I've read that 3 of the major Asian manufactures are adding a forced induction bike to the inventory. I wonder if EBR is going to add one? I know that was an idea with the XB. We can only hope.

I used to get a kick explaining what the hole thru the frame on my XB was designed for.

As far as what EBR is doing? We don't need to know, it's double top secret. Bold new rumors?

The XB9 was supposed to be turbocharged. HD killed it because they didn't want to let Buell outsource the turbo, and failed miserably in designing one in house.

That would have been *such* a cool bike with a turbo.

7200 RPM air cooled twin with turbo popping and howling? A super reliable 110 HP lightning?

Boy would that have been fun.

The figure I read was 150. For brief periods of time. The ECM monitored engine temperatures, and cut boost if necessary. Word was, they had a reliable product. Wouldn't work in a race, of course, because it couldn't sustain it, but for those "I need to accelerate HARD" situations on the street, it would have been perfect.

The Kawasaki H2 is supposed to be premiered on Tuesday. Kawi says it is "Built beyond Belief". Sneak bits here and there in Kawi promos. Carbon fiber bits, supposedly variable capacity supercharger. Rumors of top speeds well in excess of 200 MPH.

The new H2, or Godzilla returns (on amine compounds).

It will be so expensive that an EBR will seem cheap.

I have no idea about others.

The article I read about the H2 said two other manufactures were also introducing forced induction but it didnt say who or what type.

It also said that Kawasaki is rumored to be introducing a supercharged litre bike for track use only that will exceed 300 hp.

Here is a sound clip (btw this is not the original article I wa reading).

When I read lines like, Speaking of the Intense Force Design, Kawasaki says, “Tt has a functional beauty, with each piece of bodywork aerodynamically sculpted to help ultra-high speed stability. Then I know the press release was written by some PR Flack. Sharp edges are not aerodynamic below the speed of sound. It was styled by some group of class valedictorians from the Bonzai School of Origami.
With a blower, I have no doubt that the bike makes a lot of horsepower. However, the styling is just styling. And since I don't care for the Nouveau Transformers trend in motorcycle styling, I think it resembles a bucket of razor blades. Even more than the KTM RC8 does.
To quote Mr. Natural, "None for me, thanks!"

I wonder if the AX will have hard bags, and if it does, will there be a kit that lets you put a set on an SX? Supposedly, there's a windscreen or windshield coming for the SX. With a set of good bags to go with an effective screen, the SX would become one hell of a sweet Sport - Tourer.
(Just don't tell Erik; he still believes that Sport-Tourers won't sell!)

Just as the off road capable SUV has as well. There are a a few legit duel sport guys who adventure tour but the vast majority are either or type riders. IMHO

With a touring kit similar to the Diavel Multistrada kits the SX would sport tour well. Says the guy with a 633 mile day comfortably done on an RX.

There's a very fine variety of bikes coming our way in 2015 w/ a lot of bells and whistles and some are priced fairly reasonable, I just hope EBR isn't behind the 8 ball.

I would love to have seen EBR come out w/ something like the Yamaha FZ-07 and FZ-09. Now I hear that Yamaha has a "FJ-09" in the works and it's rumored to be priced around the $10,000.00 mark.

Then you have the BMW offerings, revealed yesterday, like R1200 RS and naked version. No doubt these will carry a premium price but look at what you are getting for your money not to mention the warranty.

And to think; people whined at the price of an 1190 RS.
So let's see;

1) It's an I 4
2) It has a supercharger
3) It's not even street legal.

That's three strikes.
The part that makes me chuckle is that Kumensukmi is bragging about it.
I'd put it in the same category as some of the V twin customs in the same price range. I wonder if it'll sell about like the Honda Rune did?

Yeah. Being a "buy used" guy, I thought the EBR was overpriced, until I saw the insane prices of new 600's and 1000's.

$10k for a 600 inline four? What's gone wrong with the industry? It should be $6k in R trim, and $5k with cheaper street suspension. It's a beat it up and throw it away inline four 600.

Yamaha has followed suit with a 3rd Nov 2014 release of their "level Z" supersport. I doubt it will be as pricey as the street version of the H2. But there is talk of a race only version of that model as well so who knows. May be EBR should bring the RS back to the model line up for 2015 with all the bells and whistles it would still be cheaper than $60K

It's clear from the size of those chicken strips that they never came close to anything resembling a corner during the entire ride...

I know of or am contact with 27 different RS owners so that still leaves about 100 without homes that I'm aware of.

27 different bikes or owners . . . several owners have purchased multiple bikes.

Still leaves better than 100 looking for a home . . .

At least it'll be fun to look at them in dealers . . . and there may be a new market, with some for the pricey new bikes coming out, for the $44,000 units.

When you look at what you can get an RS for at this point, and have few mods to do to race it, it really is a value now. Race plastics, traction control, tires, you are in business. I expect they will go.

