So I bought some brand new plastics from the same person I bought my CR. they even still had the tape on them. Unfortunately when I peeled off the tape it also took some of the finish off! The tape created a bubble in one place and peeled the gloss finish right off at the top of the radiator cover, and now it's staring at me. I haven't installed it yet, I'm hoping to figure out how to get it replaced with out it costing me anything. Any ideas? |

I'm guessing the surface is just dirty or something, the Buell plastics are impregnated with the dye. Try using Novus or something to clean and polish it up perhaps? |

yea exactly. the first two are the same place. the last one is a bubble in the clear. the top two are down to naked plastic under the peeled stuff |

I don't think those plastics were new. Shouldn't be any paint on any of the plastics, just stickers. I would be talking to the guy you got those from. |

Tape? The plastics don't come with tape on them unless that are on the bike when they leave the factory, and those are removed during PDI. Those plastics don't look right, the texture on the good parts look painted. |

well if it is painted they found the same white tape that comes on the stock pieces. and they did a great job matching it.

Original equipment plastics on 1125's have no paint, as mentioned before they are solid impregnated color. what is lifting there is primer,paint,clear... |

I thought they were made from a dyed plastic called Surlyn (or something like that). They're not painted from the factory and have no coating - that's why you can carefully polish out deep scratches. As has already been said, they look like they've been painted for some reason? |

could the "tape" have created some kind of chemical reaction that over time damaged the plastics surface? It's hard to tell whats going on from the pics. |

Yea EBR said the tape probably was on for too long and bonded with it. But it still kinda looks painted to me. O well. I am using them as temp plastics anyways. I am plastidip-ing my white plastics orange with a silver metal flake |

Sorry for your issues, but I'm glad you posted this. I've just gone and removed the plastic stuff from a fender I have in reserve. So sorry and thanks. |

looks like a knife was used wow thats ugly Surlyn is the correct name, it was used as far back as the tube frame bikes. Those parts had molded in color then, my 13 yr old X1 has black body work (surlyn) and its soft and easily scratched as is my 1125 body work sorry to see that mess on your new parts |
