So I have an offer in and financing complete on a 2015 SX that I just have to give the OK on to own. I have a bid on a 2014 SX and I want to wait until I hear back from that one before I finalize the deal on the 2015. So by tomorrow I'll be the proud owner of an EBR Motorcycle.

I'm guessing I will need to check the serial number on the dash to see if that's ok but beyond that I'm not sure.

So besides the dash, what is the first thing I should be doing to this thing when I get it home?

If you get the 2014, pull the starter motor out and check the date on that, earlier ones had a wrong size o-ring, resulting in water contamination inside the starter. Mine got rebuilt in TWO's parking lot.

+1 on the starter.

If you get the 2014, you'll probably also want to look at a lighter clutch pull kit. There are a few options available.

For either bike, you may also consider having the dash and ecm updated. It's a no charge option - just send them in to any EBR dealer, and they will send it in to EBR for the software upgrade. You just pay for shipping.

Exhaust finisher kit with ECM from EBR

HMF Race exhaust with ECM from EBR

APH exhaust without ECM

Go buy a lemon, cut it in half and suck on one half. It will help to get that silly grin off your face.

When I bought my SX, there were three immediate needs on my list:
Get rid of license plate bracket
Get rid of the stock mirrors
Get rid of the big exhaust resonator

I had those all checked off in the first few weeks of ownership. I went with CRG bar end mirrors, exhaust finisher tips and ecm from EBR, and have the Twisted Designs undertail license plate bracket. Couldn't be happier with them.

Here is the one that I bought with 2 miles on it. Just closed the deal on the 2015. I got a SMOKING deal on it.

What's the current definition of 'smoking' deals on the SXs?

Oh, when talking about things to do first, remove all of those warning stickers. Everyone will start busting you about it when you post pics (ask me how I know). : )

Just a note on the starter. I bought an RX when they came out and had a starter failure. Actually 2 failures.
On the 3rd one, I bought on Amazon. I took it apart apart and sealed it with high temp silicone, I don't remember which one, but I have not had a problem since then. Mine both failed early on so I likely got 2 bad ones until I bought one from the info that was posted on here.
I'm not sure that if it was needed, but I know that after I put the silicone on I haven't had an issue. That's been about a year and a half now. And I ride all year round.

Damnut -

The 48-Hour Rule or “You Had Your Chance” This rule was established on March 5, 2002 and is as follows: As a reward for a fellow sneaking new and inexpensive cylinders into the Crisis Center and also escaping any female wrath that might accrue from said purchase, the fellow may make up any story he wishes after 48 hours regarding the acquisition. In other words, she gets 48 hours to notice the purchase and complain. If she misses her window, you are home free.
“This old thing,” you might say, when, after a week, she finally does notice, “that thing has been here since July.”

From http://www.1500espn.com/shows/garage-logic/the-gl- lexicon/

YMMV

Now I have to figure a way to get it home in Massachusetts from Midlothian Virginia. Right now I'm looking at my three options and seeing which is best.

The first would be having it shipped. I have a request for bids on Uship and the lowest-priced bid so far is $350.

The second would be to fly down and ride it back. Flights out of Providence RI are about $160. I could drive down to the airport (30 min) with my trailer on my car and leave it there. The good thing is that the ride back is about 550 miles so I'd have my initial oil change to do when I get back. Since the airport is on my way back, I can put it on the trailer and go home. I think parking is 15 bucks for the day. This would be about $250 and about 13 hours of time.

The third would be driving down there and picking the bike up with the trailer. My car gets 33 mpg towing a bike so I could get down there and back for under $150, food and tolls included. This would take about 24 hours of time.

Hopefully I'll get some lower bids but the good thing is I have a couple of days to think about it. If anything I don't think I will go with option 3, just too much time wasted sitting in a car. Hmm what to do....

I've done two fly and rides. And even the epically bad one (seller misrepresented tire life and I ended up with a flat in the middle of nowhere with no cell phone coverage) was awesome. And the good one was even awesomer.

Do the fly and ride and take the adventure before you.

The one big drawback to this is 550 miles of interstate would be a far-from-optimum break-in for a new bike. If you can take the time to use backroads so you can regularly vary engine RPM/throttle position/load, you'd be OK.

A big part of breaking in my 1125R that was delivered the 18th of December, was 2-300 mile trips on I-25 with a lot of 80-100 excursions in 6th.

I'm getting the bike shipped to Mass from Virginia via UShip for $315. The bike should be here tomorrow evening so I should be able to take it for a ride on Saturday. Just in time for me to leave for Oregon on Sunday.

Man it's going to be a long week on the road.

I was just joking about taking the SX out, but maybe a short ride, just to remind me how good one feels wouldn't be a bad thing. Or, if Froggy brings his SX to Suches, maybe he'd be willing to let me take it out for a short run.

Seven Grand for an SX is a crazy good deal. It's got me thinking...

But if I wait , maybe a Sport Tourer is in the pipeline. But if it isn't, then I'd be passing on one hell of a good deal. But if I buy the '15 SX, it'll knock the hell out of my plan to get the credit card paid off ASAP, but at that price, it would be worth it. But if I jump too soon, I won't have the money to go to the Arctic Circle next June. But...
