LOL .. guess I ain't as wealthy as you guys .. I paid retail and 6% interest. Thats $4K difference in discounts + interest. I will pay it off with my Xmas bonus so the interest rate won't hurt me too bad. And the other $2k would pay for all the service intervals for as long as I would own it ..

At first I was a bit upset when I saw this because I was contemplating selling my rx and this killed my resale value, but I decided to keep her now. It still irks me a bit, but I figure we all knew it would happen. As an early adopter, I just consider my 18,999$ as an investment into EBR and their future, an investment that reaps the huge benefit of an incredible machine that never fails to make me giggle like a schoolgirl.

Maybe this will convince some of those that weren't 100% sure they wanted to do the cash to go ahead and do so.

While the extra 2K would have been nice in my pocket, I've had the chance to ride the bike since March, where as many who take advantage of this deal are up against the end of the riding season.

That said many complained the bike was too expensive for what you were getting compared to the 1199 and RSV4. Economy of scale allows the bikes to be cheaper. At this price it beats the Pani and the Aprilia while still slightly cheaper isn't THAT much better. Good Show EBR!

NOt as bad as the 2009 fire sale. I got in on the 1125 firesale back in 2009 and picked up an 1125CR for $6k .. The folks that paid $12K for their 1125's had to feel like they were donkey kicked in the head! $2K priced reduction nothing compared to that. Of course it ruined the resale value of 1125's.

Nope, bought my 1125CR in August 2009, then when the fire sale happened I picked up an 1125R to go with it : )

It didn't, the resale value on them was crap even before the firesale. Even on the XBs, I picked up a year old XB12SS for $4k

This pricing makes me want an RX even more, but I am still holding out for the AX.

I bought a 2000 M2 for $5000 in 2001, sold it for very little depreciation, and really enjoyed the bike.

I bought a 2005 XB9SX for $8000 in 2005, sold it for quite a bit of depreciation, and really enjoyed the bike.

I bought a 2007 Uly for $5000 in 2009, and it has depreciated very little, and I really enjoy the bike.

*shrug*

I have never bought a motorcycle with resale value in mind. I buy motorcycles for what I want in a bike and how it makes me feel. Every time I've bought a bike that I really liked and wanted, somebody came up to me to tell me I could have gotten it somewhere else for less. So; I paid more when I bought it, and got less when I sold it.
You know what? They were still worth the money and I didn't notice the difference, money wise. I always got enough enjoyment out of the bikes that they were a bargain.

Rationalization is a wonderful thing ... But if you bought your RX yesterday for $18,995 .. and TOday its $16,995 .. your gonna be pissed.

This is my first Buell (EBR) I bought for MSRP.

2006 XB12Scg - $8795 on clearance
2009 1125CR - $6,000 on clearance
2009 XB12Scg - traded my CR for it
2006 XB12R - $4K used - traded it back towards the 1190RX and got $4K .. so rode for free.

I also have a 2013 Ducati Monster .. and I paid MSRP for that as well.

I don't buy any of my toys for resale value either .. a toys a toy to me.

Buying a motorcycle with resale value in mind is like marrying a women with divorce in mind.

You're never going to take her out and have fun with her, put her between your legs and drive her through the corners or lean her over hard. You will always be worried about replacing parts. Then there is the motorcycle.

Seriously, motorcycles are toys to be played with not pampered. If you want an investment buy a Mutual Fund. Sure it's nice to pay the least amount for one but in the end, ride the thing!

Lol you're preaching to the choir. I put 5200 miles on my rx in 3 months. Rode the hell out of it. I just broke my leg and am on bed rest for 3 months and up to six months of recovery afterward so I had contemplated selling it, but suppose I won't now.

There is no dealer in the world who would not take an offer.

MSRP = Manufacturer's SUGGESTED Retail Price

quote:

The MSRP has gone the way of the dodo bird.

In the final days of its recently completed term, the U.S. Supreme Court struck down the rule that manufacturers can't set the prices retailers charge for their products. In ending this decades-old prohibition, the court may have ushered in years of uncertainty and litigation over when and how manufacturers can control prices.

For nearly a century, antitrust law has prevented manufacturers from entering into agreements with distributors and retailers to set minimum resale prices. Instead, manufacturers have been limited to "suggesting" prices -- as in the "manufacturer's suggested retail price," or MSRP -- and they have had little power to enforce their pricing policies.

The source of the prohibition on "resale price maintenance" is a 1911 Supreme Court opinion interpreting the Sherman Antitrust Act. The effect of that case, Dr. Miles Medical Co. v. John D. Park & Sons Co., has been to give discounters the freedom to reduce their margins to attract customers.

I'm not sure EBR will ever hold their value like Ducatis for a couple of reasons.

Ducati has name recognition as a status symbol, and a large Ducati fan base. As whole the vast majority aren't ridden very often and not very hard. I have over 6k on my RX since March 1st and I know guys in our riding group who have 3 and 4 year old Ducatis with way less miles than that.

The RX is more like the RSV4 or MV as an exotic. You have to be in the exotics "know" to be truly aware of what its value is. And like the Ape and the MV I would never suggest an EBR as a bike buy with the intent trade because the market for them just isn't that big. You have to pay to play, and if you want to play with something no one else has or knows much about you're going to pay more. $17K is great for a bike of this caliber. IMHO

Bmw s1000rrs dont hold value either. I paid 17,500 out the door last year and can only get 10,000 on a trade in. Ive put a little ove 10,000 miles on it. Dealers keep citing that its rated 2nd for catastrophic failures. Ive not seen much posted anywhere about that so i have no idea where they are coming up with that. Looks like im keeping her.

No, I guess I wouldn't expect that EBR to hold value like a Ducati. I'm not seeing friends selling their Triumph 675R or Honda 1000R either

Shame, that and the frequent valve checks are a couple strikes against it, though I'm not as concerned with resale.
