Okay,
So 2 days ago I was on the freeway during the afternoon rush, East Loop 820 in the D/FW metroplex, in the left lane to stay clear of merging traffic. Up comes that one sorry maggot driving like they just robbed a bank on my right, and for all I know, they did. Suspecting their ill intentions I lay on the horn a few times to reinforce my conspicuity. With complete disregard they cut me off and I had to lay it down going 65-70 mph to keep from being catapulted by a collision. Being my first actual wreck of that caliber, it all seemed very surreal as I was sliding and spinning and trying to stay outta the other lane to keep from being run over, and that second or two will stay with me. The old man directly behind me saw the whole thing and stopped on a dime. I immediately got up to get my bike to the shoulder as he and another fellow were running up to make sure I was alright. Of course the POS that cut me off did not stop, and I didn't get a plate #. Those guys helped to pick up the bike and take me down to the gas station where I called a ride after reassuring them I didn't need an ambulance. I gotta console myself with grim thoughts of karma & retribution for that bastard motorist 'cause judgement is coming to all of us.
I am very fortunate given the time of day, the speed of travel, and the general skill of most TX motorists, to be alive and not seriously injured. My jacket and helmet protected my upper body and head, but looking down I noticed my shoe was torn and full of blood. My regret is that any other day I'd have been wearing boots. Hell, I always wear boots... but I got a chunk of flesh missing from the side of my right foot from wearing lowtop running shoes. I know if your gonna be dumb you gotta be tough, and I'll remember that while limping with my cane & waiting for the flesh to grow back. I think the bike held up surprisingly well and it will run again, hadn't checked it out thoroughly. It's tempting to think of what I should & shouldn't have done, but with no broken bones and minimal flesh wounds, for now I'll count my blessings.}}

Damn, that's a complete bummer. But glad you were able to walk away mostly intact.

So, was there any actual contact between the perp's car and your bike? Anything physical like a paint scrape e.g. that could tie some evidence to identify the djurk?

Sorry to hear about your encounter with this cager. I'd say you fared remarkably well for laying it down at that speed. I hope that your wounds heal quickly and that you can get back on the bike soon.

really sorry to hear this too. my buddy just got rearended a few weeks ago cause some girl had to pay attention to what was going on in the car and not what was going on outside. sometimes it doesn't matter how much you are aware of your surrounding's, there are idiots everywhere. hope you have a speedy recovery and get back on the bike soon.

Thanks guys. I laid it down to avoid a collision and being catapulted, so I slid a pretty good ways. I haven't done a thorough check on the bike yet. I'm leaking some oil from the below. All in all, it held up. I'm gonna need mirrors, a wind screen, some blinkers, etc. I had hoped the flesh wound was the extent of my injuries but a few days of hobbling made it clear there's a little fracture there on the side of the ankle. This was just one of those situations where there was no where to go but down. I'm one of those rare cases of an American without health insurance, haha. Supposedly, the 3rd worst drivers in the nation in this metroplex, though I know all of us ditch and dodge road trash every day.
Thanks, Nevrenuf. I will definitely be needing some spare parts soon as I can get out and put it back to road worthy.

im glad for you that it wasn't worse.

i wasn't there

based on what you said im guessing you had a few seconds during which time you noticed and got 'that' feeling about the douche sack. in that situation i am thinking that instead of honking the horn perhaps a bit of a speed bleed would have been better. when my dad taught me to ride he taught me there is right and there is dead right. thankfully you didn't die....

not trying to stir up any sh*t,but i can't let a statement like i had to lay it down pass without comment.if for no other reason to let any newbie reading this post on a forum with a fairly experienced membership who know better,could be led to believe this a good idea.it seldom if ever is,rubber has a much higher drag coefficient than aluminum or steel.meaning braking will stop you quicker than (laying it down).i learned this when i told someone with much more time in the saddle than me,i laid it down told me oh,you mean you crashed!

R100rs, I'm with you. Truthnexile, I wasn't there, and I certainly don't want to pour salt on your wounds, but I share the concern that this line of thought must be actively opposed as irresponsible. The phrase "I had to lay 'er down" makes me cringe! Avoid a crash by crashing first? I'm glad you're not injured very badly. I hate it that your bike is crunched. More than that, I hope that after the anger is gone and you can revisit this incident with cold analysis, you will see that your decision was not the best one you could have made, and you'll share that when you tell the tale in the future.
