I wondered out loud on another thread how many complete tube frame Buells could be built from the spare parts inventory
that Buell maintains. I asked this in the wake of people questioning whether they should start hoarding XB parts for
the future (anticipating the demise of the XB line which I believe will continue on for several years)

Given that I know of one or two instances where RR body parts have materialized out of a big brown truck and landed on people's doorsteps I don't think the XB owners have anything to worry about.

eeeeee! i hope i did'nt imply that folks were'nt doing a good job! i probably should've support this discovery with more info.
a few months ago i ordered and received a new parts book for my m2, i got it from andy at appleton, in that parts book it shows that g0500,8 number off to the side, so, i figured if it was in the parts book why would'nt it be on hdnet. i'll check the book and see exactly what it says - supersede, alternate or otherwise and post my findings.
regardless, please know i think the world of all the fine hard-working folks at my favorite mc company : )

turns out it does'nt say what the number represents, it's to the right of the description in bold grey print. i suppose it could be a buell# translation? either way i went with that belt assuming it was one of the newer better made xb style jobbies (had some trouble with belts in the past). also, on that page alone there are 3 other (superseded?) #'s 3245y bolt aa0712.1cz, 5912y washer ba0714.2z, 34927-94y sprocket g0400.8a.

I suspect. . . haven't checked, but based on past experience, that the difference may by the markings on the belt.

Some of you will recall that years ago Buells came with a HD bar and shield on the belt. . . for a while they said Sportster and so forth.

All the belts mentioned in this thread are current and perfectly suitable parts with, perhaps, different markings.

turns out if you type in every number (from my previous post)on hdnet they all come up with the superceded # except the belt...

thank you for my xb12r. it is a pleasure to ride. the 1125r is the bike i was hoping you'ld make. here are two other wishes, a 1450-1500cc sportster based engined(same stroke, big bore) firebolt/lightning. then, a v-rod engined buell, my pick would be the ulysses. thank you again. my next bike will most likely be a ulysses.

There is an Australian component manufacturer who has made a supercharger kit for the V-rod which goes like stink.

How about it Erik?

How about a Sprintex blower kit for the XB series bikes?

A marriage made in heaven I think.

How about letting Harley dealers that once sold and serviced Buells then dropped the Buell line, order parts to fix Buells that are not on warranty.
The service manager said if I order the parts that they tell me that I need to fix the problem then bring them to them the'll put them on.
Seem they could do better than that now that so many Harley dealers are dropping the Buell line.
Just a thought

Why are all those Harley dealers dropping the Buell line? I have to drive over 2 hours in any direction just to see a new Buell! How does Buell expect to draw new customers if the bikes are not available to most people?

A bad dealer is worse than no dealer.

Few dealers (some did) are dropping Buell. . Buell dumped a bunch of dealers. They need to ditch 52 more and make some sweeping changes to support the good ones.

There is a lot of work to be done.

In the meantime, the inconvenience of the long drive is a better alternative than tolerating some of the folks who were dealers.

I go to Smith Bro's to get my service. The service manager has a Buell as does two mechanics. I'd just like them to have the ability to order the Buell parts. Seems like a no brainer to me, but I'm just someone spending money.

with all the consolidating going on (weak buell dealers dropping and stronger ones getting stronger) what is happening to all that good obsolete and hard to find stuff? if the dealer that's dropping the line is'nt on hd net are they just keeping the stuff for ever or are they sending some of those rare gems back to buell?

Most are either blowing them out, or selling off to the remaining local Buell dealers. I don't know if they can go back on an inventory return once they're obsoleted, but I could be wrong....

The paint on my 98 S1W developed a few bubbles this past summer and after having it covered for several months(been riding the FXR) it's developed an extreme case of holy S%$&T what the hell happened to my tank? It's bubbled and falling off like crazy. Someone told me this was a recall item from back in the day but I went through all my old files and never found a notice for this problem. So 1. what happened? 2. was it a recall item? 3. is it still covered by Buell?

I was wondering if you folks could tell me the length spec. on the front wheel bearing spacer. I'm refitting new bearings on a used wheel and I noticed that the existing spacer was deformed on an angle. I faced it off to true it up and only removed a few thousandths. It's length is now 4.220".
I checked and the distance between the bearing seats is 4.207" so I'm thinking I'm still good.
Thanks.

It was never a recall.

This topic is to post stuff that you'd like the factory to read. They don't participate here or answer questions. For answers to questions, please in the future post to the appropriate topic in the Knowledge Vault.

The bubbling paint wasn't a recall, but it was a goodwill warranty item. I'm not sure if that program is still in effect or not. The resolution was to provide a new tank with stick on plastic logo in place of the integral clear-coated logos.

Chucks1w; You have a bike that's ten years old. Do you really expect some sort of replacement?

I have absolutely NO affiliation with the Factory, and am not authorized to speak for Buell in any capacity whatsoever. I am just an Enthusiast who likes discussing Buells on the Internet.

Just a heads up.

A recall issue is not limited by time, mileage or number of owners. Recalls last for as long as the vehicle requiring one does.

There are very clear time limitations spelled out in the regulations.

There is a single sentence that must be include verbatim in the recall notification.

Records are required to be retained by the manufacturer for a period of 5 years except for recalls on tires in which case it is 3 years.

It's all there . . .

If I understand correctly, recalls are also by definition safety-related or function-related.

While the bubbling paint sucks (got it on my bike, ended up being able to purchase a new 'factory update' tank off ebay last summer), it affects neither function nor safety. Buell extended a goodwill program for this back in the day, but since I bought my S1W in 2006 and the paint bubbled in 2007....I was pretty much SOL.

I thought about getting it painted locally and still may now that I have a new, good one on the bike, but the unfortunate fact is Buell has stopped stocking the replacement tanks (again, this is what I understand and was told last summer - there may still be a few of them "out there somewhere", but the program is defunct as I understand it).

I do have a painter in MD who is reasonable and has a dead-on recipe for ice white pearl if it helps, and the new stick-on "3D" nameplates are still available new : )
