I just love how you guys keep falling for the "Remind me tomorrow and I'll tell you" bit. That's my cue to ignore the rest of the post and the ones to follow. |

Mark, We only fall for that bit when it's coupled with the "I'm working 7 days a week hanging out of a helicopter grappling with live wires" bit. The Ferris tease was the icing on the cake. Jim in Santa Barbara |

Mark Schroeder: That's a fairly blunt and unkind statement. Some of this stuff, before I write it, needs to be cleared to make certain I am not saying or inferring something that is not either accurate or to be public information. I've learned a lesson in the past week to not even hint about details to anyone. Since you are in a big hurry, let me give you the "public thumbnail" so we can lay this thread to sleep. Buell asked supplier to develop bags...they did...sent them to Buel...Buell said we want better...supplier did.....supllier upgraded their entire line to "Buell spec"....bags ship from Germany in one container....Elves at Buell said we can do better and want bags to arrive perfect, ergo designed custom XB12X boxes...ergo....every set of bags, while being taken from Euro packaging and put in Buell packaging gets inspected. Ricky's first post was a good example of what happens when misinformation starts on the internet. It proved one thing.....he'd been pumped fill of crap, smiled and sucked it up like candy. Buell is shipping LOTS of bags subject to two temporary early constraints, Euro August holiday and giving preference to dealers who ACTUALLY have bikes. Thanks for your patience. The tale with all the details, the names, the personalities and the excitement can get trashed. This place has become quite tedious lately. Think I'll borrow a bike and ride away. Court |

I was at the dealer yesterday. The bloke that owned it saw me and said "Have you heard about the Ulysses yet?" The parts bloke said "Of course he would have!" with a grin. I said I had. The owner said "That's good because I've already ordered you one...." "Black?" I asked. "Naturally". Don't know what the workshop is like as I do all my own work, but the blokes out the front are on the ball What's the bet there will be bags with it when it arrives? |

Hi Court, I too had heard the story about the quality control etc on the bags, and don't doubt it for a moment. I just think that the styling of the luggage doesn't quite fit with the adventure credentials of the bike, particularly as Hepco & Becker have available the aluminium top loading cases as well as the Gobi range that would seem (to me at least) a more suitable choice. I am sure that Buell have done a great job on waterproofing the side cases, but surely a vertically split case will always be inferior to a top hinged case as far as water ingress is concerned? The other thing about the alloy cases such as Hepco. Touratech and SW Motech make is that they take some serious punishment and stay repairable and useable. Take a look at 'The Long Way Round' and you'll see what I mean. As I say, maybe it's a personal thing, but it is the only thing that I have any critiscism of the XB12X in any area. |

why did you have to take a swing at Court, a guy who has devoted MASSIVE amounts of energy over the past decade helping Buellers enjoy their Buelling experience? never met court irl. but he's got my vote for #uno buell enthusiast and all around good guy |

Court: Ricky's first post was a good example of what happens when misinformation starts on the internet. It proved one thing.....he'd been pumped fill of crap, smiled and sucked it up like candy. Buell is shipping LOTS of bags subject to two temporary early constraints, Euro August holiday and giving preference to dealers who ACTUALLY have bikes. Here is another example of someone trying to make themselves look good by saying I don't know what I'm talking about. Number one: I was at the dealers that had the bikes on the showroom floor. Number two: This all falls back onto the the stupid fuking dealers that shouldn't be allowed to sell these bikes. Buell, the company, doesn't/won't give out any information via the news, so in turn the only thing we have is what the dealer tells us. Number three: At least I know you are a real person. I've ridden with you. But that is when you worked for Buell. Do you work for them now? I honestly don't know. Until these problems get cleared up, I will be cautious of Buell. I never said I wouldn't buy one. |

Let try this preface again, first off i own and have owned Buells, i like the brand, and like several dealers. However, why dosent, or how can Buell use HD net, to try and give a few explinations about whats up with the bags For example: Part number for bags comes up as back ordered, maybe there can be an asterixs added that says look at #XXXXX release via HD net On HD net it explains the situation, says whats up, and why I mean its cool what Court does for the Badweb group, but what about the people who do use the internet(gasp) or that dont know this site exists. I realize HD has clamped down on the HD dealers, but maybe a little more help is needed As i have said before, i think the network is holding back Buell, but not as bad as it used to, maybe its time for a little help and or guildance so that things are not said that shouldn't be. I realy belive this is going to be a great year for Buell, but i fear the dealers could create there own problems if they dont at least try and change a little, seems like a comprimise may be needed or at least strived for This is JUST MY OPINION, it does not have to belong to you, make your own thasnk R |

