I guess there's something wrong with my wrist/hand now, I was going to ride to work today, I made it about 3/4 of a mile from home and had to turn back and park the RX. What are my options for softening the clutch pull, ie; less effort required? I don't mind spending a little money, but I don't want to just throw it at the bike and hope it works.

I'm going on the assumption that I now have the beginnings of carpal tunnel syndrome, my left hand is weakened, has pain and feels like either someone stuck pins in my hand or I got a mild electric (somewhat painful) shock to the hand when I squeeze anything. I will be going to see a doc about this very soon, it was downright painful trying to pull the clutch lever in this morning.

2015 models have a lighter pull, I don't know what is involved with retrofitting

EBR told me there will be a retrofit kit made available for the 2014's. Did not tell me what's involved or how much. I assume a different master cylinder.

Bummer about the carpal pain. I hope its not serious. I only notice its a heavy pull at really long stop lights now. Almost never think about it now.

I'm sure you know but you may also want to make sure its adjusted for properly for your wrist angle and size of your hands. The lever should fall in the meaty part of the middle section of your middle finger. Further out and you loose leverage and make the pull extra hard, too far in and you get the same thing and loose feel as well.

Of course you want to also adjust the angle so that in your normal riding position your wrist never has to flex UP to squeeze the levers, but stays flat as your fingers go over the levers.

A retro fit kit reasonably priced would be an excellent item to have on sale at AIMExo ( Hint Hint EBR).

I know it doesn't help Dean, but I swear that the clutch pull on the 1190RX that I bought is lighter than the 1190RX that I demo'ed.

That's not to say it's exactly light, but I have gotten used to it.

The first time I rode my 1125CR after spending some seat time on my 1190RX, I found that I could pull the clutch lever in on the 1125CR with 2 fingers.

Like Classax I only notice the heavy pull at really long stop ligths now,

Definitely see a doc, but I'd imagine your wrist problem is more a result of the pressure from riding with clip-ons rather than the clutch pull. Added pain when pulling in the clutch is probably a symptom rather than the cause.

The ASV levers help at bit. I have them adjusted to require only the necessary amout of pull to disengage the clutch which is less than 3 inches. Quite a bit less pull than OEM.

I normally don't copy/paste emails that I get, but this isn't "protected" information that I wouldn't share. I had thought a smaller bore M/C would accomplish the lighter pull with the proper leverage point.

"We will have a kit available for purchase that will include a clutch slave cylinder and clutch springs which can be retrofit to 2014 models to lower the lever effort similar to what 2015 models will have.

We don’t have a release date available for the kit yet."

Interesting.

Was the e-mail:

1) Sent directly to you?
2) A broadcast to all owners?
3) in the "Owners Section" of the EBR website?

My curiosity is piqued in that there currently does not appear to be a cohesive communication.owner interaction process. I get e-mails from a number of owners and dealers and sense a growing level of frustration with the "I made a contact at the factory . . . . " means of conveying information.

You can see the constraints this would impose on potential growth.

I find this thread a little concerning as a "hopefully soon buyer".

This sort of thing would have been perfectly understandable back in HD days, where everything had to be approved through Mothership Management and their vast network of legal advisers, but I'd have thought at EBR it would be a matter of Erik walking 2 cubes over from his office and saying "Hey, Joe- fix this on the website. Can you get it done today?"

Very strange.

This is really becoming a huge issue for potential buyers. If they are going to spend Ducati money for a bike “perceived” as not quite up to Ducati fit and finish, there needs to be an OUTSTANDING Ownership Experience to make up for it. If the factory doesn't have the personnel or funds to do it, license an official "Owners Cub" where they can legally control the content so some exuberant owner can get the word out for you. I can't believe I'm going to say this but, it can't just be about the machines.

I know they are scrambling to set up a lot of things but not having things like an owners portal, service manuals and the like is costing them valuable sales.

