It's been awhile! That means my Buell has been running well for awhile! haha
So if I'm back it can only mean one thing; I have another issue...
The other day I took the Buell out for a ride and she was running perfectly! 100%
On my way home however, I noticed that my RPM gauge would sporadically jump up. I kept an eye on it and noticed that whenever the RPM gauge spiked the tachometer would drop. RPM would jump about 1 inch or 1k rpms and the speedo would drop by about an 8th of an inch. A couple blocks from home the bike sputtered a couple times. I got to my garage, turned the bike off. Opened the garage door. Went to turn bike back on and it turned over about 1 rotation and that was it.
The head/tail lights turned off and dashboard lights went out as well. Turned the key to the off position and back on; no lights. I toggled it a couple times and the lights came on. I hit the ignition switch and it tried to turn over for a millisecond, then the lights went out again. I tried this multiple times and the starter relay would only click.
Today I tried my luck and when I turned the key to the "on" position the headlight came on but very dim. Turned it off and on again. Headlight was still dim. Third time I tried the headlight was at full strength.
Any ideas on what might be causing this or where I should start to look? Today I'm going to start tracing the wiring and test for continuity. But when it comes to multimeters I am very new. I'm not sure what voltages/amps/ohms to be looking for. Or what numbers to be looking for just in continuity.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,

First thing to check, as always, would be the battery cables. Confirm the connections are clean and tight. Both ends. Then look about for various chassis grounds, and do the same.
Once that is done, try bypassing the ign switch and see if the problem is corrected. I suspect that is where the fault lies.
Hope this helps, Dave.

Anybody know where all the grounds are that I should be looking at? Also I am fairly inexperienced with a multi meter. So if anybody knows what settings and numbers I should be looking for that would be helpful as well

I suspect a bad battery or loose battery cables at battery terminals, remove battery and take to local shop or batteries plus for evaluation. Look on YouTube for how to use multimeter.

Check the post immediately below this one called 'Fixing earthing problems - Why and How' for locations of earthing grounding points. You don't need to be handy with a multimeter to do it, just Scotchbrite and cans of different CRC. Read all the posts - there's a bit more info in each extra one as I found out stuff.
I suspect its the earth point on the front of the steering head that's affecting your speedo & revcounter. If it was loose battery connections there would be all sorts of other problems too - jv
