From the most recent issues, I think?
It seems that the bikes are making more appearances in TV,commercials, movies and non bike related magazines and other publications.
Maybe a little closer to the mainstream?
What do you think?

"Product Placement" is becoming big business in advertising. I was talking the other day to the owner of a small business that makes sidecars. Used to be that every once in a while a TV or film production would call and ask for a sidecar outfit for an upcoming production. Oftentimes they were well paid for loaning them a sidecar or they bought it outright.

Now, almost every day they get a production demanding payment to "place" their sidecar in an upcoming production. Being a small business, they say no.

Suffice to say, the brand of computer, car, motorcycle, etc. you see in a TV show today is not determined by who makes the most appropiate, etc.... It goes to the high bidder. I used to really appreciate the excellent taste in cars we saw in the classic TV and films like Mission Impossible, etc.. The original Italian Job used Minis because they fit the story line even though Fiat gave the film much more freebees than BMC did. That'd never happen today- the Brit gangsters would be driving Toyotas if Toyota was the high bidder.

Buellgrrrl - same thing has happened with music is movies, tv shows, etc.

I watched a documentary on 'Easy Rider', and they were talking about how if they wanted to use a song, they literally called up artist or band and asked, and generally were encouraged to do so because it meant more exposure for the artist. Now-a-days, they'd demand a few hundred thousand dollars to let you use it.

product placement isnt new, the opening sequence of Fight Club pokes at it, and that was 10 years ago
And the Truman show was jibbing it too, as long as there has been TV there has been product placement.

I guess the early days of television are what...up and coming? Although I wasn't around back then, I believe product placement was a large part of television in the 50's. Weren't most shows solely supported by one product?

I am familiar with Buell's product placement. Tell us, oh wise one, what freebies, I'd be happy if you'd just name ONE ACTUAL one, that Buell gave anyone.

Tell us how Buell structures product placement arrangements.

You are talking out your ass again.. . . you know NOTHING about it.

By the way . . . . I note Buell, my your "knowledgeable prediction" will be out of business in a mere 7 months. . . . and the "50% of Harley-Davidson dealers will be gone" is looking weak too.

Compare that to my 2006 "Buell will be one of the preeminent names in racing" and I
d put my track record against yours.

Court, first off I've been pretty bullish on Buell. That confidence has been reflected in their sales slightly increasing while the rest of the industry tanked. As for the Harley dealers, some have closed, thought not as quickly as domestic auto dealers. But IIRC Harley sales were down 37% last quarter, and many dealers can't sustain that sort of loss of volume vs. fixed costs forever.

Of course, HOG(NYSE)'s stupidity could do the company in- for example, moving to a new plant would be a disaster if they actually did it. Building a new plant would costs a mere hundred million or so, and good luck trying to unload a big empty building in York or KC in the middle of a recession.

And Court, do you expect me to believe that they're putting Buells in film and video because Buells are cute? Dream on... I do "earned media" for political campaigns and freebies are harder to find then ever...

You FEIGN speaking with authority. Confess that you have never seen nor have a clue as to what Buell actually does.

Have YOU . . . . EVER been involved with a Buell product placement?

It's a yes or no question.

You're falsely creating the illusion that you know something about it. I don't think you have a clue.

You have yet to back up one statement you have ever made with any professional qualifications.

I'd love to sit and chat but have a commencement speech to give at Columbia University in 4 hours.

Get off your lazy ass. . . . stop talking and actually do something or at the very least stop lying to these folks.

Buellgrowl, Do you have a M2? I thought you were riding a BMW. If you don't have the M2 anymore could you take it out of your profile? If you still have it, put a picture of it in there.

Hey, you coming to homecoming?

"I do "earned media" for political campaigns and freebies are harder to find then ever..."

Very few people want their product associated with a politician. It alienates half of their customers.

Is the person in the picture from GQ the same person who played "Spock " in the new star trek? Sure looks like him
