I guess I suck.

I normally fill my gas tank from the left side of the bike. Last week, I filled it from the right side with my sunglasses on. I wound up spraying gasoline everywhere. Some dripped on the back side of the windscreen where I couldn't get to it. Rather than immediately take it off, I left it sit. When I finally got around to taking it off to wipe off the white residue, it turns out that the residue is actually the windscreen "etched" or stained where the gasoline dripped.

Any suggestions on how to clear this up or am I replacing the shield?

Thanks.

Paint it all black since you don't look through it anyway.

If you can't remove the stain with a cleaner you will probably have to sand it out with extra fine emery paper and then polish with a buff and jewelers rouge.
If you use a power buff make sure you don't over heat the plastic.

try mother's scratch-x. That stuff takes off the white pretty well, without hurting the rest of the shield. At least on my BMW it did.

Painting it. Now there is a clever idea!

I'm actually a little intrigued with the idea to be honest... Except that I do look through it sometimes.

Hmm... Probably not.

I painted mine black (from the inside of the screen). It looks great.

I painted mine black in December after I scratched the inside of it. Scotchbrite and Testors model gloss black spray paint. It looks awesome on the black bike, and pretty cool on the orange ones, too.

Painted mine as well from the inside. I did the same with my S3.

Love it. Looks like I have a project for this weekend.

Scotchbrite the back, then paint? Leave front as is?

Thanks.

I just wiped it down the underside with a cloth dampened with paint reducer or alcohol. Then sprayed the underside with Krylon semi-flat or similar.

I painted mine too. I used Krylon Fusion paint on the inside. It is made specifically for plastic with no prep work needed. Just clean the surface and paint. I used a satin , but even a flat looks glossy from the front.

I would think that the flat would be best because then you won't be adding a surface that the sun will glare from.

Last question: Did you tape up or do anything to the front? Gonna buy supplies at lunch tomorrow and paint when I get home so I can ride Saturday.

Yes- tape off the front to prevent over spray. I also painted the edge of the screen and liked the way it came out.

50/50 I just painted it aiming straight down. Used some Meguiars polish on the front side after wards and that removed the bits of over-spray.

It looks shiny from the front.

Ok, I lied. One more question for those who have painted. I taped up the front this morning but I couldn't figure out how to get the mounting plugs easily out of the windshield. Tape em up or paint em or remove em?

Thanks again.

Dave - What are the little tubes sticking up off your crossbar?

I kind of like that clapboard siding look that is reflected off that house. No, really.

Other than my inability to apply a light coat of spray paint, project is completed. The can I got seemed to drip and I wound up putting more paint down than I wanted to. From the front, it looks great, tho. The etched areas are no longer visible.

Thanks all.

I pulled the rubber plugs... they are a b!tch.

The vacuum tubes are to ward off aliens and evil spirits. ; ) Nooooo ... I use other devices for that. The vacuum tubes hold a map pouch in place. They are slid onto 2 small tie wraps. I punched t holes in a map pouch. I pull the tubes, putt the map pouch over the 2 tie wraps and use the tubes to hold it in place. I'll get a picture.

The siding is circa 1950 very popular style house here in hilly Birmingham. It's painted a very conservative off white/gray. The green trim is a bit much for me but I'd rather ride than paint. ; )

Anyone got a picture of this on the orange bike? Looks awesome on the black bikes, but I'm not sure if I want to block some of my orange front end. I all ready wish it had more orange on it.

Hey that looks good on the barricade Orange as well. I have a 2nd set of plastics in Orange.

I actually thought about painting something on the wind screen ... maybe over a vinyl decal of the Ulysses "U", pegasus or Captain America shield

Here is one of my map in place.
