The day was hot, upper 90s and freeway was crawling 25-40mph. 35-40 minutes.
Seemed like skipping every other spark at idle, revved clean tho.
Stopped for a while, left in a light rain and ran normal...

Data point.

Hm. My engine overheat light went on once. No change in running. 118 F outsde. Stopped, cooled off, went on with no problems. No skip-spark.

LJM - 118F in Alaska? Or did you venture to Phoenix?

Unless you dropped to idle I don't think you'd notice.
On the throttle it felt/sounded normal, when I'd stop and drop to idle she sounded like a small single not a big twin...

I have a tunable ECM on the way as I suspect I'm a bit lean on fueling.

Should be on the dyno in the next week or two to find out.

Mine has gotten into nuclear territory (over temp code) only once, and lesson learned: Mine gets toasty warm at ANY outside temp when traveling at less than 50 mph, as advised by EBR when I picked it up.

FWIW I got a "special" ECM from EBR (for off-road use only...naturally!) upon my request for a tune that didn't resemble the initial 1125R tuning: surging at lower speeds. It helped a LOT on surging and probably a little on the heat. I've since gone to the race pipe and matching EBR ECM. It still gets pretty toasty if I try and ride in town.

It goes into the skip part mode when it gets dangerously hot.

One thing everyone might think about...
I wrapped my headers in the DEI "volcanic" header wrap.

Since the following is fact.

The rear header tube is -
VERY close to the water pump.
Very close to the clutch.
Sorta close to the right side radiator
Sorta close to the frame (gas tank).

And the front header tube is -
VERY close to the starter.
VERY close to the radiator crossover.
Very close to both radiators.

A LOT of the header heat is going directly into the "coolant" system..! Right where we don't want it.

I wrapped the rear header a coupla weeks ago. I noticed a definite difference in the heat on my leg/ankle on the 90+degree days here in SoCal.

I finally got the front tube off yesterday to wrap it also.
Both tubes have two layers of the wrap on them.

My morning trip to work isn't bad. Both the temperature and the traffic (mostly) is ok at 4:30 in the morning.
But the traffic and temperature at 4pm stinks. 90+ temps (lately) and 30mph, lasting about an hour..!
I'm kinda surprised that I haven't had the "skip". Maybe I at least got some of the extra heat quelled by wrapping at least the rear header tube before most of the higher heat got here.
That's also why I took the time to get the front wrapped.

And in case anyone is wondering...I've been wrapping my bike (and some car) headers with wrap for many years with zero problems. I have three FZR/R1 Yamahas with near or over 100,000 miles on wrapped headers.
This new(er) Volcanic wrap is much better than the old white stuff that was originally sold. Looks better and lasts much longer.

Mike

P.s. - My 1125CR and my XB12s has their headers wrapped.

Bruce,
Yes, I was in Phoenix. We die here in Anchorage when it gets to 75. Doesn't happen often though.

I see you are in Berryville. My son lives in Round Hill. Nice place.

Well, I got her on the dyno yesterday.
All stock minus the resonator side-can, 144 peak HP.
The good news, fueling looked very close to stoch, not very lean at all.
13:1 at 6krpm+.
Stop-n-go is still a no-no.

Tunable ECM is on the way.
Talked with Kevin Drum, new exhaust is imminent.
The chase continues.

I tried once to ride my RS on the street, not highway, in normal So Cal summer traffic. Once.