I recently talked with a guy who said after riding a few bikes and then SX, it was a great bike if it had been built 8 years ago, no way he spend the money when there are cheaper bikes with more features.

To which I asked What features?
*ABS? Racers and Hooligans don’t want it and those that have just turn it off.
*More Power? HP4 and 1199 aren’t cheaper and EBR has more power than them both everywhere from 3.5k until 11K.
*Ride Modes? 4 vs 21,
*More stuff on the display? I hardly look at whats on there now, its like flying almost.
*what? Name recognition, aftermarket support, dealer/tech knowledge, owner experience. Yea you GOT me there.

Buy a Duc or a BMW heck even a Kawi and there is a whole owner experience thing to plug into.

>>>I emailed directly

Thank you for making my point.

How much cooler would it have been if, at the point of purchase, you'd been handed an iPad mini with:

  • exclusive "O2 - Owner Only" weekly or monthly updates from the factory. It can be "low content" . . "we had a volleyball game at lunch" . . but it builds an emotional conduit.
  • A video service manual - go through the index (identical to prior Buell service manuals), click on "oil change" or "adjust primary tension" and you pop right into an always up to date with the latest CORRECT (unlike paper manuals) YouTube video that walks you through the procedure.
  • 24/7 access to emergency help
  • Find closest dealer function
  • Parts catalog
  • Ability to browse, order, be notified upon delivery at dealer and collect parts.
  • Fun facts: parts and accessories (this would have to be once things have reach "certain" stage and are just awaiting release.

This kind of stuff used to be "star wars" level . . now it's an 8th grade class project.

To change the face of a business, you need to change the culture.

I went to work for Honda the day after I graduated from High School. The culture at the dealer, and the company warmly invited the curious, and put forth "The Message".

The most successful companies operate with a projection of their condition, status, and intrigue the potential customer with what is coming.

Being "Double top secret" about everything is bassackwards. I limit my interaction to vendors that are open and communicate well, an in a timely manner. There is much to be learned.

While not as Court would say "a demographic target" for the RX or SX, I certainly am regarding a possible HX purchase. (currently Honda, Hero, and KTM are in my market strategy) Since EBR will be the distributor and recognized as heavily involved in the development of the Hero models, it would make some degree of business sense to get some info out there.

The Honda is sitting in the showroom. The KTM is supposed to be available around Christmas. WTF about the Hixxer? It is lighter, makes the same power as the Honda, even with a 50cc deficit, and it has "EBR" DNA. If the fit and finish is good, there is a very good chance that I will be one of the first owners, why not. The now Highly Touted KTM 390 is in fact built in India by Bajaj, another Hero competitor.

What is going on here? Culture problem. Never mind the "tiny company is busy" BS. Product placement is the cornerstone of sales. Make it easy for the prospective customer.

I'd take a website, possibly a username and password to get in and I'd be happy with that type of content. The service manual would be the best possible thing for me right now, all the other stuff is just icing on the cake. Even if it was publicly available web front end, I'd be fine with that as well, but it takes a little bit of manpower to host and manage something of that nature. I'd be fine with a print manual, or a pdf of one that I can look up whatever I want/need. Videos are nice, but not needed for me. I'm comfortable taking things apart and putting them back together.

Having a web front end to browse parts and then order from, yep, that would be nice. AF1 has some stuff available, but it's HORRIBLY overpriced. EBR had the front rotor mount hardware priced at $49 or so. To get it now, AF1 thinks I'll buy individual pieces totaling $281 for the same thing. Nope, not going to buy from there. I'll sell the bike first.

I've been around long enough to have gotten a couple of phone numbers or names of people that I can call and get a relatively direct answer from if need be, although I've never really had much of a problem with email either.

I have been reading the service manual for my 1125R in depth during the last few weeks and I have thought on many occasions what an undertaking assembling all the information, pictures, etc. for a complete service manual.

