According to several news sources including Reuter's:

http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/07/01/hero-erb -idUSL3N0F714V20130701

Apparently EBR will work with them to sell Hero motorcycles in N America and Europe as well.

If this is anything like the HD acquisition, the EBR streetbikes will have a 150cc single and tiny little pogo forks!

Here's hoping they put ZTLs on some of their mopeds and stay hands off about Eric's stuff...

Today I am in Cali, Columbia. I have seen a number of Hero bikes here as well as ATK, yamaha, Suzuki. There are easily as many bikes here as cars and in this crowded environment they are practical and look fun. Looked close at the Heros and as well built as the others and you can buy basic 125 or so semi sport looking bike for $1800. For cities and commuting, I don't see the downside.

It absolutely had to be a minority stake … where I would stay in control.

I've lived in India for good part of my life and recall Hero used to be partnered with Honda for over 20 years. Hondas in India were sold with the badge "Hero-Honda." Now you have to remember that India is the world's largest democracy with over 1 billion people, most of them are motorcycle riders. I think Hero might be the largest manufacturer of motorcycles and bicycles in the world! Apparently, Hero cut off their ties with Honda and are now partnered with Buell. I think it's a great partnership for both companies, can't wait to see what we get in the North American market.

I believe Hero has built more motorcycles in the third week of January than Harley will build in the rest of the year.

I met a few Hero folks at Mid Ohio. I enjoyed talking to them, and they did a great job of not leaking any useful information to me. : )

>>>I think Hero might be the largest manufacturer of motorcycles and bicycles in the world!

You'd be correct.

>>>I believe Hero has built more motorcycles in the third week of January than Harley will build in the rest of the year.

You'd be correct.

Other things that, to me at least, are interesting.

Hero builds quite a few bikes . . . .

You do the math . . . .

Hero builds the same number of bikes in a year as Harley-Davidson does in ________ days.

If Hero wanted to but Harley-Davidson, lock, stock and barrel, (i.e. all the outstanding stock) it would require only ____ days of revenue or _______% of last years net profit.

Fun facts.

according to that article, Hero is interested in developing themselves as developer and sellers of global-scale two-wheeled vehicles. That is Harley's biggest downfall: they're not in the motorcycle business, they're in the "Harley" business. They hamstring themselves by refusing to cater to anyone but the "harley" crowd.

It's pretty exciting to see Erik Buell continuing to design bikes.

You know the weird numbering thing they've got going on in the audit sheet posted above? It's the Indian numbering system... 100,000 is known as 1 lakh (pronounced laack) and I think 1 million is 1 crore. In any case, that's why the comma looks like it's in a weird spot in the numbers.

Can't wait to see some Buells in showrooms again! All this sounds like there's the potential for Buells to take over the world! hahaha

Several folks laughed at me and told me I was full of shit when I made my prediction 3 years ago about where, relatively, Buell and Harley-Davidson would be 5 years after Harley-Davidson booted Erik and lots of my friends to the curb.

They . . . foolishly . . . .bet me a steak dinner.

I'm getting hungry.

A Buell take over does sound good. Court, I hope your prediction comes true and you get your steak dinner.

I still enjoy going to the Harley dealership, it's my favorite place to take a dump.
