Well its getting close to needed a new rear. Who would be the best at doing this task? The dealer or some other shop? If I bring in new tires to the dealer are they going to be bitches about changing them instead of buying from them? Thanks in advance. | ||

Depends on a lot, Snowscum. In my case, I had a plug in mine and needed a new tire now. 616's being scarce, a local dealer had one and was more than happy to mount it to my wheel about $200... A local mom-and-pop aftermarket shop where I had placed an order for the rear tire still couldn't find one and mine was back-ordered. I recalled that a semi-local Cycle Gear (30 mi away) had a pair of 616's back in May when I bought my bike. I called, they were still on the rack. The tire was not only on sale (about $125) but they were running a *** road hazard warranty *** special for free. If I rode out and got a puncture in the parking lot, it was covered. After a certain amount of tire wear, it will be pro-rated. Sold on that place. Since my mom and pop store had gone out of its way to try to help me out I paid them to mount and balance the tire and they did an excellent job. Either of these choices were $70-80 less than the dealer quotes. And my dealer has messed up my bike before... Others have reported no problems with bring-ins to their dealer. In my case even if they had no problem with it the labor rate @ $80/hour far exceeds the service I got from my local shop for a $15 mount/balance. Crap shoot. | ||

Three tire spoons from motion pro and then you are the pro! If you take your time and use some plastic wheel protectors then you can DIY! | ||

No sexual connotations here but don't forget the 5 gallon bucket and some lube, makes it a lot easier for your first time.  | ||

There is a hex to hex adapter in your in your tool kit. You just need a torque wrench, a socket, a way to lift the bike and some anti-seize. It is a little tough the first time but it is also rewarding being self sufficient. | ||

I fortunately have 2 independent shops that will mount and balance any tires I bring them for $10 per wheel, wheel off. I pull the wheels at home and run them up to watch the dude work. I was seriously considering tackling this myself but $10 per wheel is just too fair. NUTS | ||

Gets really hot and sounds like crap. Lifter noise or piston slap. It gets louder everyday I ride it. And it pings more and more. The more I ride it the worse it gets. | ||

I know what you mean but one of the other pinging ULy's got through and he is seems very confident with the sincerity and ability of the contact mentioned in the pm. I think you might have some internal issues due to pinging. You are under warranty and have played by the rules so you are entitled to a factory fix. The guys at the top are aware there are a few problems out here and they really want to fix them! I am being hard headed about it and am running extremely late in order to solve my problem. When/if mine goes south I will pull her apart put her back the way I want it. Until then, please get a fix and let me know what they say. They can't really collaborate with me, and I understand that, because I do my own work and they have to go through the correct channels to keep everyone in the kingdom happy. Thanks, Davo |
