes also. (Capital peak to Bordeau camp)

Yeah, the capital forest isn't really made for a bike like the Uly - hell I rode my mountain bike just a few summers ago on it and had a hard time getting through - very steep and thin in spots - and this time of year - lots of flooding - so it's slow going and lots of mud and fun.

My buddy who grew up on dirt bikes led the way with his Bonnie (no kidding) and he was scraping it everywhere but had a huge grin on his face. My other buddy with his GS and Toura-tech Panniers could almost scrape both sides of them on trees and ruts the trail was so thin. I don't know how he managed to get that heavy beast up and down those trails.

We started the ride right where the trail tunnels below the road near Waddle Creek Road, which this time of year means there's about 12-16 inches of water running through it - so we started off with very wet and cold feet (36 degrees yesterday). But still fun blasting through the water in a huge metal pipe basically on your bike.

Lots of puddles iced over and it was also fun crunching your bike through the ice and figuring out how deep the water is as your driving.

I had the problems not grinding through the endless amounts of fallen branches (we had huge wind storms out here last week the trials looks like viet cong traps) but with the deep wet gravel - just a skill and confidence thing - the bike is great - I just need to get better at it - trail riding is WAY different than pushing yourself through the twisties.

Today I hosed the bike down - it was covered w/mud - it almost looks better that way.

Yeah - can't wait to get up through the forest roads in the cascades - this bike rocks!

I've snapped one clutch lever and one brake lever. The clutch lever was 500 miles from home, and there wasn't a Harley dealer in the entire state that had one. Fortunately a little (ok, a lot of) scotch tape got me home.

Last time, I cut both levers down to 2-finger length and coated them with Plasti Dip.

I'll let you know if it helps next time I drop the bike. : )

If you're looking for a cheaper alternative to buying the entire clutch or brake assembly, I'm told the 99-01 Yamaha R1 levers are the same. You can find those cheap on eBay.