I expect they will too . . . frankly, I was kind of expecting them to go like Ducati's US$70,000 Desmosedici RR . . with the entire production selling before the first bike was built.

How long do you think it will take to move the remaining 100 units? Do you think the new 1190 models dilute the sell-ability of the remaining RSs?

I would guess over the next year, but EBR is in a pretty weak position because the remaining ones are out there in the hands of the dealers, most of whom are not sure how to sell it. If EBR could actually make contact with the potential buyers directly, i.e. sell directly to racers, it might go better. Another factor that will affect this market is the direction that homologation goes in MotoAmerica. I know that they are targeting WSBK rules, but if the reduced homologation to benefit Bimota basically allows more RS models to run vs. only RX's, that will be a significant impact.

I think that new ones will have less and less impact on the RS models because they are a different buyer group and the RS is getting harder to find, and has its own niche.

One of the factors that will be a big RS selling point (unless someone like Rodrob who does race argues otherwise) is that the RS is really more durable and THAT easily justifies the initial cost.

For my part, I would also like to see the firebreathing monster that Erik conceived of for the RS being available, either as a new model of RS, and (for purely personal reasons) as a retrofit for the existing RS models. We know he designed it to be capable of 230+ hp, cooling and component-wise.

Just my .02. May be all wet though.

Hmmmmm . . . interesting.

Curious as to where these dealers are? I would never have guessed they were in the hands of dealers. Is that a guess or fact?

That would be good news though, coupled with . . as you suggest . . a factory effort to market to racers. I'll bet racers would jump at the chance to snag a proven racing platform, complete with the cf body, for $44,000.

I didn't realize they'd been sold to dealers. . . that may complicate things.

I know #10 is for sale at AF1 racing. The knock on the 1190 is it lacks power and topend. The reality because of how and where it makes its power it just isn't as visceral to ride. Ride it hard and it disappears beneath you. 2015 is bringing a crop of machines with electronics to harnesses 200hp plus machines vying for bragging rights. To sell bikes you have to declare your product the best of or at something. EBR needs to get out front on what that is for them

Actually, Court, I have only identified a couple hands full at dealers by searching the internet and websites. I just presumed that they were out there. Interestingly, I know of one who tried to get one and couldn't. So the question remains as you stated, "where are they?" If they are still in East Troy, modifications and updates could be accomplished and outreach done.

I'm no pro by any stretch of the imagination but riding the RX on the track the last thing that comes to mind with the TC off is "if only had 200 more cc's" its the topend where I loose ground to the zx10 and S1KRR. We get off apex about the same. You can twist more if you want but you'll just get it to spin up for your trouble.

I have never wished I had more power on the street on this bike, even though I have on others.

I was in the Ducati, Kawasaki, BMW, Truimph shop today looking for a jacket for my daughter, and talked to them a while about 2015.

Their best guesses:

1. RC8 going to 1290.

2. S1000rr as seen in press releases, but the new bodyworks provides significant down pressure. Also, they have lightened it considerably and the race exhaust takes off another 12. Quickshifter up and down.

3. Panigale going to 1299. Improved electronics, etc.

4. H2 street coming shortly. What to say about that. Supposed to handle well and be light, relatively.

I also saw and heard the 1290 superduke with aftermarket exhaust. Wow! Most looked at bike in their shop. No takers though. After the sale over, about 19K out the door.

Interestingly, he says that nothing will sell if over 20K, and the few exotics in this market that they could get can't be over 30. Interesting given that the median harley here is 22K.

The bike’s $72,500 MSRP excludes me from the buyer’s list, but given the fact that the entire 500 units for the United States sold out in five hours when the Desmosedici RR was originally introduced, the bike is sure to find its customers extremely easy.

Yep, different times, different bike, and different market. But however you look at it, Ducati has a huge following. If there are 100,000 of them out there, some are bound to have the money and inclination to buy the top of the line replica bikes. They are willing to spend money.

We have to get those 100,000 out there.

And . . . there have never been more folks with lots of disposable income. It's amazing how, following the market activity the last couple years, how vehicles are selling.

I watch the parking lot near where I work and am amazed at the number of young kids that have taken the bait on the new "affordable" Maserati, the CLA63's (if you're willing to wait in line) and just the other night I notice the guy down the street popped for a Porsche 918.

Folks have never, in history, had more disposable income.

Great time to be selling expensive toys.

Yep, that was the year after Bayliss won the WSBK championship on a Ducati (I had to go back and check my memory) and they won the manufacturer championship. Stoner was second in motogp, and Ducati was second in the manufacturer standings. They definitely had some positive press going.

Which has nothing to do with sales.

The Panigale is for all intents an outstanding motorcycle. The SL version is more so. A Ducati is still a symbol of wealth amongst the moto community. You can't beat them by equaling them on performance alone. Its going to take more than a bike as good as the 1199 but that feels like an 1198 to make any dent in that market share.
