So Happy, I just picked up a 2 owner (2nd owner bought it in 2000) Red M2 that is super clean.. it looks great next to my '08 Firebolt. A couple of questions for the M2 experts out there. I will be changing out the engine and primary oils and would like to know what the Harley part numbers would be for the primary chain inspection and clutch cover gaskets would be? I pass right by a dealer that was a "non Buell" dealer..
I am also wondering if anyone knows what the "updated" front brake rotor part number is. This M2 has the "rattling rotor"

(and yes, I am going to check the primary chain tensioner too..)
Thanks

When in doubt, tell the parts guy it is for a 2000 Sporster. As gaskets go, that will usually get you a usable part.

If he hands you a paper primary gasket instead of a metal one (the big outer gasket, not the smaller derby cover or inspection cover gaskets), hand it back and go find a metal one somewhere. The paper ones literally have about a 30% chance of random failure even when you do things right.

Its a '99 with 18,000 miles, really clean too. It needs new tires and the front disk rotor replaced (I have a new EBC rotor waiting). I'd love to take the slop out of the stock shifter and will look (or make) a new bushing. I couldn't go wrong for $2K. Though having said that a week later I found a newer yellow one with less miles and more upgrade..I'm keeping track of the parts I purchase and their part numbers like gaskets, oil filter and such so I can go to the closest HD dealer and get parts. The dealer I bought my Firebolt and Ultraclassic still has a bunch of Buell parts..

Very nice!

The updated shifter will help some, but it will never really feel precise. Just be manly in your shifting. : )

Nice!

Clearly I'm dum-b, since the thread has the year on it!

LOVE how stock it is!!! The 01+ shifter has a lot less slop and polishes up nicely if that's your thing. That Borla muffler is so sweet sounding!!! take good care of it, they are nearly impossible to find, and sound soooo good without being offensively loud.

If your bike has the stock black header you can strip it and polish it up as well... for better continuity in the exhaust.

Congrats, $2K was a steal for such a pristine 1999 M2!

Live in Nashua NH, work in Andover and Carlisle Mass (depending on job)
I was wondering what brand the muffler was as it has no marking.. it has a pretty good bark to it and sounds really nice when the bike is in the powerband. I bought it from the 2nd owner who bought it in 2000, I have the warranty cards from both owners and was able find and talk to the original owner who turns out to be big into antique bikes. The bike was purchased from Big Moose HD/Buell in Portland ME. The bike also has stage 1 aircleaner on it. The rear brake is pretty "non existent" so I will try changing the pads and changing the brake fluid out.

Rear brake will remain that way unless you put a multi-piston brake on there.

You CAN improve feel with better pads (I like the Lyndall gold) and a metal (braided or whatever) line (XB lines work if you don't mind moving the brake light switch, I have a thread on that somewhere here).

It's cool that you have the history on it and are only the third owner.

Is the exhaust carbon fiber vance and hines? I don't think White Brothers made a carbon fiber one.

I think they had a tendancy to shake apart over time, so you might want to keep your eyes open for a Supertrapp IDS. Incredibly nice system for M2's.

No Reep, that is definitely a Borla. Sounds better than the SuperTrapp, but not as robust, far more robust than the V&H though.
The V&H are like their offerings for other bikes, where they hang off the side and aren't subject to as much shaking, road debris, and abuse that being under the bike puts a muffler through.
Borla has a sturdier inlet, the metal end caps are heavier than the Vance 's hard parts too. I had the opportunity to handle them along with the stainless pro series when my local dealer had great Buell support (back in 2003 they lost their on staff Buell enthusiast and it went downhill from there).

Cool! I remember walking into Modesto while travelling no business and seeing a beautiful White Brothers exhaust hanging on the wall (with a huge price tag). Don't even remember which one it was, I just remember it being awesome looking.

I loved my Supertrapp IDS stainless. Affordable, as durable as stock, great sound, but not too loud.

Great looking bike! I really like the red with the black frame. I just picked up a 97 a few months ago but yours looks much better cared after.

How do you enjoy it compared to your firebolt? I had an xb9s before and it's definitely a different experience. They're pretty similar bikes, and the xb was definitely a bit more refined all the way around, but the older bikes just seem like more fun.

I am in Fremont NH. Very nice score. Think I saw that on Craigslist a few months ago when I picked up my x1.
