So, I'm assuming since EBR is only producing a extremely limited amount of the RS models (less than last year) that teams currently using the RS will be switching to RX base bikes for the future?

Yeah there's a thread, they're building 2013's in Hero red, and blue, I think. They'll do the RX as the base model, and the RS will be the race homologation model, like an R-spec Ducati. IMO.

The RX will get the "stock" 1190 engine, the RS will get "race" cams, and the electronics they're developing for next season. Traction control or whatever it is, and the CF body work.

Again, in my opinion. Makes too much sense not to.

At Mid-Ohio, they rolled out what I thought was another 1190RS. I asked "When did they change the graphics on the 1190RS?" The response was "It's a 2013 model and it's an EBR RS.", implying it was no longer to be referred to as an 1190RS. The graphics back that up.

Let the discussion begin! To me it looks like the additional 35 2013 editions have diluted the limited edition-ness of the 1190RS by 35%!

Diluting, I will disagree to a point. The 1190RS is just a name at this point which now shares the same mechanical bits as the EBR RS BUT, while Erik only made 100 of the first generation RS bikes, I feel it will keep its value just because it was the first. That #1 means a lot these days.

My perception of the 1190RS was that it would be the sole run with all the high-end bits, preliminary to the full production models (1190RX), and only 100 made. I think of "limited" as including more than just "this year".

From the EBR Facebook page:

"We are currently building 35 more of these handbuilt ones in advance of ramping up the full production line for the RX."

Since running gear is the same, the "limited to 100" designation appears to be specific to model year 2012. But wouldn't 35 be more limited than 100? I may be taking things out of context in that maybe they'll be making as many 2013s as the market will bear (more than JUST 35).

...and the RS in the picture was serial #001 and looked VERY sweet in person. Coincidentally, there was a different RS a day earlier that had a red/white/blue scheme that mysteriously disappeared by Friday. Hmmm!!

I don't have any details, but the 2013 model is a little different including some tweaks to reduce the weight even further.

I would *assume* (and we all know what happens when you do that...) the '13 bike is less exotically-contented and more an example of a "pre-production" motorcycle, as opposed to the hand built full-exotic '12 bikes. Most likely the '13 is more aluminum/less titanium, more plastic/less CF, and more of a "production line practice run" if you will.

Still looks really damned sweet!

I was wanting to assume the same thing, but when I looked over the bike I didn't notice any differences. The EBR rep indicated it had aluminum wheels as standard, as did the 2012 RS. But it got me thinking the same as you: Maybe less exotic bits in 2013 in prep for production that I can't pick out.

But when someone else asked "How much?" and the answer was "$46k", I first almost choked, wondering what would increase the price, so I then thought there had to be "enhancements" that made the 2013 model MORE exclusive. I then "assumed" the price quoted was an error, but I didn't pursue it.

...and it WAS very sweet looking!

Again, they're probably going to make a few RS's every year for race homologation, that's probably why they're doing the '13s, to keep the 1190 AMA legal. Or maybe just to raise some extra money. If they sold 100 in a year, then logically 35 would definately all sell in a shorter time frame. Makes sense.

I don't think selling a handful of RS's every year for forever will hurt the value or exclusivity of the first run bikes at all.

I got the latest issue of RoadRacing World in the mail last night. The EBR ad is different, showing the EBR RS along with mentioning only 35 will be built.

There's also a small article in the issue about Hero buying 49% of EBR, that also mentions the production of the 1190RX is targeted to fulfill the requirements for WSB (World SuperBike).

Anyone happen to know how many units must be built to homologate for WSB (and how often it could change)?

I have a feeling now that BMW is pulling out of WSB the 1000 bike rule may be as dead as a dodo. May not happen for the 2014 season but if the field is down to 15 to 18 bikes allowances will be made.

If I remember correctly 1000 bikes don't have to be produced by the beginning of the season. It is more like 1000 by the time 3/4 of the season is done. Then again I might be completely wrong.

I saw a comment on another forum that the 1000 had to be made by the end of the season that the bike is raced in. Of course I could be completely wrong too. But wouldn't it be great to vacation in Europe and take in a WSB race to see the EBR's run?

Don't hold your breath. WSB rules are going to be a lot more production based in future than they are now (think Superstock spec engines with linmited electronics in a full WSBK chassis, similar to current BSB rules). That means that small production 'specials' like the EBR may find it even harder to enter until they have built the required number of bikes.

WSB has been bitten twice by manufacturers who promised to build sufficient bikes in time (Benelli and Petronas) so are very stringent about the letter of the rules these days. With Dorna in charge, and keen to put considerable distance between prototype GP racing and Superbikes, expect the series to be much more production based very soon.

Of course this may help teams that want to run V-Twin mototcycles such as Ducati and EBR, provided they can build enough to homologate the model. This could mean that EBR would have to use the 'base' RX model in future WSB racing rather than the limited edition RS.

By the way, I read recently on another site somewhere that EBR had sold 65 of the limted edition 100 RS models. It may be that the 'extra' 35 are not extra at all but the remainder of this initial 100 with new graphics?

I made the inquiry at Mid-Ohio; "Are the 35 part of the original 100?", the response was "No, these are 2013 models." meaning (to me) that a total of 135 bikes would be built to RS specs.

I think 65 "sold" means the other 35 are still sitting at dealerships....

This new 30 are probably just enough to say they had production in 2013, as October is 2014 fiscal year and anything released in October won't count as a 2013, and the leftover 2012's are umm..2012 models...just a guess.