I am not making excuses for EBR because they certain should have a service manual available by now, but that book must take WAY more resources than most people realize...

I smile frequently because my 2008 manual has a front index that is completely wrong, but thankfully the index in the back of the book is correct. I just keep my fingers crossed the information in the manual is correct.

He got to mine fine with out dropping the engine. The bikes are super easy to work on in terms of getting at things. Its just I'm one of the guys that has digital calipers and actually uses a torque wrench. Plus there are tricks to this bike. A former dealer took close to an hour to get the front wheel off. Took me less than 5 minutes. So the service manual really would help. Then there are items like prepping it for track days. How to remove the license plate braket, adjust the controls, foot pegs, levers and such. The bike comes with mulit position rearsets and their is no mention of it in the owners manual, let alone the torque spec for the shift and brake pedal adjustments. With all the gadgets people use today GPS, laptimers, go pros, no mention of the Aux power plug location or type.

Its the little things that will really could separate the EBR from its competition. To be honest I'm curious what the technical reason behind the clutch level effort was. It may be worth defending instead of just changing it.

Annon-

the people who are buying these bikes are used to a well oiled parts and service supply chain in support of their bikes. More than half will be people who track it and do their own wrenching. A quarter of them will be Ducati converts who will want a similar sense of community. I think EBR has built one HECK of bike!! But there are things you can0 do to help sell them better, and one of them is lots of information for the owners post sale.

Go EBR!

If the SX was a 2015 then it already had revised clutch. Are all SX 2015 ?? or are some 2014?? I have no idea.

I know back in APRIL/MAY time frame my dealer told me they did not have service manuals and had to go directly to EBR for tech support ... perhaps that has changed.

If Service manuals are available .. why can't we purchase or download them?

Does EBR have a contract with dealers about not releasing the service manuals to consumers? I can understand dealers handling Warranty Repair .. but the owner should be able to handle Maintenance.

That would be pretty strange . . . how many, I wonder, among our number would plop down the better part of $20K for a mechanical device and shrug off "we won't release the service manual?"

I don't see EBR EVER, under any circumstances doing that. In addition to risking running afoul of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act there is conceivably some real liability issues . . . I can see someone torquing their pinch bolts using a "best guess".

Ain't happening.

For years . . . late service and parts manuals were a huge battle with the technical publications folks at HD. I expected to be able to buy an 1190 service manual a couple years ago when the bike was released. Be mindful this motor is headed into it's 3rd year.

I'm with Reep on this . . . . I'll bet it gets done quick and it's super cool to see these new EBR's in the showrooms. There were 5 in Big Boyz Toys the other day and the workmanship is absolutely extraordinary.

I got the same promise from EBR through email. They will give me info if I need it before the service manual is available. That was all I needed to calm me down. I was not happy with no service information and no option other than hand it over to someone else with no service info. When I made my deal with the EBR dealer to purchase my 1190RX, I had a few items that were possible deal breakers. I told them that. One item I required was a copy the service manual. They told me it was on the memory stick with my owners manual. I purchased my 1190RX, paid in full, put it on my trailer, and headed to Deals Gap, Tennessee for the Buell Dragon event. We were on a tight schedule with our traveling. It was not until the next day in Deals Gap that I discovered there was no service manual on the memory stick. I rode to a location with a cell signal and called the dealer. At that time, they told me there was no service manual available. I was one very unhappy customer until EBR said they would provide info if needed. I have since found another dealer I have had good dealings with, and EBR has been extremely helpful.

I wonder if a rubber band on the clutch lever could help...

The valve and tune tolerances are on the sticker on the sub frame
So we are maintaining the motor from the data plate. Great just like an old plane.

Yes but in a strange sort of way, I kind of like it. Both of my cars are so complex now that even changing the oil requires being careful with not confusing the software that monitors oil life. Its nice to have a vehicle I can turn the wrenches on and all it does is turn the hardware.
