Hey Guys... I'm at a loss for what to do. I pulled my rx out of storage today put the key in and I got nothing. I plugged in a charger, long story to why it wasn't plugged in all winter, left it on for a few hours and I still get nothing. The dash doesn't even light up.
I check the fuse box and relays... is there a main relay that could be burned out that I am not seeing?

If not, anyone have any ideas.

I would assume your battery is toast.

I thought that, but every time i've had battery issues with a bike you get a little juice out of them.

Oh and apparently a few weeks ago it was making a buzzing sound. not while running or even with the key in it.

I hauled my SX from northern Michigan to Dayton Beach for Bike week. (I purchased SX in end of December meant to get the charger from EBR, big mistake waiting!). I started the bike in the garage a day before I departed for DB, it struggled starting. By the time I got to DB driving through the cold weather etc. the battery died. The EBR factory guys perched at Jim Walker Motorcycle in DB identified immediately the cause of bike not lighting the instrument cluster...dead battery! I had also tried to jump the bike with my Buell 1125CR , apparently I also fried the main fuse. They replaced both and bike has fired up every time since! They said that the dealer should be hooking these batteries up to the Shorai charger frequently as the battery has a drain on it to keep the bike's electronics system "energized", they said these batteries need to be on the Shorai battery tender to keep it in peak charge. I just bought a charger from NRHS in Co. he is giving 10% discount to BW's to boot. The charger P/N is Z2350.1B7, best $76 investment so far!

Where is the main fuse?

I pulled both seats off and didn't see it, did I just miss it.

Yep the stock lithium battery doesn't behave like lead batteries in other bikes. It is likely toast.

Do I have to put a lithium battery back in?

The EBR factory guys said that you could put in standard battery, they use the Shorai to help reduce the total weight of the bike. They felt the Shorai was a better choice of battery if it's maintained properly. IMHO no matter what battery you use a battery tender is important, particularly if your in a state that you cannot ride year round, even then it helps extend the life of the battery. IMHO
I believe that the main fuse in in the fuse box under the passenger seat.
Opinions are like ass holes and belly buttons, every body has em' some are just bigger than others! LOL
I believe the main fuse is under the passenger seat in the fuse box.

As far as i know, a normal battery tender like a Deltran hooked up to the batt + & - posts can be used to maintain the Shorai. The special Shorai charger is likely a "better" unit because it can normalize the charge between cells but it's not really necessary if a common trickle charger works to keep the batt up.

That is incorrect.
A Deltran tender will not work properly to maintain battery charge with the Shorai battery.
It will work to partially bring voltage voltage up, but will not maintain charge at the proper level for a 100% charge with the Shorai battery.
The Shorai charger will maintain charge as well as monitor cell voltage levels.

For example, a 100% charged Shorai battery rests at a higher voltage than a lead-acid battery that the standard Deltran Tender is designed to maintain.

Yep, that's what the factory EBR guys told me. You could get away with a very short term use of standard battery trickle charge, but not recommended. In the end you need the special monitoring features that the Shorai charger does for their battery.

Just a quick update for everyone... I called Shorai to get a new battery, since they don't even have the model on-line to purchase and they ended up replacing mine under the warranty.
They suggested not using a trickle charger to maintain the battery but if you aren't going to ride it for a week or two the best thing to do is unhook the negative cable.
They have the nicest customer service I have dealt with in a long time, they even gave me a good deal on the correct charger so I won't have this problem in the future.

We sell Lithium Ion batteries now for 3 years and have a bit of experience with it. Also we had the first LI in the EBR 1190 RR racebikes and have it today in the CCM and EBR bikes.

OF COURSE! Nothing I write here is related to any of that brands, better follow the instruction book.

1. These batteries have in general a tendence to like to have a quick warm-up before they supply full power. If your bike wont start and starter runs slow, switch on parking light and wait for a minute and try again.

2. Never Charge These batteries when they are very cold below Zero Celsius. In that case take the battery inside for 24 hours and Charge it inside.

