SO I was doing my valve check on my 1125r, and while looking at the gear driven cam I feel this system, and the overall design of the helicon engine would actually work best as a v4, not a V-twin. I am not an expert in the field, but it doesnt hurt to experiment. By moving to a v4, we could shave some weight by removing the counterbalncers, and by using the gear driven cams, the chain driven intake cams would have an extended life, and be able to handle higher loads, du to the chain only driving 4 valves instead of all 8 "for one block". BUT, I dont think it should be a 1190cc v4, it should be a 2380cc v4! The helicon engine is so narrow, it wouldn't make the bike that much wider really. Oh come on, that would be awesome and you know it! I would just like to hear everyone es opinion on this wierd idea.

Cost would be the main issue then getting the engine far enough forward to keep the front tire on the ground.

Balance shafts would still be needed unless it's a 90° V.

Me too!!

Ducati is going to a v-4 in 2 years. 2400 would be crazy. If they were to go v4 it would be great to make it in 3 different sizes 800 1000 and 1000 plus .
I would be happy with them getting production running.

May not fit between the tank/frame spars without making that bit significantly wider, or abandoning the fuel in frame concept.

If you look at the rear cylinder inbetween the frame spars, there is enough room for another cylinder, it would just make the frame thin in that part, or they could follow triumph and put the frame on top of the cylinders instead of around.

This comment comes from a design and prototype background...

You're talking a "LOT" of "design", "prototype", "testing", "tooling", "manufacturing" money.
AND a same as above in a new chassis design. There's a LOT more than just "space" that needs to be looked at..!
Do you Mrsuper have that kind of spendable cash ?

Not NEARLY as simple as you describe..!

Well obviously it is a large job, this post was simply to make people think about something different, please stop being so touchy and taking everything so seriously!

Well...we could talk about what color the pistons should be, or if the rods should have a twist in the beam..!

Why talk about pipe dreams..?
Come up with "useful" questions for parts that one could use..."now"..!

I was just screwing with you! Lol designing an engine is a very long and time consisting project, I just find it fun to think of what could happen. If people didn't think of what could be, then buell would never have existed! People dreaming about what is possible is the sole thing driving innovation, not just thinking about what can be done right now. Just something for you to remember next time.

Yeah like the Honda V-5.
Honda isn't scared of doing weird stuff with their race machines.
