If you like buell and you would like to see Erik Buell and staff make a more adventure oriented bike. Somewhat like KTM 950, BMW GS 1150/1200 Adventure. please respond to this thread.....Who knows...he may read..........and who knows....what if it works....I get one free  ANY WAY I AM THINKING OF: 1. BIGGER TANK 5+ GALLONS 2. BIGGER SCREEN 3. 19" rims that will accomodate road and offroad tires 4. Slightly longer wheelbase/rake 5. Keep the Harley engine. 6. Offer carburation for south of border excursions and there mechanics 7. I like the tall seat, but how about adjustable seat height for the midgets. 8. Better instrumentation....THATS IT. I BELIEVE THIS WOULD HANDLE THE ROADS JUST FINE AND SPORTY AND WOULD INCREASE YOUR RANGE AND COMFORT IMMENSELY. | ||

Bigger tank? That's gonna take some engineering. Bigger screen? Buy one. 19" rims? nuh uh. Carbs? OMG NO, NO, NO!! Better instruments? Why? We don't want added weight. | ||

I will agree with the better instruments. I hate dummy lights and this bike is screaming for an oil/air temp/battery gauges. | ||

Hey Peter, go to the Buell site, and read the Q&A section, as well as watch the video about the Ulysses. It was NEVER intended to be a match for the HP1 or the KTM. Erik and his team designed a bike that I was looking for. Something that will be a wonderful touring machine, great sport bike, and can handle bad pavement, and fire roads. If you want an off road bike, buy an off road bike, The Ulysses isnt made for that purpose. | ||

Amen! I wanted a big sportbike for the real world and that's what Buell delivered. Race replicas are great, but they are uncomfortable and don't handle potholes, broken pavement, the occasional road that turns to gravel, and chip seal very well. The Ulysses does. If I had a place to ride dirt, I'd own a dirt bike. In fact, I owned a KLR for a while. I loved it, but I got chased out of too many construction zones trying to find a bumpy road to ride on. | ||

Gale & B.J. - I think you may find that Peter is well aware of the differences between dirt and street bikes and what makes each of them good for their intended purposes  We're still talking about something the Ulysses isn't intended to do, and something, IMHO, I don't think you could make it do without a TOTAL redesign. | ||

They could make a dirt oriented one with a detuned single derived from the RR motor and call it the XB12Y Achilles.  | ||

Um guys... All I said was; I'd like one that could compete with these two. If that means a total redesign, and it probably would, that's ok Actually I was at the dealer's today, and was looking at the Uly to see whether an 18-21" wheel combo was do-able. The Alto Turia is in a couple of months. Grizzly is taking his HP2...  ...and I'll be on the 660. Sure would be cool to be able to ride a Uly in it though... Still got the bits at home to get 120rwhp out of one | ||

Sorry Peter, it just seems like a lot of folks come into forums and say "I like the bike except I want an HP2." I understand now that I have seen your profile, and Yes it would be nice to see a Vtwin from here compete in europe, and in the dakar rally. You would have to change the fork or the angle of the fork to get a bigger wheel on there. I dont think there is enough room to mount a 130 series rear backwards on the front of the stock setup. If they would fit, you could run more aggressive tires for more offroad fun. Not much clearance there though. | ||

Gale, No problem. I'm a big fan of Erik Buell and the late John Britten. Both are people that did what I wanted to do, but I only dreamed about it, and I have a lot of respect for them. They got off their butts, so I'd love to ride one of Erik's bikes in an area which I enjoy. Nothing wrong with road bikes(track days are great), or the Ulysses as it is(also owned 4 GS's before the Ulysses was released, one of which was the Adventure), but I like to play in the dirt more... so I'm petitioning for an HP2/Super Enduro competitor. Oh, and I'd LOVE to give Grizzly a run for his money on a Buell against that HP2 of his!  | ||

I have owned BMW bikes as well, and the Ulysses was the bike that has gotten me to make the switch. I like the bike a lot, it has called to me like no bike in a long time. I hope it is successful, I have placed my faith in it, and look forward to learning about and riding this motorcycle. I agree, it would be great to see some competition to the usual suspects that normally win. | ||

I would sign the petition and would likely even spend the money to buy that somewhat more dirt oriented version... But then again, my wishlist carried most of the above (minus the carbs), but also has to include greater range in steering lock... I love my Uly for what it is (comfortable, and still awesome up and down tail of the dragon!), but I think there is merit in expanding into that direction. Hey I can wish too! | ||

Use the Blast single-cylinder engine, give it dirt-sized wheels, what's the problem? It could make a GREAT dirt bike or Motard. | ||

After having ridden a Blast as well as modern motocross (the most common origin for Motards) 450 class thumpers, I'm not too comfortable with the Blast being the right platform to base an offroad anything on... And in my opinion it sure doesn't have the engine either. I'll take an XB12X-Xtreme version if they build one. |