I apologize (a little) for my tirade above, but i'm gonna leave it there, at least for now. Ricky, let's hook up and go riding again some time. No need to apologize. That post looked like facts instead of fantasy to me. It was straight forward, to the point. Good job. Soon as I get more vacation under my belt, I'd be happy to go for a ride. It's been too long. PS. for those that don't know, Jerry and I have know each other for about ten years. |

Hello Court, I don't know the personalities around here as well as you do. I thought MarkS3T was joking with you. My response was meant as a joke as well. I appreciate all you've done for us Buellers, don't work too hard, watch out for live wires. Regards, Jim in Santa Barbara |

Jim_sb, If Erik hadn't meant for me to have a cold beer at some point during my ride he wouldn't have given me bags to store them in. Getting the refridgeration part installed was left as an exercise to the reader/rider. Bb, I think I can do it. You can buy the element that controls the hot/cold separately. Kind of like a Radio Shack science project kit. I'm struggling with the message it might send to the teen - and the thought of having to put a exhaust vent in a perfectly good bag! |

"Court (more comfy being helicoptered on to a live line than wiring a wall outlet)" You do live line work? I just solo'ed on my way to a helicopter CFI. Unbeleivable feeling! So, I should order the bags now to go with the Uly on it's way in Sept.?? Ok, tomorrow. |

Bb, Oddly enough, I can't find myself lusting for the Uly. I even get a burr up my butt when it's mentioned as a S3T replacement!! (S3T alternative I'll accept.) Maybe that'll change when I see it in person, but without a place or a desire to "dual-sport" I don't see it happening. I am happy to see Buell put out a bike that folks can be excited about, though. |

Well, Roger, I have both, and I have no problem whatsoever in viewing the Uly as an S3 replacement. Fact is, it is a much better motorcycle in almost all ways. In fact, I can only think of two ways that it is not: 1) The S3 is a prettier motorcycle. This is very subjective. I've always thought the front of an S3 is a little blunt, but the tank and tail lines make up for it. It IS a very nice looking motorcycle. The Uly ain't half bad, but the extremely functional aspects of the tail aren't exactly beautiful (but are VERY practical, incredibly so, I'm very much digging that), and the hand guards/mickey mouse ears aren't much to look at. I've already removed them on mine. 2) The S3 has better WATER protection. Not so sure it has better wind protection, but in a rain storm, the S3 fairing gives more surface to hunker down behind. Give me 6 months, I'll have that fixed Al |

Lusting after the Uly? Hmmm. Where's my Kool-aid?I'm still waiting for my dealer to get the low seat in so I can see if I fit on the bike. It's not a dual sport bike. I know, I have one and do dual sport rides. Dual sport riding can be pretty gnarly (technical term). The DS guys I ride with are all on dirt bikes. The XR650 seems to be the weapon of choice for many. Some DRZ400's, KTM's, etc. Nothing bigger than those, though. But the Uly is quite adventurous. Ride it to Alaska. Or Pike's Peak. Bring your luggage. Don't be overly concerned if the road turns to gravel. Or dirt. I think Buell has come up with a very appealing bike for me, I may simply have to have one. I'm trying to find a good home for my S2 first, someone who will appreciate the bike like I have. Jim in Santa Barbara |

Hi Glenn, Yeah, the Uly wouldn't have any troubles, but nobody else did either, eh? It's just a gravel driveway with a little washboard. You should see the trouble, uh, I mean stuff, I get into with my lil' DRZ400S. Rode through the Sisquoc River a month or so ago. Then we rode up a dry seasonal creek in the mountains to a remote campground. Wouldn't have been so bad except for the size of the rocks in the creekbed! I kept trying to fall but somehow the bike stayed up. I think bikes like my DRZ and the Uly, conceptually, are for people like me who like to color outside the lines. Jim in SB |

Btw there was this ice chest cooler thing back in the 30s that was "just" two balls separated by a short tube. I think you heated one side on the stove until the coolent all moves to the other side. Then you stuck the "heated" side into the cooler with the "unheated" outside via a slot in the side of the chest. They were supposed to have worked too well as they lasted nearly forever (and stayed very cold all day too) Bet you'd get a lot of questions about that funny looking metal ball hanging out the side of one of your bags tho.... Border crossings would be fun too I bet! |

True Jim, I didn't have any problems but I was very mindful of the short ground clearance and worried about rocks in the belt (mostly). When I ride in the dirt I use my KLR. Still it's outclased by my friends dirt & DS bikes. Of course my dirt riding skills leave a bit to be desired too! (Message edited by unibear12r on August 16, 2005) |
