Let's get back to the root of the question... The $899.95 paid was a great deal, and no other combination (that didn't involve duct tape mounts) was going to cost you only half that amount!
By the time you bought any mounts to speak of and added the real costs of comparable pieces you were putting together, you could not build your own system for anywhere near half the price! Looking at the actual cost you were going to pay for the Buell bags as "Jeffs" recommended, rather than full retail would have helped you come to the same conclusion far quicker.
You wrote, "$750, compared to $1125 for the full 3-bag system from Buell.", and then you bought for $899.95 which means you "overpaid" 20% at most, but now you're not hunting for mounts no matter how cheap you could have found them, and you saved more than the $200 you thought you could...

The real root of the problem was $1125 is way too much to pay for 3 bags. And the real solution? I didn't pay that much. This is probably the last question I ask the general Badweb public, it's not worth the drama. |

In my view, the correct response when someone takes the time to respond and offer alternatives and/or advice is... "Thank you."  Assuming that folks are intending to insult your intelligence is pretty sucky. |

The BADWEB seems to be a great and informed bunch of guys willing to share. That takes time. Time in my world cost a lot of cash. I don't waste my time listening to bickering I am not about to start. If I wanted that, I would skip over to the VMOA page. Let’s keep it real boyz. The petty bickering will only drive the intelligent ones away. That will not help anyone here and would be a sad day for the BADWEB. |

No one wants to bicker, but look at all the posts on a bickering board...hmmm interesting.
Thank you for bringing to my attention that I didn't say thank you though. I didn't mean to neglect that. I do appreciate the assistance, but the first few posts were right on top of each other and I was treating it as a free-flowing chat, not the end of a conversation where you say "Thank you". By the time things were getting sorted out, tempers were starting to get short.
But just so it is clear I do take offense to 1) people assuming that I would just post here before I looked anywhere else, 2) repost the exact same thing like I couldn't see it the first time, 3) not checking their own information before offering a suggestion, and 4) acting as if I am a cheap-skate for wanting to save a couple hundred bucks. Seriously, if money was the only concern, I'd own a V-strom and a CBR instead of a Uly and Firebolt. |

Might I suggest that your threshold for taking offense could use some elevation? Why be offended? Do you imagine people are out to get you or insult you out of sport?
Who do you admire more, the person who is strong enough to rise above all the miserableness or one who in judging harshly the statements of others and always presupposing malicious intent reacts with anger. I can tell you which type of man I admire more. Pretty sure most would agree with my choice too.  |

Let's move on, eh? You've got your bags on order, next up you need to figure out how to "persuade" the Buell bracketry to line up on the right side. It can be done; don't do anything silly.
Once that's done be GENTLE with the latches and be GENTLE putting the bags on the bike.
Do those things and you'll be very pleased with the HB bags.

The brackets (he wouldn't have w/o the Buell bags) and the latch problem (which I wonder plagues the rest of the world's H/B Journey owners) are the next move.
When Toxic runs into these situations when he gets his cases maybe he'll have become un-Toxic enough to mellow out enough to inquire again for assistance from BadWebbers on what to do next. And I'm sure we'll still be there to help. |

I'm glad I found the right buyer for her. Too fine a bike to entrust to just anyone.
If my Wife didn't have such an aversion to my potential as a bike collector I'd still have the S2 and my old Cafe Sportster.

Saro, Court would've flown out here and beat me with a stick if I rode that S2 the places I take my Ulysses.
In retrospect what I did was best for the S2 and for me.
Plus my Ulysses seems to enjoy taking the road (path?) less traveled. I know I do.

Actually, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that you're all missing the real need for selling the brackets only...
I want the bracketry because Buell only sells the HB Journey bags - and they're too freakin' BIG! From what I've read they're 40" wide when mounted. (A Goldwing is narrower!) The Heppo Becker Junior sidecases are a touch over 3" narrower than the Journey bags. So, mounted, they'd only be about 34" wide. That would be a HUGE difference when I'm splitting lanes on my way to work... and much more in line with how wide the narrow lidded Buell bags on my S3 are.
I've put over 45,000 miles on my S3 with the narrow lids, and never once in that time have I needed or used the deep lids. So don't nobody go tellin' me that I'd like the big bags...
So, why would I want to buy the whole Buell bag set-up knowing that the Journey bags are going to sit on a shelf collecting dust while I have to spend another $450 on top of the cost of the Buell set-up to get the narrower hard bags that I'll use?
I might just buy a Uly IF I knew I could put a set of narrow hard bags on it for a reasonable price.
Actually, what Buell REALLY needs to build is a long wheelbase XB12R with a handlebar and narrow bags. That's the Buell that I'd trade my S3 for... |

The stock bags are great for traveling, especially if your Lil' Redhead tags along.
So why not just get both? Best of both worlds, eh?
I bet the Jr. bags would look good on the Uly...