3. If you have a "dead" battery it maybe just not detected anymore by your modern charger. Even some Lithium Ion Chargers have Problems to detect deeply discharged batteries. In that case take one of that old battery chargers without electronic and Charge the battery for a very short time (5-10 minutes). Then disconnect the conventional charger and connect a LI charger. Very often now they Charge now and the battery will supply full power again.

4. NEVER use any kind of conventional TURBO charger Units with 14,7 Volt, because LI batteries can burn or the internal fuse might blow.

Good Luck

Jens

I had a similar issues with mine. It seemed like my battery was dead,it would only click when I tried to start it. Long story short, somehow my starter died. I posted several times as Another Buell on AF1. Maybe you have a similar issue.

So I got a new battery, put it in the bike... starts up and runs, but I have no gauges, the turnsignals don't work and when I take the key out it still clicks and sounds like something is trying to go... I checked all the fuses under the rear seat, they look ok. Anyone have any ideas?

Spitfire,
I would 1st disconnect the new battery so that it's not damaged by whatever is going on with the bike.
Then my next step would be to talk to the dealer and have them look at it.

Trouble is the closest dealer is an hour away... the dealer that I bought it from, that also thought connecting a trickle charger to my battery was a good idea decided not to carry EBR any more. I already disconnected the new battery, just very frustrating because I wanted to ride tomorrow.

If (and that's IF - I have zero experience with Shorai batteries) it's the same as any other motorcycle, jump start it from a NOT RUNNING automobile and ride it. I would guess (again - zero experience here) the stator on the bike will properly charge the battery as you ride. Plan your stops, though, in case it doesn't.

And still get the correct charger for after you park it, so you can get the battery properly topped-off.

What is that, fancytalk for park on top of a hill facing away from traffic, so you can bump start it? : D

I think you misunderstood, the bike starts and runs just fine. I just can't tell how fast I am going or let other drivers which direction I am turning. I am going to call the dealer once they open... I'll keep you all posted as to what the problem is.

It's a ground problem. There is a ground connection near the steering head. Not sure exactly where on the RX. Even if it looks and feels tight, loosen it and retighten. Also unplug and re plug the harness connections in the front. Fixing the ground, will fix it 99% of the time.

And just to confirm, NEVER use a lead acid trickle charger on an Li battery. You can use a standard, non-automatic, no frills regular charger to charge a partially discahared Li battery, but you need to monitor the voltage as it gets close to being fully charged. A completely dicharged Li battery is usually gone for good as often the cell(s) develop a short.
Many modern bikes have a parasitic current draw when off, that will kill a Li battery within a month or less if left connected. I have Shorai batteries on my bench that are fully charged after a year of sitting disconnected. You wont need a trickle charger if you disconnect the battery. If you have somewhat over discharged the battery, it will come back with a charger, but wont hold a charge as long when disconnected.
Bottom line - disconnect your Li battery if the bike will sit for a week or more.

I'll pull the front off tonight and see if I can find the ground, hopefully that's all it is. Would be nice to get it out this weekend.

I bought the correct charger from Shorai and I plan on disconnecting the battery from now on when I wont be riding for longer then a week or two.

The Shorai BMS charger has a "store" mode that you can set it on. In this mode it will act as a battery maintainer. No need to disconnect the battery if you set it on "store" mode.

I didn't have any luck finding a ground on the steering head, I did find one down near the gear shifter. But it didn't help. Any tips on where the ground might be?

The 1190RX wiring diagram shows ground 1 connected to the front frame, ground 2 to the front cylinder, and ground 3 to the chassis, right off the battery. You might be able to trace one to find where it is landed. They should all be black wires. Ground 1 on the front frame goes to the auxiliary connector, the clutch switch, the instrument cluster, and the front turn signals. Ground 2 on the front cylinder hits the horn, key switch relay, ignition relay, starter solenoid, voltage regulator, fuel pump, then front and rear coils. Ground 3 on the chassis right off the battery hits rear turn signals, tail light, and license plate light, crank position sensor, six pins on the ECM, then the auxiliary relay.
