I test rode the Ulysses this weekend and really loved the bike. After getting off of it and back onto my VFR, the Honda felt like a little toy (and it's big for a sport bike). As much as I like the bike there were a couple of naggles I had with it. The main one being my love of magnetic tank bags. With the plastic air box cover I'll need to invest in a new tank bag since all mine are magnetic. The new air intake location worries me with how big of a bag I'll be able to use. What kind of bag are current Ulysses owners using? While were on the topic; I'm guessing the Buell tankbag 91213-04YA (not 91213-04Y) will work on the Uly, just wondering what the build quality was like - zippers, mounting straps, etc. Also heard that the Cortech Tri bag works on the XB's - anyone have any experience and or pictures? Rhino is correct. They updated the mounting to work with the new intake. Build quality is real good, watertight zippers, holds it's form well. | ||

There is a lot of unused space inside that tank cover, get some really freaking big magnets and epoxy them on the inside of the tank cover. The should self align enough to allow you to mark their position, then apply epoxy, then snap them back in place and let the epoxy set. Magnetic fields decrease exponentially as their distance increases linearly though, which is just a complicated way of saying you need really big freaking magnets. That being said, I have the buell tailbag for my lightning, and so far I am impressed by it's quality relative to it's price. | ||

Reepicheep, I thought about doing something similar to that or pounding a sheet of metal to form to the inside of the cover and epoxy-ing it into place. I wonder if that would work??? I just like the quick convenience of the mag bag since I can just un-hook the safety lanyard and go. I'm sure there's only an extra step or two needed for a strapped bag though... | ||

I doubt the magnets would be strong enough for just sheet metal. I think you would need another set of magnets, probably big ones, to bridge the thickness of the tank cover. Depending on where the magnets are on the bag, you might be able to epoxy a decorative painted ferrous metal strip on the outside of the airbox as well. It could look like a 3d racing stripe, but be magnetic metal. If done carefully it could look good. | ||

The air intake of the airbox cover is only part of the intake system. Air also enters around the edges of the cover as well as some getting up to the inlet slits of the airbox from underneath the airbox. Someone has expressed concern about water when raining but the inlet slits on the airbox are on the right side and not directly behind the front cover inlet screen so I don't think it will be a problem. Who needs a tankbag with the huge luggage? BC Steve | ||

I've got about a month to go before I get my Uly, and I was thinking about gluing some magnets to the underside of the airbox. If someone does it, let me know how it works. | ||

Just buy the Buell tankbag it works great. I have had one on my 9R since I bought it in 2002. I also fabricated a mount to hold my garmin GPS on it as well. | ||

What happens when you toss your wallet (with all those magnetic read strips) into your tank bag after a fuel stop. Maybe the next fuel stop you may not be paying at the pump??? | ||

I've used mag bags exclusively since my BMW GS days, and they have never harmed my credit cards. They are so convenient, and I've got a bike that I love. It's not so big that it's in the way, but just big enough that it holds what I need. Basically all I carry is my phone, wallet, ball cap, bungee net, bottle of advil (bad knees), and I might stuff a bottle of water in there too. I have a big seat bag for traveling, so I'm not interested in a big touring tank bag. Just a little one. | ||

Same here, I've had all kinds of cameras, credit cards, various flash media devices, even floppy disc in my mag tank bag and never lost any data or had issues. |
