I know this is a long shot...but.
Any of you with the RX and a non-factory license plate holder/tail light interested in selling the original/stock tail light assembly ?

Thanks

Mike

No, just the main single piece.
Looking at the different ways of shortening the long stalk.
I like the basic light, just not the overall size.

Price ?

Thanks

Mike

Have you come up with any options on the tail light, I too want to shorten the stock and custom make a tail tidy.

Dual -

I came up with what I think is usable..!?
The "stalk" is tapered so the two pieces will telescope into one-another. So cutting it into two pieces, leaving about 2" still part of the light (or light housing section) portion.
I trimmed the "mount" section so that it's only about .38" long. I then "fitted" the mount section so that it has the same contours as the top of the light housing, for a nice tight fit.
I drilled a hole in each side of the long portion of the stalk to fit a piece of .04" wire to act like a safety if the epoxy broke, to hold the lower portion in the mount portion. I seriously doubt any of it will break, but the wire will hold it together...just in case..!
I used a .312" drill to open a coupla "pockets" in the areas where the epoxy would be to act as a footing to better hold itself together.
I used JB Weld to bond it all.
You have to do some "shimming" to make sure that the light is square with the mount so that the light sits parallel to the ground and is pointed in a good direction, up & down and side to side .

After the first "bonding", because of the taper size difference, there ended up some pockets. I inserted the "safety" wire and and added some more JB Weld to hold the wire and fill the voids.

The light is now nice and tight against the underside of the tail. I'm sticking with the stock turn indicators, for now anyway.
I also trimmed the side reflectors off and cleaned up the cuts.

Hope this is all understandable..!

Mike

P.s. - after the epoxy set up, I trimmed the leftover "stalk" that sticks up thru the mount plate so that it's not too long. I trimmed it about .25" above the safety wire. Then deburred all of the sharp edges so that no wires would be cut.

Sounds kind of like this...

Or did I miss something?

1313 -

I can't see the pictures, but from reading the posts, yes, except that I shortened mine about as much as it can be shortened and still be able to bond it together.
It's "almost" to the point of bolting the light "housing" to the tail (as another suggested).

As noted, my "stalk" is about .38" long.

PMs go to the Email address you put in your profile. Sometimes they wind up in your spam folder. Look at your preferences section to make sure you are not blocking PMs. Put your email address in the section "Information about you".
